Get ready everyone! Get ready for your worlds to shake!

My DP is a keyworker, I'm not, but our kids are in school because we were offered places.

@Abraxan

"Many non KW people are having to make sensitive and/or important calls from home. Many are also looking after children. This isn't unique to KWs."

Yes but they are not key workers are they?! Don't you see that providing mental health support to vulnerable people over the phone who are potentially suicidal cannot be done with young children in ear shot?

And if your school is up to 50% full on quiet days I would suggest the school didn't do a very good job of assessing and allocating key worker places to those who need them. My kids school called and assessed all key workers individually and some were not given places. So maybe you need to take it up with the school!

My school followed the guidelines to the letter. Schools weren't actually supposed to add their own rules on top,of the governments, all we could do was make a suggestion that people only use the Kw place if they really needed to. The LEA were very clear about that. I do know some other schools decided to put in extra rules - but they weren't actually supposed to really.

We were always going to have a lot - we are near to 3 large teaching hospitals, 2 other hospitals - and that's before you add in other Kw and vulnerable children.

It is what it is. But if the government want to restrict which kW should use places then they should put that in their guidelines.

chorusline79 · 02/02/2021 18:13

@Abraxan - the government are relying on schools ( and most of all, parents) to interpret those guidelines responsibly. The govt can't possibly specify who should get a place - can you imagine the document they would have to create if they had to specify who should get a place and under which circumstances?!
It sounds like there is a need in your area and therefore a lot of the school places will be being legitimately used in your school by keyworkers then.
