....wonders if there is more going on.

First we had to “flatten the curve”. Then we needed to wait for a vaccine. Now we need to wait for a vaccine against a new strain.

But new strains will always appear. There will be a new one come September by the time the next vaccine is out.

I can’t see a way out of this using current strategy but no one is discussing any other strategy.

At what point does it end? When our children have no future? When most service business are gone? When we are all vaccinated every three months?

At what point do we aim to reduce serious illness in the vulnerable and then get on with our lives? We have vaccines that do that.

This isn’t me saying that long covid isn’t a thing or that I’m not worried. But I gravely fear for other things at this point.

I’m no conspiracy theorist usually but it does feel like this is a new world order of control through the back door. There is no dissent. There can be no opposition nor protests

I don’t think there is an ulterior motive but I do think we have an appalling government who are relishing in their new found power (Matt Hancock especially) you can just see the glee on his face when he realises what control he has.

This says more about you than about Matt Hancock.

Layladylay234 · 09/02/2021 21:36

I said it from the start, whether you're a lockdown fanatic,a Covid denier or someone just in the middle,no one can deny the restrictions most of the Western world has been put under make a fascinating social experiment for those interested in the conquer and divide strategy and other ideas

MaxNormal · 09/02/2021 21:37

Get a hobby

Doing what exactly? Everything is shut or disallowed.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 09/02/2021 21:38

Yes - 10 years imprisonments has definitely been a huge trigger for me. I simply cannot believe this is happening in the UK. Ten years in prison for travel.

Whoever said MN is a protest is a joke. This is a discussion forum. If I travel to my local government seat I will be charged! I can’t meet anyone to even do that.

We are of course being softened for longer lasting restrictions even if younger children go back to school. Concerts and large weddings - when? In a decade?

No I don’t want the health service to lose control but once older people are vaccinated against serious illness - why do we carry on with restrictions?

I’m not calm - I won’t calm the fuck down. I believe this is MASSIVE and it’s not being discussed properly. The only opposition is from backbench Tory MPs.

Am I the crazy one?

The idea that other European countries are suddenly opening up widely while we are all being repressed for Hancock's fun is not true. A nightly curfew is currently in force in metropolitan France, for example. Germany is still under restrictions etc. Italy may be opening its ski resorts, but it has banned UK residents until at least 5 March

It’s true and they’ve all done better than the U.K. in fact I’ve seen posts from my European friends and family from other parts rip them U.K. to shreds and as for the different variants come on!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 09/02/2021 21:40

Get a hobby? What, to distract me from my thoughts that something dreadful is happening under my nose? Should I embroider in between home schooling, work, study, phoning depressed elderly relatives, counselling my older kids who are depressed and trying to gee up my DH who has lost his livlihood? You think I need a hobby?!

OP posts:
Cornettoninja · 09/02/2021 21:45

I’m so tired of the impatience and people brainwashing themselves willingly.

Fine, let’s all revolt and sit back and wait and see what happens then.

What’s your plan? What are trying to incite people to do exactly?

pinkearedcow · 09/02/2021 21:45

Northpole23 what's true, that other countries are opening up a lot more widely than us? They may have differing policies, but they are still restricted. Germany is staying shutdown until March now according to reports.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 09/02/2021 21:46

'I simply cannot believe this is happening in the UK. Ten years in prison for travel.'

Well its not 10 years for travel is it. Its 10 years for refusing to test and quarantine. Behaviour which could continue to import variants leading us to being stuck with restrictions, which ironically is what your moaning about.

Katie517 · 09/02/2021 21:47

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow I am totally in agreement with you OP but sadly you are going to get a lot of name calling and vile posts from the ones on mumsnet who are obsessed with “for the greater good” and “let’s stay in until it’s safe” hopefully a lot will change their tune once furlough ends.

Its easy to go along with the narrative when you are being paid 80% to sit in your nice house with your family and you had a pretty empty antisocial life to begin with which seems to be a majority of mumsnetters. Some of us value living rather than existing and our basic human rights!

IdblowJonSnow · 09/02/2021 21:47

What a lot of bollocks. Schools looking likely to return at some point next month. They are simply trying to stop people from dying and the NHS from being overwhelmed.
Why on earth do you think they'd want us cooped up otherwise?

