How can we show our dissent?

Feeling so desperate after the announcement today that essentially has us all in this level of lockdown for another 6 weeks weeks at least.

Rates of infection on a steady decline and already so many vaccinated. I wholly disagree with it continuing at the is level. What can I do about it?
@PinkNails1 ah but depression and suicide doesn’t matter anymore now “be kind” is no longer trendy - unless it’s covid nobody wants to know. :(
I agree, unfortunately Sad those who live alone and have job insecurity... they should pretend to smile and lock themselves away so people on MN don’t call them granny killers.

itsgettingweird · 27/01/2021 16:17

@Xenia

Get 200,000 mothers to march on downing st and leave their 200,000 children there for BJ to look after.
Boris could probably organise that personally if his reputation is a thing to go on WinkGrin

There are elections in May for most of the country at various levels. Show your views at the ballot box and vote for someone other than the Tories.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 27/01/2021 16:19

It not just about cases. We need to get hospital capacity under control.
DH is ECV and he hasn't even been called for his 1st vaccine yet so it is going to take time for the ECC group to get any protection. After all they are often working age and are more likely to require a hospital bed.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 27/01/2021 16:19

ECV

Go and post on the riots in Europe threads. They're gagging to get them going in the U.K. too.

By staying at home and following the rules until it's over

MynephewR · 27/01/2021 16:29

I agree OP. But as as already been mentioned, there's not much we can do. I'm trying to stay positive, the case figures are looking better every day and soon the other figures will follow.

FWIW I don't think we should end all restrictions tomorrow but I think it's disgusting that it's illegal for us to hug our parents or for children to play with each other. Some restrictions I agree with but I will never agree with that. That should be lifted today and it wouldn't be a minute too soon.

islockdownoveryet · 27/01/2021 16:33

What can you do ?
You can stop spending so much time waiting for BJ announcement. I mean what do you expect him to say we are Covid free back to normal folks . No so stop putting yourself through it .
All we can do is stay home really , keep busy etc.
By March things will be better there is light at the end of the tunnel .
You have every right to be fed up and every right to want this to end but stay positive. It’s not forever and every day things are improving.
Stay away from the doom and gloom that things are getting worse as they are not it’s just going to take time that’s all .

PhilCornwall1 · 27/01/2021 16:34

FWIW I don't think we should end all restrictions tomorrow but I think it's disgusting that it's illegal for us to hug our parents or for children to play with each other.

You are right about this. Making it illegal is disgusting and it shouldn't be happening.

daisyjgrey · 27/01/2021 16:35

I wholly disagree with it continuing at the is level.

I'm shocked they didn't consult you personally to be honest.

You're screaming into a void, which is fine considering the circumstances but don't expect anything to change. You've just got to get on with it. Everybody is allowed to have down days and days where they've had enough though, thats to be expected.

TorringtonDean · 27/01/2021 16:52

@MynephewR clearly you don’t understand how the virus is spread. The ban on hugging is for a reason.

I think it is just dawning on a few people that the pandemic is worse than we realised. Probably it’s going to be a lot worse by the end. Why else would a Tory PM like Boris take measures which harm the economy? There really was no choice.

Yet 100,000 excess deaths later there will still be the people saying those of us who follow the rules are being “hysterical”. We have all be so lucky to live in a relatively peaceful world with the miracle of antibiotics and modern medicine. We have forgotten that sometimes there are natural disasters and we have to make sacrifices.

Flyonawalk · 27/01/2021 16:59

@Downtown36 I am sorry you have had so little sympathy on this thread. I hear you and I find it depressing that there is so little room for debate. Few would dispute that covid is serious for many people, but surely we should be discussing just how much is acceptable to take from those sections of society known to be at little risk.

OP I think there are several things you can do to show dissent. Keep writing to your MP asking for details of the way out of lockdown, and how children, students and business owners will be supported afterwards. You could support LockdownSceptics, who gather news articles which question alarmist reports. You could report coronavirus adverts which you find unhelpful to Advertising Standards. You could follow HART (Health Advisory & Recovery Team), a group of scientists, doctors and spokespeople with different views from the SAGE committee.

These are tough times. It is important in a civilised society to show peaceful and thoughtful dissent. Let’s keep doing it Flowers

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 27/01/2021 17:02

You could volunteer to come to work with my colleagues and I?
I think that would swiftly stop the woe is me and I the thinking you know better attitude.

The numbers are on the decline in terms of infections, but they're still in the thousands and thousands!

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 27/01/2021 17:10

@Countarthursgroupie and there are still people with your attitude. I can assure you many people dying OF it.
And what's with the "vaccine" dig.

Honestly go and watch some more YouTube videos and listen to the Facebook medics. Pathetic. Really fucking pathetic.

CountessFrog · 27/01/2021 17:12

You are entitled to hold this opinion. People do forget that.

Thanks for deleting that post @MNHQ x

tinselearedcow · 27/01/2021 17:20

That sounds snarky- I meant it genuinely!

Runmybathforme · 27/01/2021 17:27

I’ve just got home from a twelve hour shift on a covid ward. A 35 yr old man died today, take a good look at yourself. I have no words.

Downtown36 · 27/01/2021 17:29

I will forever be grateful to everyone that has contributed to the collective effort.

It’s not either / or - I don’t have to fully accept lockdown or fully reject it. There is a lot in between those two extremes.
