Just that really . And what tier do you think your area will fall into?

I know the prediction is March but I’m being hopeful šŸ˜” I would even be excited for tier 4 at this point .

We are not waiting until everyone is vaccinated though. We are waiting until the vulnerable and elderly are. Then the pressure on the hospitals will ease.

IcedPurple · 18/01/2021 13:32

given that they are talking about by March 5 million will be vaccinated out of 60mil+

Huh? They've already vaccinated over 4 million. They'll have done 5 million by the end of this week, and it's not even February!

there is no safety for quite some time.

This is so melodramatic! You'd think people were cowering in their homes in fear of an earthquake!

I know this is often said, but is it actually true?

Given that the very elderly are admitted to hospital BUT don't go to ICU and do have a higher probability than other age groups of death, their impact on the capacity of hospitals may in fact be lower than those in other age groups who are admitted to hospitals in slightly lower numbers AND are admitted to ICU but DON'T die?

I know that sounds really ghoulish, but the cumulative impact on hospital numbers and ICU capacity of a smaller number of patients who are treated for longer because they stay alive may in fact be worse than the current situation?

Only about 400,000 have had both doses though.

@PerfectPearl

It is ridiculous, the amount of posts saying it's not worth living, people definitely need to change their outlook and mindset on life. Yes it's not ideal right now, yes it has gone on for a long time, but seriously, get a grip and a whole heap of perspective and actually realize what is going on in the world.
It's not ridiculous. Of course there's a lot going on in the world, however people are absolutely entitled to feel how they feel. It is hard to live this way, and many many people have made the choice that they don't want to. We have to stop ignoring mental illness just because it doesn't take up hospital beds. We do NOT get to decide that people's feelings are invalid because people are dying. People are dying of suicide because they're being told they're ridiculous for feeling badly right now.

This is not at all helpful, people are finding it understandably tough.

If you can't say anything nice when people express how upset they are, don't say anything at all.

Not ideal? People losing jobs, homes, can't find work, having no income, not qualifying for any financial support from the government.

What would be nice, was if other people 'got a grip' and realised not everybody is going through this equally.

People know what's going on in the world, but it's their own situation that determines how they feel. Bit like sitting at home with a job, no loss of income and preaching on the Internet to people without that to get a grip.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 18/01/2021 14:00

The top priority groups included the vulnerable young and over 50s. These are a large percentage of the current ICU beds.

Group 4 being vaccinated now. Group 6 in February and over 50s by end of March at the latest.

All evidence suggests that first dose will provide very good protection and limit the seriousness of virus if someone still gets it.

Seriously some people need to get off social media and actually read the news. None of this is hidden. You should all know this stuff by now Hmm

I am supportive of lock down btw, but that doesn't mean their feelings aren't real and upsetting.

Absolutely right

Are they doing it in order-I don’t know any 70-79 year olds who have been called up yet round here and that’s Group 3?
JosephineDeBeauharnais · 18/01/2021 14:05

Nope. End of March, assuming they can meet their new target of all vulnerable groups vaccinated by then, plus three weeks (to establish immunity), so end of April - and that’s a big ā€œifā€.

CoffeeandCroissant · 18/01/2021 14:06

That's not correct, current total is already around 4 million and target for mid February is over 12 million (groups 1 to 4). Already doing nearly 2 million per week and most mass vaccination centres are only opening this week, plus 24 hour vaccination in London not started yet but will by end of this month.

Has it occurred to you that perhaps it’s because people have a different perspective and they do realise what’s going on in the world that they feel this way?

Tiers will def be over by June when Johnson hosts the G7 meeting down the road from me in Cornwall. He won't be able to justify leaders and entourages flying in from everywhere while his own populace are under any restrictions
It's his chance to stalk the world stage for one last time.

Hopefully things will be better by summer but they can't just control the virus at will, if it isn't controlled it would be embarrassing to pretend otherwise.

I added Cornwall was chosen as it is the lowest rate area Sad so least likely to be in tier 4

inquietant · 18/01/2021 14:12

Added = assumed

peboh · 18/01/2021 14:12

@Redlocks28 I'm guessing not. Because my nana is group 3 and hasn't been offered a vaccine yet. Clearly they're just choosing priority groups at random.

Littlewhitedove2 · 18/01/2021 14:13

@SmudgeButt

It's like a diet. We're going to yo yo on with this for the foreseeable future. Politicians will be stupid and loosen things, we'll all go charging back to the pubs and gyms and there'll be another spike. Lather, rinse, repeat.

given that they are talking about by March 5 million will be vaccinated out of 60mil+ and the rest not done before next autumn there is no safety for quite some time. I'm not sure where the 5 mil comes from given that they haven't fully vaccinated those over 90 let alone those of us who work and shop and the rest.

I'm thinking 2023 things might (maybe) be approaching normal as we used to know it.

What on Earth are you talking about?? 4 million will have been vaccinated by the end of TODAY??

Doubt it tbh. Case numbers are still pretty high everywhere. I'm focusing on the fact that longer lockdown equals more vaccines given by the time we can go out.
