How can we show our dissent?

Feeling so desperate after the announcement today that essentially has us all in this level of lockdown for another 6 weeks weeks at least.

Rates of infection on a steady decline and already so many vaccinated. I wholly disagree with it continuing at the is level. What can I do about it?

OP posts:
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 27/01/2021 15:07

Show your dissent grumbling on mumsnet then by queuing up nicely when it is your turn to get vaccination.

Also making sure all your elderly relatives and neighbours get their jabs too.

Waspnest · 27/01/2021 15:08

Well that was sorted pretty quickly. Now for world peace....

SaskiaRembrandt · 27/01/2021 15:08

Chain yourself to the nearest set of railings, and wave a placard which says 'down with this sort of thing'?

Fizzybottle · 27/01/2021 15:09

You've just started a thread moaning. So you're going to start another one? Ok then?

SunsetBeetch · 27/01/2021 15:12

@SophieB100

You could start a thread on mumsnet and have a moan about how awful it all is, then just get on with it like the rest of us.
Seems like the best option tbh.

OP, you WILL get through this, you really will.

Careful now!

Fizzybottle Sorry I thought you meant I had Blush

AlexaShutUp · 27/01/2021 15:13

You can take a breath, have a quiet word, and slowly come to the realisation that this is not all about you

This.

You might not agree that we need this level of lockdown, but the experts don't support your view. What's the alternative that you are proposing?

You don't have to like the current restrictions. It's shit living through a pandemic. That doesn't mean that the restrictions aren't necessary.

No, OP! She said she would take the option given of starting a thread moaning... But I thought this one was that thread so I'm unsure why she's starting another

Read the New Scientist article about Covid mutations. If you think you have a way of preventing worse mutations which are resistant to the vaccine whilst allowing greater freedoms, let SAGE know.

Do you think anyone will ever make an opera out of the verbatim posts on MN. It just goes round and round, with about 2 points to make and about 3 responses, empathy, fuck you and shrug. The sarkiness does make me laugh though.

That would be brilliant

However if there was going to be a MN opera topic I think it should be the Elderly Korean Lady !

TheVolturi · 27/01/2021 15:17

It's because of the restrictions that the numbers are declining op, and it needs to get to a safe level before things can be relaxed. Better to keep on as we are for a while longer and then there may be hope for some normality for the rest of the year.

DianaT1969 · 27/01/2021 15:17

You could send a sympathy card to the 1,000 families who will lose a loved one tomorrow. You have time on your hands and it would be a nice gesture.

PhilCornwall1 · 27/01/2021 15:17

A riot OP, you could start a riot!!!

Make it a virtual one though, it's just a little parky outside for that kind of behaviour at the moment!!

Spudina · 27/01/2021 15:19

YABVVU. If you could see inside if of our ITU you would not be talking like this. We have 500 patients with COVID, 50 in intensive care. We lose 70 patients a week. These are not old people on ventilators, they are in their 40s 50s and very early sixties. ITU Drs refused to take a lady in her early sixties of mine this week as she is not expected to survive and we can only give a bed to people with a better prognosis. The usual one to one ratio in ITU is now one to five or six. And to be clear, the ramifications of all of this are much wider. Patients needing urgent surgery for neurological emergencies are waiting 12 hours because the anaesthetists are all in ITU. We are having to decide who goes to theatre first, the emergency neuro patient or the lady needing emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. If you should have the misfortune to have a stroke or heart attack right now, your survival chances are dramatically reduced.

Lucieintheskye · 27/01/2021 15:20

What can you do about it?
Nothing. Stop whinging and learn how to crochet or something. You sound like you're the only person in the world who doesn't enjoy sitting in the same house for weeks on end. Shut up and be grateful you aren't in a hospital bed with a giant tube shoved down your throat keeping you alive.

alwaysraining123 · 27/01/2021 15:21

I don't agree with all of the lockdown measures but I would always stick to them. Given the beginning of the end is in sight (hopefully) I believe it may only take one last (big) push.

It's terrifying. I really feel for the medics and nurses who are having to work through this, and of course for the patients and their loved ones - covid or non-covid. I can't believe that some people are so selfish that they don't want to sacrifice anything in order to try and improve the situation.

FixTheBone · 27/01/2021 15:22

If you want to return to normality we need three things.

  1. a critical mass of vaccination
  2. rates so low that you could name everyone on a given day who tested positive 3)people to stay at home in until conditions 1 and 2 are met.

Its all medical care though OP so even if you don't worry about covid then you best hope you don't get unwell with anything else. I'm extremely unwell at the moment with long term illnesses. I should have been in hospital weeks ago but there's no space and all my consultants have been redeployed. It's getting risky now, where I may end up with serious complications. But there's nothing anyone can do.

Or maybe you'd care more about people with cancer not being able to get the scans and treatments they need so they're potentially dying early because they can't get the treatment they desperately need.

So best hope that doesn't happen to you or any loved ones OP - what is it that would make you feel that any of this would worth it do you think?

TitsOot4Xmas · 27/01/2021 15:23

Try delivering Moral Injury/Harm training to crying medics. OP. That ought to do it. Sad

Firstly, do you mean "How can I show my dissent?" Do you think you are some powerful bod who can encourage others to rise up against our political leaders despite not having a bleeding clue what to do? Hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
