Why is this the new thing that EVERYBODY uses as the reason that things can’t be done, it’s totally overused. Or am I being super sensitive?

I rang dominos a few days ago to try and get some meat put on a vegan base because whilst DC has dairy allergy I still like meat..

The response: ‘no, I can’t do that because of covid we’re not taking orders over the phone..’

I didn’t want to order over the phone, I just wanted to call and for them to swap a topping or two, pizza is same price.

She laughed said that’s not my problem I can’t change the rules bye.

It’s becoming part of every interaction I have, something is ‘because of covid’ when in actual fact covid hasn’t changed what I’m asking for for the logistics of it.

Has anyone else heard anyone say something obscure.. ‘because of covid’?

Due to covid no core agency is available. The answers seem to be, schools to deal with it, phone the police or we can talk online 😢 we have some kids that are ins erious danger and social work just expect slt to phone or visit the family home and report back.
My insurance company has no call handlers except for claims, however they had the most amazingly easy page to transfer policy to a new car 👍🌟 so they did well.
No dr or dentist here since March, dd saw nurse with suspected appendicitus and sent to hospital. No dr will see you. Rubbish like in school we weren't meant to be handling jotters, i work hand in hand with most of my kids, wipe noses, bums etc but shouldn't look at their jotter 🤣

I had an MRI nearly 2 months ago, I have rang up 4 times now asking about results finally spoke to someone yesterday and it’s hasn’t even been looked at and reported because of covid. I had been waiting nearly a year for the actual MRI because of covid. Hopefully it fine, I don’t know why they bother doing tests if no one is going to look at them.

My post office wouldn’t take a parcel that had a couple of spots of rain on it because of Covid.

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2021 22:39

@Sprockerdilerock

I've noticed at work when someone hasn't done something they should, the excuse is along the lines of 'its fallen by the wayside, because, well you know with everything going on...' and everyone tilts their head and 'mmmms' in a sympathetic tone.

We work in an office, I can't even work out why covid would have any bearing on not being able to update a spreadsheet but there we go Grin

That made me laugh! Covid : the ultimate excuse.

That is taking the piss! Does rain carry the virus now then? Covid rain. Not heard Whitty mention that one.

I’m drinking too much wine: covid
I’m eating too much crap: covid
I’m swearing at my husband more: covid
I want to burn the puddle suits: covid

LyndaSnellsSniff · 23/01/2021 22:43

Back when we could go places, I went for afternoon tea with a friend. We asked if they could split the bill for us but they said no, “because of Corona virus...”

Eh??!

Smile Covid. It's the new buzz word isn't it? Let's blame our terrible customer service on it. Our bank owes us a refund of money. Going to take 14 days. If we had to pay them anything it would take a nano second.
Sparklingbrook · 23/01/2021 22:44

Some of these must vary from area to area.

During lockdown I have been called for a smear test, been for it and got the results. DS2 has been for a routine check up at the dentist (NHS) and I have had a few private appointments including the hygienist. (Although they had to do it manually because of Covid but that seemed sensible because of aerosols.)

Looking at some of these examples it just makes me feel sorry for customer facing staff just having to carry out instructions from their managers/head office or whatever and getting yelled at for it.

MadameBlobby · 23/01/2021 22:45

@the80sweregreat I actually laughed when he said it as I thought he was joking. I’d have minded less if he’d actually been wearing a face mask.

Doublefaced · 23/01/2021 22:45

The two people in front of me in the queue at the post office last week had 11 and 8 parcels respectively.
All of which they wanted tracking.

Meanwhile a number of elderly people are standing waiting to be served.

As with everything corona related, because some people take the piss, it fucks things up for everyone else.

MadameBlobby · 23/01/2021 22:45

My smear was cancelled due to Covid but I have had it since.

Doublefaced · 23/01/2021 22:47

Buy a set of scales yourself?

Elphame · 23/01/2021 22:49

AO would deliver my very heavy new fridge into my hallway but not the extra 2 ft that would have got it up the step into the kitchen.

However if I'd paid another £30 for "installation" then that would have been perfectly safe. They can't of course install basic fridges as all you have to do is plug them in and you're not supposed to do that for 4 hours after delivery....

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2021 22:50

I think a few places are just taking the mick.
One employee outside boots during lockdown one , had a loud hailer and gave me the third degree about my purchase. You'd have thought I was going in with a big gun the way she carried on! I know it's the rules but it has turned some people into jobsworths.

what I didn't get was when I went to the GP, there was nobody in the surgery except me and the receptionist. When I walked the wrong way around their "one way system" mistakenly, I had to walk back again the other way even though it impacted absolutely nobody, completely bizarre and pointless jobsworthness. I would understand if anyone was in the surgery but it made not a jot of difference and probably lengthened the time I was walking around the surgery FFS.

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2021 22:54

Lockdown one I received numerous texts from my ' providers' telling me how important I was to them ( news to me)
'We're here for you' ' we value your custom'
Now it's lockdown (3) I receive sweet fa!
..

TheFluffiestCat · 23/01/2021 22:55

We went to a pub for dinner in September, when it was allowed. Instead of being allowed to choose a seat anywhere in the large pub, all customers were funnelled into one small area with less than a metre between tables, "because of COVID."

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2021 22:59

I heard a new one being barked at a customer the other day ' it's a government rule'
Things are getting bleaker.

Ilovelblue · 23/01/2021 23:03

In September, when things were relatively relaxed, a friend and I were at a National Trust property and went in the shop at the end. There was nobody in apart from the shop assistant and ourselves. In error, we went the wrong way round the shop and she screamed at us so we had to come outside and go in the other way!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 23/01/2021 23:06

The big Superdrug near me has someone on the door demanding that you do an essential shop only “due to Covid”. Apparently it’s ok for them to sell lipsticks/perfume/chocolate but it’s not ok to buy them. How does that work?!

Upsidedownfrown · 23/01/2021 23:06

Ds had hand surgery earlier this week. Gp practice can't see him to check the wound and stitches cos... covid! So back to the children's ward we go. The children's ward who, on discharge, said that if we had any problems getting a dressing appointment with gp practice we should just call to make appointment with them because they're hearing that "reason" a lot at the moment...
