How can we show our dissent?

Feeling so desperate after the announcement today that essentially has us all in this level of lockdown for another 6 weeks weeks at least.

Rates of infection on a steady decline and already so many vaccinated. I wholly disagree with it continuing at the is level. What can I do about it?

To confirm, I will not be starting another thread! I meant I would have my moan get on with it... as we all have for the last 9 months.

Thank you to those that offered sensible suggestions, and those that offered not so sensible suggestions that made me smile. Thank you for the empathy that some showed, and for making me feel less alone.

@Fizzybottle

Absolutely nothing. Next.....
I'm struggling with this lockdown and finding it way harder than the other and do really want tiers ASAP.

But your response did make me laugh - and I have no idea why 🤣

Fizzybottle · 27/01/2021 15:30

@itsgettingweird well the truth will either make you laugh or cry. Thankfully it made you laugh!

You could train for 7 plus years after your A levels, work your way up the line into a place of authority with years of medical experience, spend hours in meetings trying to work out how to give people some form of freedom whilst trying to keep their health intact and the NHS from collapsing. Then you can replace Chris Whitty etc at the stand and explain to uncomprehending fools who think everything revolves around them, why the restrictions are in place.

Then you could come on here and read how, just because things you recommended are beginning to work, people who know absolutely nothing about how viruses work, think things should start to re-open. Because we tried that in June-September with eat out to help out, kids going into schools when the R-rate fell and people started bleating in the same way, spend Christmas with your granny because (boo hoo) people hadn't seen their family for months and look where that got us.

Alternatively, you can just knuckle down for a bit longer and stop whingeing.

Because, unlike my aunt, who went into hospital for a broken hip and is now battling Covid or my friend who is making funeral arrangements for her mum as we speak or the woman featured on TV today, who went into hospital aged 37 with no underlying conditions, eight months pregnant unable to breathe and died, you have the privilege of being healthy enough to moan about it. I bet that young mum would have loved the opportunity to lockdown - just safe in the knowledge that she was still alive.

georgarina · 27/01/2021 15:37

Rates are declining but they will go back up if we lift the lockdown. Would you rather stay in lockdown for six more weeks and get it under control or lift it, wait for the transmissions rates to rise again, and then be back in an endless cycle of lockdowns?

It would be like saying, I'm halfway into my course of antibiotics and starting to feel better, so I won't take the rest of the pack.

PhilCornwall1 · 27/01/2021 15:43

That's no way to talk about Boris Johnson!!

Yarboosucks · 27/01/2021 15:43

Make a model of the virus and abuse it in anyway that you see fit. Do this at home. It is the virus that is fucking up our lives. Want to fuck up the virus? Follow the rules. Do that and if you are lucky, you and your loved ones may live to tell the tale.

SpilltheTea · 27/01/2021 15:44

It's far better to continue for 6 weeks, instead of opening everything up and taking us back to square 1 AGAIN. It's not the end of the world.

Remember how low the numbers were in the summer? How has that turned out?

MRex · 27/01/2021 15:49

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady
You can take a breath, have a quiet word, and slowly come to the realisation that this is not all about you

Marvellous advice. This.

Chloemol · 27/01/2021 15:51

Nothing

Look at the damn figures, yes they are declining but they are still far higher than the figures seen last year at its first peak, and we have mutations to deal with

Lots think we opened to fast and to early last time

So let’s learn from what we did wrong last time shall we and quit moaning and whinging

Schmoozer · 27/01/2021 15:55

Doh !!!!

Xenia · 27/01/2021 15:57

Get 200,000 mothers to march on downing st and leave their 200,000 children there for BJ to look after.

The best suggestion so far!

Some pretty big assumptions made about my circumstances and my opinions. They are incorrect.

Thankfully we don’t all have to agree.

What about those who are struggling mentally and financially? It’s not just OP. The government keeps saying “just another three weeks,” but it’s never just that. A year later and here we are.

The below article states depression is on the rise, and this only includes those who reported it. Many suffer in silence because they are shut down.

@PinkNails1 “just another three weeks,” exactly this.

1forAll74 · 27/01/2021 16:10

Just try and be sensible, logical, and realistic ,and try and understand that a killer virus, cannot be obliterated by magic, just because you are angry and fed up with all the rules.

KeyboardWorriers · 27/01/2021 16:11

You could volunteer to help with the vaccinations maybe, so things can improve faster?

Peanutquavers123 · 27/01/2021 16:11

@Downtown36 God forbid you don’t conform with the mass-think on MN - don’t you know you’ve killed 76 grannies simply through starting this thread alone?!

It’s miserable, it’s shit, and sadly there’s fuck all anyone can do about it. :/
