....wonders if there is more going on.

First we had to “flatten the curve”. Then we needed to wait for a vaccine. Now we need to wait for a vaccine against a new strain.

But new strains will always appear. There will be a new one come September by the time the next vaccine is out.

I can’t see a way out of this using current strategy but no one is discussing any other strategy.

At what point does it end? When our children have no future? When most service business are gone? When we are all vaccinated every three months?

At what point do we aim to reduce serious illness in the vulnerable and then get on with our lives? We have vaccines that do that.

This isn’t me saying that long covid isn’t a thing or that I’m not worried. But I gravely fear for other things at this point.

I’m no conspiracy theorist usually but it does feel like this is a new world order of control through the back door. There is no dissent. There can be no opposition nor protests

On threads like this I have found the best way not to feel the need to repeatedly slam my head in a wardrobe door in frustration with the "I'm not a conspiracy theorist but..." is to find @RedToothBrush posts and read those to calm down.

So true.

Some people are waited for zero Covid deaths to go outside and to 'feel safe'. Well never be safe from any virus or illness, we take risks everyday.

The irony is that once lockdown is over, people will start going out again and some will catch the flu and sadly die. Will anyone give a damn? No.

It isn't. Occam's Razor applies. We have a novel virus behaving as viruses normally behave (mutations etc), coupled with a shambolic government which is constantly wrong-footed (and that's putting it kindly).

Quite. I think it's clear that the UK government (and the vast majority of other countries) are incapable of organising a New World Order. I know sinister governmental plots may sound more reassuring than incompetence, but it's not reality.
Nerdygirl · 10/02/2021 08:07

I think the points being raised by the op are valid and rational . As an intelligent member of society it’s ok to question things , it’s ok to raise concerns about things that do t look right.

I am quite frankly amazed at no matter what the government does, no matter evidence that comes out that paints a different picture that people quite frankly accept everything the government throws at them . That scares me more than anything .

If the nhs can’t cope then remember that’s years of underfunding as well as huge wastage. Where has anyone challenged that? Not they haven’t, as seems like you can’t cHllenge the government .

Remember this is still not a high consequence infection disease. Why wouldn’t this be changed, as the consequence to life seems high from a restrictions perspective and also everyone is arguing it’s high from a life perspective

SilverGlitterBaubles · 10/02/2021 08:10

This government is largely reactionary (often delayed) to events and public opinion. There has been huge alarm about the continued unchecked travel into the country and the risks of new variants scuppering the vaccines rollout. Public opinion wanted the government to do something about it and now they have. They tried softly, softly and relying on people to do the right thing and not travel except for work and exceptional circumstances but people have made a national sport out of finding loopholes because they are more important than the rest of us. People didn't quarantine when they arrived because they knew no one would check. So now the big stick has come out, mainly as a deterrent I suspect because again will they actually have the manpower to check every entry and enforce these things Confused

It will be very interesting to revisit these kinds of threads in a year or so to see if the NWO/Great Reset/Totalitarian Takeover or whatever has happened.

dottiedodah · 10/02/2021 08:45

Well in Australia ,new arrivals are marched at gunpoint to their quarantine hotels.A fine seems quite mild in comparison doesnt it! Mass gatherings /protests are obviously at odds with Covid rules anyway . As I tell my DD there is a nasty virus ,and the govt want us to stay home and watch TV /Bake and so on until they can make it safe for us .Vaccination is our ticket out of this

I would be willing to bet my house on the answer to that. Grin

And they are all colluding in this conspiracy together - the UK with every other European country - so that they can...become like China?
GetOffYourHighHorse · 10/02/2021 08:59

'The mood on this site is constant swings and roundabouts. When the cases were massively rising late December people were scared and in the main calling for the government to lock down, blaming them for not acting sooner, worrying about how the nhs will cope. When cases start to decrease and people become less scared, the chat then turns to the government taking away our freedom, ruining the economy, ruining education. If lockdown eased now we’d all be back to calling for it again in about a month.'

This ^

Constant 'they should be stricter like china/Korea etc!' Then 'they're too strict it's a dictatorship!'.

Government have nothing to gain by dragging this out longer than needed. Last Autumn the targeted approaches were indeed intended to loosen some restrictions for some. It isn't easy for any of us. Those not coping maybe need to try a bit of yoga/meditation. All the rage can't be good for you.

Shehz21 · 10/02/2021 09:04

@Wafflewife

Ironically, stupid posts like this and the stupid responses they elicit and 'solidarity' they stoke are part of the reason this situation will go on and on.
And another one who thinks that people like OP and those supporting questioning WTF is actually happening of our civil rights is sTuPiD. Your only contribution to this thread is namecalling, that says more about you than the OP Hmm
DianaT1969 · 10/02/2021 09:07

Why are you questioning it now? Do you think January went well? No deaths and low transmission? Over a thousand deaths with Covid were reported yesterday. That's around 9 weeks after the injection programme started. The situation will improve in the next couple of months. Your timing is off.

I think covid provides an opportunity to accelerate the plans around technocracy. This opportunity comment has been made by many senior leaders . Do I think it’s a nwo? No but I think the fact all politicians use the same phrase, build, back, better shows there is a consensus
GetOffYourHighHorse · 10/02/2021 09:08

'Well in Australia ,new arrivals are marched at gunpoint to their quarantine hotels.A fine seems quite mild in comparison doesnt it! Mass gatherings /protests are obviously at odds with Covid rules anyway'

Ah you see some folk want us to be like Australia statistic wise, but at the same time don't want us to be like Australia rule wise 🙄

I think the massive fines and threat of prison are a good idea. If you're not illegally travelling from a red country, committing fraud on documentation and possibly importing mutants you've nothing to worry about.

Hyperbole, much?

Every person I know feels this way, yet on mumsnet it seems you’re not allowed to discuss it without being labelled.

OK. Well answer the question that none of the moaners can. What possible reason can they have for keeping this going longer than necessary? The damage to education, the economy, etc. Why would they do it unless absolutely necessary?! Hospitalisation and deaths only now reducing. Obviously they need to wait until it is a reliable and consistent trend or else you'd wang on they let the brakes off too soon.

I don’t think there is a ‘new world order’ but the rest of the points ARE valid.

I’m baffled at what is happening. People are trying to look for alternative explanations because it just doesn’t make sense. The average age of covid death is 85, yes there has been some younger cases but in a country where there are 65 million people that number does not justify the economic trashing this country is seeing and what will effect us for years to come.

Floridaflipflops · 10/02/2021 09:47

OnlyFoolsnMothers - agreed. Because no one gives a shit about the Amazon or Sainsbury’s delivery drivers!

Actually my sister escorted peacefully to her hotel., she was even allowed a 10 minute socially distance chat with her partner before boarding the coach. Hardly sounds like being "marched at gunpoint" does it?
