@pinkearedcow

I generally think Drakeford has done a good job for the people of Wales *@DdraigGoch*. He's not afraid to be unpopular, unlike a certain person.
I'm not going to derail this thread on a political tangent, suffice it to say that when the Welsh Government announced their policies with trifling differences from the English ones (a week earlier or later, marginal differences in rules etc.) it only serves to increase confusion.

Closing Welsh pubs but simultaneously opening up non-essential travel across the border inevitably resulted in people from areas with hitherto low case rates packing onto trains to Chester/Shrewsbury/Hereford. Quelle surprise that cases rose quickly the closer for those places served by rail. The two week "firebreak lockdown" in the autumn was likewise a disaster which was immediately followed by a massive jump in cases.

Agreed mistakes have been made, but to be fair that has been true for governments across the globe! Very few have got things 100% right during this pandemic.

No it isn't, unless you have formed an extended household or are in a support bubble. It is very confusing! The rules will be looked at again in three weeks time.
pinkearedcow · 16/05/2021 12:26

At alert level 2 you must:

follow social distancing rules with people you don’t live with or who aren’t in your exclusive extended household

wear a face covering (unless you have a reasonable excuse not to wear a face covering) in all indoor public places

not meet with anyone in a private home other than those you live with or your exclusive extended household

meet no more than 5 other people indoors at a café, restaurant or other open premises (unless with your household of a larger number)

meet no more than 5 other people outdoors or in private gardens (unless with your household of a larger number)

work from home if you can

pinkearedcow · 16/05/2021 12:29

What is an extended household?

An extended household is an agreement between two households which allows them to meet with each other in their homes and certain other places. This creates a ‘bubble’ that enables people to meet one another in each others homes. This is similar to the support bubble arrangements that have been in place during lockdown, but now the arrangements apply to any two households.

Can I form an extended household?

Yes. Your household is able to join together with one other household to form an exclusive extended household. This means you can spend time with them in your home or in their home. This includes staying overnight in each other’s homes.

Please see guidance on gathering with other people to see the rules on who can be in an extended household, how to choose who to form one with and how it works for people with different types of living arrangements.

A third household can join an extended household in limited circumstances. The following households can join two other households to form an extended household:

a household with an adult living alone
a household with a single responsible adult*
a household where you are 16 or 17 living alone or with others of the same age, with no adult

For more information on extended households and what is meant by a single responsible adult, please see guidance on getheirng with other people.

Can I form a support bubble?

Support bubbles were allowed to help people who lived by themselves or households with a single responsible adult, or a child under one to meet indoors with one other household during alert level four lockdown.

If you were in a support bubble, you can still maintain that arrangement as an extended household. But you may also be able to join with another two households with have formed and extended household as long as your extended household meets the rules described above.

For more information on extended households, please see our guidance on gethering with other people.
Are there any limits on who I can form an extended household with?

There are no rules saying your extended household has to be within any set distance of your home. There are also no rules preventing extended households being formed with households outside Wales, including abroad , although if you form an extended household with someone outside Wales you should be aware of the rules in place in that other country and also any limitations and requirements on international travel.

Question . If I my OH and my neighbours, have all had two jabs weeks months ago ago, why are we still having to wave over the fence rather than having a cuppa in each others homes??

ArosGartref · 16/05/2021 13:27

There are complex ethical questions about restricting the rights of people based on the ability and willingness of people to receive medical treatment. Do you think that's a road we should go down @justasking111? Or do you mean the rules should stay in place but you and your neighbours should ignore them? More of an argument for the latter, I think.

Oh you think soft play is wonderful between unvaccinated little people but me keeping my elderly neighbours company all of us with two jabs is dubious. Jog on.....

I disagree completely, Imho the while of the U.K. should have the same rules , making it easier for us all to understand , with local lockdowns when and where necessary

I can’t wait to go and see my DS and DIL in london , I’m a bit tired of all the rural walks and scenery and want to see a city skyline

Sillysop92 · 16/05/2021 16:10

Thanks @pinkearedcow we can form an extended household and still visit then if what I have read is correct and then bring her back to our home on our return. She is alone so not bubbled with anyone else.

I am going to London at half term; sight seeing, visiting my sister and going to shops we dont have here. Booked a hotel, which we stayed in last summer so know it has safe practices etc. Cant wait!

Lupinhere37 · 16/05/2021 16:29

@Sillysop92 Identical position to you; have bubbled with DF who is alone. Multiple border crossings throughout the whole pandemic, without incident. This is permissible, so enjoySmile

Sillysop92 · 16/05/2021 18:06

@Lupinhere37 thank you it’s been months since we saw her, can’t wait for lots of cwtches!

ArosGartref · 16/05/2021 20:30

I think we're talking at cross purposes @justasking111. I was using your example to prompt a discussion about the wider implications of legislating based on vaccination. No offense meant or taken.

I hope someone here may shine some light...we're in Cardiff and my daughter's self-isolation from school after a positive case in her class has just increased from 10 to 14 days with no explanation. Gov.wales shows that 10 days is the normal isolation period. Has anyone heard anything about a change of policy??

I've not seen anything. I'm not sure the school can do that? I assume they can refuse to have her back for 14 days if they insist, but legally I doubt they can tell her to self-isolate for longer than the government say to?
Adesignforstrife · 25/05/2021 11:37

They say it is on the advice of test, trace and protect. I'd be happier if I could see it written down somewhere other than just from the school to be honest.

It was 10 days three weeks ago still - DD2 was just getting back her entire year was off for 10 days and I've heard nothing since about a change in policy .

gov.wales/self-isolation - this still talks of 10 days.

Lupinhere37 · 25/05/2021 18:47

@Adesignforstrife I would contact Public Health in the morning, at your local council. I have experienced some contrary and quite bewildering direction from school at several points during the pandemic.
My latest encounter with isolation criteria at my DD’s school would have actually been funny, if the subject matter had not been so serious.
Every time I query the advice, the school blame Public Health Wales and say they take all direction from them. Get it from the horse’s mouth, would be my advice.

Adesignforstrife · 25/05/2021 20:16

Thanks yes I think I will try this in the morning.