CoolShoeshine · 09/02/2021 21:47

The mood on this site is constant swings and roundabouts. When the cases were massively rising late December people were scared and in the main calling for the government to lock down, blaming them for not acting sooner, worrying about how the nhs will cope. When cases start to decrease and people become less scared, the chat then turns to the government taking away our freedom, ruining the economy, ruining education. If lockdown eased now we’d all be back to calling for it again in about a month.

Spiratedaway · 09/02/2021 21:48

@Randominternetbitch

Well, considering protesting is also now illegal, it’s going to take nothing short of mass civil unrest or civil war to get our freedoms back. We’ve sleep walked into a draconian authoritarian regime under the guise of keeping us safe, and it seems most people are only toohappy to keep spreading their cheeks and begging for more.
I agree I was quite worried after I said to my bf I am used to living like this now !
bumblejee · 09/02/2021 21:48

What I would love to know is what you conspiracy theorists think the Government gain from these restrictions? If as you all state it is trashing the economy, what would be their motive?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 09/02/2021 21:49

cornetto what makes you think I have a plan?

I’m really scared as to the lack of any debate as to what we are doing. Imprisoning people for a decade for leaving their house? You can murder and rape and get less than that.

There is no opposition. There is no challenge. And if you say you disagree you are sneered at or decried as mad

So I must be mad as I’m horrified.

OP posts:
Cornettoninja · 09/02/2021 21:49

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow and @Katie517 so what exactly are you doing about it? Or is winding up people on the internet as much as you’re prepared to exert on it?

Cornettoninja · 09/02/2021 21:50

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow why wouldn’t you have a plan or a focus if you feel that strongly? Wailing into the ether doesn’t do much good does it?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 09/02/2021 21:53

But the NHS is no longer overwhelmed. In scotland it never has been - not even close, even in January. Even now we are vaccinating there is talk of long term restrictions.

I don’t know why they want us cooped up. A lot of people are set to make a lot of money if we need to vaccinate millions of people every to years

Tell me why we aren’t checking people’s vitamin d status for example and supplementing properly? The studies are there. Even the Chinese are looking at IV vitamin c. Quercetin. This isn’t woo. There are studies done on these both in terms of prevention and cure.

But no - will no wait until September for the next vaccine and at that point there will be more variants - whether or not we jail people for a decade

OP posts:
Wildswim · 09/02/2021 21:53

Am I the crazy one?

No @Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow

I'm profoundly disturbed by all of this.

whatswithtodaytoday · 09/02/2021 21:55

What exactly do you think the Government stand to gain from the restrictions?

TinaYouFatLard · 09/02/2021 21:57

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow I hear you.

The introduction of a 10 year prison sentence has really stopped me in my tracks today. WTAF. You get less for carrying a deadly weapon (among many other crimes).

Whatever the lockdown fanatics say, you simply cannot deny that the goalposts have shifted constantly. The recent briefing shifted focus from vaccinating the over 70s to needing to vaccinate the over 50s. Each time, Whitty wheels out whatever graph suits the agenda.

I’m genuinely afraid today.

Haffiana · 09/02/2021 21:58

@bumblejee

What I would love to know is what you conspiracy theorists think the Government gain from these restrictions? If as you all state it is trashing the economy, what would be their motive?
Now, now, don't you go bringing logic into it!

They are doing it 'cos they ENJOY it and they got POWER and they have got PLOTS to turn us into SHEEP and make us AGREE BLINDLY to anything they say and to STOP us from seeing what they are UP to!

In short they are doing it either because they are TODDLERS or because they are LIZARD MEN. We will be PUT IN PRISON if we dare say anything against them.

And ALL other countries are walking around free eating ice-cream and SKIING.

bumblejee · 09/02/2021 22:00

But if you stick to the quarantine rules you have no fear of a prison sentence, so easy solution - follow the law!

Katie517 · 09/02/2021 22:02

@Cornettoninja I am not trying to wind any one up I am simply expressing an opinion that is different to yours.

And in terms of what I am doing there is very little we can do however I am writing to my local MP when things concern me and voicing my opinion where I feel it necessary. Our opinion is reflective of a lot of people in real life. I value my freedom, freedom for my family, the ability to live a full and happy life, the ability for my FIL’s business which he has put a lifetime of work into to be able to operate and make money.

A world where laws are brought in at the drop of a hat without debate that criminalises basic human behavior such as visiting a loved one is not something I ever thought would happen in the UK and it worries me where we are heading.
