Do you think lockdown could end mid Feb?

Just that really . And what tier do you think your area will fall into?

I know the prediction is March but I’m being hopeful šŸ˜” I would even be excited for tier 4 at this point .

With local rates still high and hospitals running out of oxygen-I can’t see us being anything other than Tier 4.

I can’t see schools opening next month.

botoxbetty · 18/01/2021 12:31

@Blobby10 Christ, you are cheery.

Do you understand how a vaccine will help this coming year be better than the last? We will not be in lockdown from November until March...

Daisysflowers · 18/01/2021 12:32

I’m expecting a change to come mid/end of February what that change will be I’m unsure. Then most of lockdown to be lifted mid March to a much better ā€˜normal’.

2020quelhorreur · 18/01/2021 12:36

I think they’ve always said that the focus is on getting schools back - and I do wonder if they might try and aim for that after half term. Read somewhere that after over promising again and again, they’re now trying to slightly understate things.

yearinyearout · 18/01/2021 12:37

I really hope the universities can get back by the end of feb.

Drivemecrazy12 · 18/01/2021 12:39

I think it will be beginning of March at the earliest

Pastanred · 18/01/2021 12:43

Yep early March - tier 4 initially with schools and shops open

Yohoheaveho · 18/01/2021 12:45

I think all bets are still off

Rosehip10 · 18/01/2021 12:45

No chance.

beantrader · 18/01/2021 12:49

No and I wish the PM and his lot would stop giving unrealistic timelines like mid-feb. Makes everybody miserable when their inevitably missed

LickEmbysmiling · 18/01/2021 12:50

I too would rather pull out every stop now and get as many people vaccinated as possible, and try and get back to you some sort of normal life, albeit I imagine with masks and sd.. But with everything open!

Apparently half hearted tiers can cause virus mutating

Peachee · 18/01/2021 12:53

tatutata

No idea. Sometimes I feel like it would be easier if we all just killed ourselves, there is no fucking point to this life

@tatutata

I’m sorry.. I feel exactly the same I could burn my own head off most days.. It’s no joke.. but this really made me laugh!!!!!!

DrunkenKoala · 18/01/2021 12:54

I think it’s too soon, but the infection rate is falling in most areas so by mid Feb hospital admissions should be levelling off if not falling. I personally think the weekend before Easter (so mid-late March).

RedToothBrush · 18/01/2021 12:58

No because I don't think living in fantasy land is particularly helpful. Hospital admissions in parts of the country will only peak in the first week of February. The reason for the lockdown is because of pressure in hospitals. Deaths will probably not peak until the first or second week of Feb at the earliest.

You are proposing the government eases lockdown immediately after the peak. That's a recipe for absoluete disaster and I can think of no concievable reason of why anyone who wants this to be the last lockdown, would support reopening then.

Delatron · 18/01/2021 13:03

Once the pressure is eased on the NHS then we will reopen. It’s not about how many cases there are it is about whether hospitals can cope or not.

I actually hope we don’t go back in to the confusing tier system. We can’t shut off certain areas so people will just travel around through tiers. We need a clear, whole country approach.

Schools will be back first. Every week more and more will be vaccinated then the weather woll improve. I feel positive about Easter onwards.

Pastanred · 18/01/2021 13:06

The government have stated it’ll lift end of Feb/ early March and they are currently ahead of their targets so can’t understand why people are suggesting summer

DianaT1969 · 18/01/2021 13:07

No. I'd say mid March is likely.

Neron · 18/01/2021 13:13

'Lockdown' to finish end of march, then straight in to tier 4 again. So Lockdown by another name is my opinion from perusing the news today.

peboh · 18/01/2021 13:13

Nope. Probably Easter.

SophieB100 · 18/01/2021 13:15

No.
Easter at the earliest (if we're lucky) with some loosening of some restrictions.

2pinkginsplease · 18/01/2021 13:19

I’m hoping this lockdown is lifted mid Feb and back into lower tier.

I have a job offer and can’t start until restrictions are lifted!

whippettiger · 18/01/2021 13:23

In Wales we are being told to not expect significant unlocking until the middle of Feb but that there may be some headroom to make small changes at the next review (end of Jan). We have been in lockdown for I think 6 weeks but our rates were horrific, worst in Europe briefly before Christmas.

So give it a bit of time, the numbers will start to come down. Try not to pay too much mind to the posters saying we should all just collectively kill ourselves or that we will be in lockdown for the rest of the year Hmm.

England will I’m sure be back into tiers come some point in March, then there’s better weather and vaccinations protecting the most vulnerable (and also most likely to need hospital treatment).

People on MN love the drama and misery of this but the reality is we are having a terrible Winter but better days are coming.

SmudgeButt · 18/01/2021 13:24

It's like a diet. We're going to yo yo on with this for the foreseeable future. Politicians will be stupid and loosen things, we'll all go charging back to the pubs and gyms and there'll be another spike. Lather, rinse, repeat.

given that they are talking about by March 5 million will be vaccinated out of 60mil+ and the rest not done before next autumn there is no safety for quite some time. I'm not sure where the 5 mil comes from given that they haven't fully vaccinated those over 90 let alone those of us who work and shop and the rest.

I'm thinking 2023 things might (maybe) be approaching normal as we used to know it.

tatutata · 18/01/2021 13:26

@Peachee well that's something!! I just don't get why people seem to find it easier to be pessimistic in this situation, I mean in most situations I like to prepare for disappointment, but more on the level of maybe they won't have any coffee cake left in the cafƩ, not fucking apocalyptic nightmares!!

ParlezVousWronglais · 18/01/2021 13:29

No. The vaccine minister has just said it could start to lift gradually from March.
