Why is this the new thing that EVERYBODY uses as the reason that things can’t be done, it’s totally overused. Or am I being super sensitive?

I rang dominos a few days ago to try and get some meat put on a vegan base because whilst DC has dairy allergy I still like meat..

The response: ‘no, I can’t do that because of covid we’re not taking orders over the phone..’

I didn’t want to order over the phone, I just wanted to call and for them to swap a topping or two, pizza is same price.

She laughed said that’s not my problem I can’t change the rules bye.

It’s becoming part of every interaction I have, something is ‘because of covid’ when in actual fact covid hasn’t changed what I’m asking for for the logistics of it.

Has anyone else heard anyone say something obscure.. ‘because of covid’?

Yes, it’s just a convenient excuse for poor service.

Went for dinner (over the summer, when such things were possible) and was told they had scrapped all of the vegetarian options ‘because of Covid’. I had a nice bowl of chips for dinner.

Covid has also given a few retail workers the opportunity to shout at and be rude to customers “cos don’t you know there’s a global pandemic on.”

Most retail workers I encounter are very pleasant and I appreciate their hard work but a few supermarket workers have become really very unpleasant to encounter.

I've been trying to see a dentist ; no luck at all.
Some of the Supermarket staff are just getting their own back I'm sure if it! Barking at people and generally being bossy.
Trying to ring anyone is taking forever.
The virus has caused havoc for sure. So much has changed.

@ProudAuntie76 that's disgusting of them. Also from Tesco in 1st lockdown, you cannot buy 2 boxes of 6 organic eggs (total 12 eggs) from but you can buy 1 box of 12 Tesco eggs. Because of Covid, said the bonkers jobsworth at till. Argued with the manager who was equally bonkers.

Boycott the useless fuckers.

This! Had an arse in ASDA on self service asking why I was buying clothes in lockdown; his face when I explained it was a black dress for a funeral was a picture.

So, maybe I’m out of touch, but why are we able to access paid for private health services but not NHS services? Assuming the risk of transmission as said by *@DarcyJack* would be the same regardless of operator.

You tell me, no idea
I just get told stay home don't have an accident in case god forbid you actually have to access the nhs

I’ve been waiting weeks for a dentist appointment, currently pregnant and having havoc with my gums. I’ve had to keep ringing as they aren’t doing ‘check ups’ but I can get my teeth whitened...

Omg YES!

Had this exact conversation the other night.

I put a deposit down for a bed in late summer and was told to expect a delivery in November ....‘ cause Covid’.

What boils my piss is the automated message you when calling any bank/post office/company. Extremely high call volumes for 10 months? Pull the fucking other one.

The pandemic is underscoring already shit customer service and is becoming a catch-all term for sloppiness. Not everywhere, obviously.

Moved into a new house in the autumn. Tired to call up the current electricity provider, only to get an automated message asking if I was elderly or vulnerable. If not I had to email as phone lines were only open to those two groups because of covid.
We aren't going to catch it over email, and I want to speak to a human being! I realise, of course, it's because people are WFH and presumably have less phone responders/slower times. I wouldn't mind waiting but to just say no absolutely not infuriated me.

On the reverse, I work in an industry that deals with copyright and the amount of people who assume that copyright should have fallen by the wayside due to Covid is hilarious appalling. I'm constantly having to remind people that law is still law unless stated otherwise.

I take blood pressure medication. In January 2019 I was told I had to book an appointment for an annual review before I could get my next prescription. I was busy so I didn't. Same message, getting more and more urgent every month I went to pick up my prescription until April when I was told I couldn't have another prescription until I had my check up as it was REALLY IMPORTANT to check my heart, kidneys, liver etc were all functioning well etc.

Surprise surprise, not a mention of a mention of the need for any kind of review last year or even this January. Repeat prescriptions just ordered online and collected from local pharmacy. Obviously not so dangerous now then!

I know they can only do emergencies etc but it's been a year next month and it goes to show many all these check ups water just money spinners previously?

She was not impressed if I asked if that's because "covid cures wheat intolerance" Grin

@Furrybutts

I hear you op.
I waited for 8 months last year for the return of the deposit of a house I had moved out of 'because of Covid, all staff are furloughed'
Funny how those furloughed staff were able to take the deposit from the new tenant the same day.

And furlough was for when staff didn't have a job because of covid to secure it.

So many companies furloughed staff and then didn't provide a service people were paying for.

@the80sweregreat my dentist will see my 2 year old for his check up next month on the condition that he wears a mask for the 15 second walk from the entrance to the check-up room. The corridor is kept deserted due to Covid and also during the check up he will obviously have his mouth wide open. Nope they wouldn't hear of any deviation from the rules so a mask it is. Ffs! Sorry to hear you're having dentist trouble too.

Some things mentioned seem to pose little risk but some are done to keep staff safe in their jobs. They shouldn’t be out at risk unnecessarily and everyone deserves a safe work environment.

@MrsMercedes if your pet is fully vaccinated and gets their regular boosters then you are allowed 3 months grace.

My work gave restart vaccinations for the price of a booster for it lapping due to covid. In the veterinary practice where I am. Staff are rotational, we have to keep staff to a minimum and last year when this all kicked off we were only seeing emergencies. If we were all on duty and someone had covid it could and I stress could rip through the practice and we'd need to close due to being in isolation and/or off ill.

What are the dentists doing then?
Are they working in the hospitals?
It's bad that children can't see one that easily, as well as not getting an education a few might end up with rotting teeth now too.

@afternooncuppa

My local supermarket has removed all the checkout dividers "because of covid". It causes absolute mayhem when everyone's shopping gets mixed up, which then needs to be rectified, which then leads to queues forming and so and so on. Apparently it's because we touch them?? Haven't seen them remove the card payment machines though.

we have one divider per checkout to help with the social distancing,(dosent really work cos customers just take them from till in front or behind ) ,if you are shopping for several different people i just say leave a gap between .plus i try to clean the card machine everytime someone uses it but i think i am the only one who does
