Will the mask refuses ever be forgiven, do you think?

I don’t think people will forget who they were. I’ve seen a few shunned in school, and on the street, and what really stood out to me, is changing their minds and putting a mask on didn’t actually change the response they were getting from their community. The feeling was too little too late, I think

@Chimboo yep. Well said!

@SatishTheCat

Look I’m not going to argue with ignorance.

People who cannot wear a mask support the new arrangements. They see the shop as now being MORE accessible to them because it makes them feel safer to shop there.

I'm exempt and I don't support businesses ignoring government guidelines and 'othering' those who cannot wear a mask. Disabled people and those with health conditions should not be made to wait outside on the pavement. And there is absolutely no government advice, rule or law which demands this.

It does not make shopping more accessible, given that mask exempt people are allowed into shops already and businesses should not be denying access. Forcing them to stay outside makes it less accessible, by virtue of the fact they are being denied admittance.

Not sure what's 'ignorant' about pointing that out buy heyho!

*but

SatishTheCat · 03/02/2021 12:06

It is more important for disabled people to be able to access food in a safe way than for non-mask wearers to be able to browse in a shop. Most disabled people agree because everyone needs to eat and most care about limiting their exposure to COVID risk.

SatishTheCat · 03/02/2021 12:07

Shops can safely ignore government guidelines if they are at odds with health and safety law. They are guidelines.

TheChip · 03/02/2021 12:08

So mask wearers are shopping for food, but non maskers are just wanting to browse the aisles for fun?

Disabled people emphatically do not agree that being forced to wait outside on the pavement so that those able to wear masks can enter shops is acceptable. In fact, we think it's undignified, discriminatory and cruel.

I'll say it again: Mask exemptions exist so that those who cannot can shop/enter public spaces without a mask and without risk of being fined for doing so. That's the adjustment, in law. Anything else - including being barred from entering businesses by those who own them - is not an adjustment, it's a discriminatory action by that business owner.

Don't be a pillock OP. That said, I seem to remember Rowena was the one furious at 'entitled mothers' using nursery, so much so her daughter's entire shift quit over it the other day so...🤔😬🤦‍♀️

I'm not sure you can speak for every person with disabilities. Many are vulnerable and I know some are not shopping because so many people aren't wearing masks that they don't feel safe to. Many people with disabilities are wearing masks and many people who aren't exempt are using the exemption to make a point or avoid it.

It's a balance.

nitsandwormsdodger · 03/02/2021 14:58

How can you tell someone is being shunned??? We are all social distancing especially at school gates where we are working on the front line

Sensible not to chat to someone not wearing a mask surely ?

My partner CANT wear a mask everyone is far too kind polite and too dam busy to even notice

Teandsympathy · 03/02/2021 16:49

I’m sure this is all in your head OP.

hamstersarse · 03/02/2021 16:52

I'm more likely to remember the Mask Policers

ChocOrange1 · 03/02/2021 17:03

I'd be more worried about the 'shunners' myself. They sound petty and unpleasant.
This. I would be very happy to be shunned by these people.

PandemicAtTheDisco · 03/02/2021 18:47

The vigilantes also irritate me just as much.

SpnBaby1967 · 03/02/2021 19:04

Nah, I'll shun the lockdown lovers and those who gleefully reported their neighbours for daring to see gasp their own family!!!

PandemicAtTheDisco · 03/02/2021 19:18

and potentially infect them....

and who are these lockdown lovers? There are very few people that are enjoying the lockdown.

Brighterthansunflowers · 03/02/2021 19:21

I wouldn’t shun random people, but if I had a friend or family member who was a covid denier/mask refuser (without medical exemption) it would affect my opinion of them.

Ragwort · 03/02/2021 19:24

Agree ^^ can't stand the Covid Police ... I don't care who does or doesn't wear a mask - I do, most of the time in shops etc but if I am out and about volunteering (in the fresh air) then I don't ... or if I am having a walk etc - but the number of people that leap out of the way ... outside ... is ridiculous Hmm.

2020canfuckitself · 03/02/2021 19:24

I'm exempt, and not for a lung condition. I really don't care if people shun me over a mask.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/02/2021 19:31

but the number of people that leap out of the way ... outside ... is ridiculous

I think that's harsh. They aren't doing anything to you, just enforcing their own boundaries on themselves. My mum has been extremely anxious and does rigidly follow the 2 metre rule. It doesn't affect you.
