I think he was asking Gavin repeatedly if he had offered his resignation but he refused to comment on that. I do find his interrogation style quite irritating. I wonder how his co-presenter doesn’t just tell him to STFU!

Thank you I didn’t dream it. Yes he kept asking and asking and Gav kept ignoring. But I didn’t think Piers or SR did Thursdays. Confused

But cases are falling? Why is continually being reported that they are not? Deaths aren’t yet but they lag, still catching up on Christmas. But cases are dropping .. I cannot see why anyone thinks it isn’t working? How quickly do we expect to see it drop?! It’s been 3 weeks..

New cases are falling but from the new cases found today a % will be in hospital maybe 2 weeks time then a % will die 2-6 weeks after that.
We are far from out of the shyt yet don’t be surmised if they are soon reporting 3000+ deaths a day in a couple of weeks.

Hope you all had a good Christmas. We are in for a real crappy Easter.

And no it’s not the governments fault it’s everyone’s.

2 weeks notice is a nice departure from telling everyone they’re closing the next day (like last time).

I had a consultation on Monday with a doctor working in a central London hospital. They had closed the department and his staff were on standby to help out with covid patients, but he said that in the end they weren’t needed and they’re likely to reopen next week. He said the hospital wasn’t as busy as they expected, which is good news. I’m clinging to that and the days getting longer

“ And no it’s not the governments fault it’s everyone’s.”

I would go for a combo of government for constantly mismanaging + selfish wangs who don’t bother following the rules

Because a large proportion of the British population takes a mile when given an inch? A lot of people would take it as an indication that everything's OK again and would use it as yet another excuse to ignore guidelines.

not the Government's fault it's everyone's

I didn't personally tell everyone to mix over Christmas. Neither did I fail to listen to SAGE when they asked for a lockdown in September. And so on.

A certain amount of this can be attributed to bad decision-making on the part of Boris and co.

But then again, some people voted for them (?why)

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'I'd be weeping into my gin if I were her after Piers Morgan tore her apart yesterday morning'

He doesn't tear anyone apart. He just makes a tit of himself on a daily basis by being the most amateurish 'interviewer' on telly. Morgan seems to think he's like Paxman or Andrew Neil when in fact his hysteria shouty style of questioning is more like something off Jezza Kyle. Susanna Reid sitting there like a nodding dog, what a pair of egotistical prats.

At least he's not scared of the people he interviews and doesn't let them off when they refuse to answer his questions. He's one of the only interviewers who really tackles the politicians re the 3 million excluded self employed. None of the main media political presenters properly challenge the politicians when they change the subject without answering the question - they just move onto the next question as if they've not been listening to the "non answer". I don't like Piers but I've started to admire the way he isn't afraid of not letting the politicians off the hook. Someone has to.

Maybe the army is coming in to nail our doors shut?

I'm sure lots on here would be positively jumping with glee at the prospect to be honest!

Wouldn’t they just.

She has this affect on me too. Most of the cabinet do though to be fair!
I've stuck to it all but only to try and protect the NHS , not because I particularly trust or like politicians.

@ConfusedcomMum and @the80sweregreat I'm so glad it's not just me.

I feel awful as she does represent the only female politician who does the briefings, and for hen sake of hen sisterhood I want to support her.

But argh, she really does get my back up.

Why has no one in power noticed how unpopular she is?

CBA to see who is actually in the Cabinet - but I know there are a few other women, Liz Truss, and the pensions one Coffey and that's about it. Could they not have a go at this briefings business?

Maybe not.

The blame is mainly in the Governments lap and to those who continually flout the rules. I hope that there will be justice served when an inquiry takes place for all those who lost loved ones to this dreadful virus.
It will be Easter ( or it should be) before lockdown ends if we want numbers down. But as Boris is now having a bun fight with another wing of his party ( 50 strong) who are against lockdown I feel that he will put party first as he always does and his job first.

Yes, give the GBP an inch....

We seem to forget it's a virus transmitted by air and by touching infected surfaces and introducing it the face.
No matter what the govt say is "acceptable" numbers for mixing, bubbles, schools/hospitals etc, every contact carries a risk of infection. Shops may be open, but they are a risk to staff and customers.
Just because the govt says you are "allowed" to do something doesn't make it safe to do that thing.
