Will the mask refuses ever be forgiven, do you think?

I don’t think people will forget who they were. I’ve seen a few shunned in school, and on the street, and what really stood out to me, is changing their minds and putting a mask on didn’t actually change the response they were getting from their community. The feeling was too little too late, I think

Are you trying to speak this into existence?

Basically, yes. It is not a thing, but the OP would like it to be.

Will the ableist mask exemption haters ever be forgiven.

wanderings · 02/02/2021 19:56

You wait until criminals start hiding behind masks: I'm surprised this hasn't happened more: perhaps it is, but the government are hushing it up, they don't want the plebs thinking "masks are bad". No wonder Saint Boris and his merry men can't tell who is breaking lockdown and who isn't: they're all hiding their faces.

And yes, @chocolateorangeinhaler, conclusive proof that muzzles (no apologies) are effective is conspicuous by its absence. Didn't Whitty or somebody say early on "they are not effective at containing the virus"... then hey presto, they became the defining symbol of the government's obedience school. They may even be counter-productive, but of course the government will not admit that.

I've got my bingo card ready for the ex-PM Saint Boris writing some rubbish in a couple of years' time that he calls journalism saying "take off the face nappies; CCTV is useless if you wear them; by continuing to wear them, you are making it harder to catch criminals; besides, plastic waste is evil".

They are the ones that need shunning. Have seen some downright awful comments about exemptions, both on MN and social media in general.
MercyBooth · 02/02/2021 20:03

Agreed @XenoBitch

EatingAllTheCookies · 02/02/2021 20:05

No how ridiculous.

redsquirrelfan · 02/02/2021 20:06

@ktp100

I wouldn't maintain a friendship with anyone who refused to wear a mask just because they don't want to wear one. To me, that just equates to being a self-centred twunt and well, no thanks (obvs not if can't wear one for medical/disability reasons).
Would you really still care in a few years? If I decided I wasn't going to be friends with everyone I disagreed with I would have no friends.

I think that is a very British viewpoint to take (something to take to the "what things do you not understand about other countries" thread - ie you can't have a disagreement with someone - you can only be friends with someone if you agree with them about everything.

Do you live in Royston Vasey?

Sunnydays999 · 02/02/2021 20:28

I don’t think anyone will remember or care

faerin · 03/02/2021 00:03

Have you considered taking up a new hobby?

SatishTheCat · 03/02/2021 00:19

Yes anti maskers are being shunned and called out for their thoughtlessness and self entitled behavior. Rightly so. This furious woman faced pretty much universal condemnation on social media...

I’ve seen a few shunned in school, and on the street how does your village practice their shunning? Could be a new competitive sport?
My friend Dwight wasshunnedby his family from the age of four until his sixth birthday, for forgetting to save the excess oil from a can oftuna.

BonnieDundee · 03/02/2021 00:38

Satish nowhere in that link does it state that woman is an anti masker. She says she is exempt

NothingIsWrong · 03/02/2021 00:44

The only people I will be shunning are the ones who told me that I was mentally weak for not coping and I would have been having suicidal thoughts anyway, nothing to do with lockdown. And anyone who said that you weren't allowed out more than once a day for an hour.

SatishTheCat · 03/02/2021 00:48

She made it clear on social media that she is an anti masker, but I won’t link to her posts as whilst I think she’s foolish, she’s facing enough hatred without extra people from this site piling on.
MercyBooth · 03/02/2021 00:52

Wow Just had a look at Devon Lives fb page. Be aware before you decide to go on holiday there it seems to be packed full of ignorant ableists, their ableism might end up costing them a lot of money one day.

BonnieDundee · 03/02/2021 00:53

Oh I see. I dont have access to her SM so I didnt know that. I agree that some non mask wearers are not genuinely exempt but i feel I need to defend those who genuinely cant wear them

MercyBooth · 03/02/2021 00:55

YY Bonnie It was the comments underneath i was like WTF at. Im currently watching Its A Sin and there are definate parallels between the way the gay community were treated then and the way people who cant wear masks are treated now.

Sweettea1 · 03/02/2021 01:00

Shunned for not wearing a mask? What country are you in? I wouldn't think twice about if they are wearing one or not never mind shutting them out completely. Do they need to a sign on their back explaining why they aren't wearing one aswell.

Quaagars · 03/02/2021 01:01

WTF's a mask refuser?
How on earth would you know who wasn't wearing one because they thought it was all Tin Hat, or those who genuinely couldn't wear one because they were exempt due to medical conditions?
Are we supposed to just huff and puff and never forgive anyone we might see without a mask?
What good would that do Confused
Talk about winding yourself up un-necessarily.
How about just doing you.

Your username and this comment just took this thread from depressing to joyous.

Slap them with silence!

It’s not ableism, that’s ridiculous. The shop is happy to shop for people and bring it to the door, or deliver the shopping of anyone who can’t wear a mask. The shop has received overwhelming public support for keeping their staff and other shoppers safe.
DdraigGoch · 03/02/2021 01:26

@sashagabadon

Eh? I have no idea who is a “ mask refuser” Confused
Presumably the ones yelling "I will not be muzzled".
