Because life cannot go on like this and we are ruining kid's future

OP posts:
LockdownSucksBalls · 13/01/2021 18:11

All the while btw our borders are still open. Transition is rampant in hospitals and care homes? Until such times as that is addressed then no I don't support lockdown.

Having a shit shut everything except where it really matters approach is just an excuse not to take account.

It's madness how people on here seem to support this when everyone I know in real life has just had enough.

MarshaBradyo · 13/01/2021 18:11

Hope so

Once hospitalisation is under control we should see a big change to narrative on everything

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 18:12

@itsgettingweird

I just laugh at those who say they'll refuse to comply.

Because if shops and bars and leisure centre are open they can't go!

Playgrounds etc are still open.

And if you want to mix houses then it relies on finding others who are willing to mix - which you may well do. But that won't open schools, pubs shops etc and will just delay them further if cases rise again.
Plus you risk a fine.

Yes all these rebels turning up to the closed soft play/pubs/restaurants and going clothes shopping in the closed shops because they are no longer going to comply. Good luck with that. Grin
Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 18:12

@orientalknife

Okay I was wrong. You persuaded me

Bye. Hope you get through it all okay

It's good that sense has prevailed.
BlairCorneliaWaldorf · 13/01/2021 18:12

@GirlCrush

not playing with peers is now 'ruining their future'?? seriously?
You do realise that when people choose to homeschool their kids (during normal times) they are strongly advised to ensure their kids gain social interaction with peers through other means? There is a reason for that, believe it or not.

Maybe let’s look at this a different way.

Imagine back to a time before Covid. Now imagine that you heard there was a family living on your street that kept their kids locked inside the house for 23 hours a day and didn’t allow them any contact with anyone from outside their household. They weren’t even allowed to go to school because their parents thought they could do a better job than qualified teachers, despite having a full time job themselves.

Do you still think kids are not being disadvantaged by lockdown and the closure of schools?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/01/2021 18:13

@Pagan101

I'm with you OP, our kids have sacrificed their childhood for long enough. I'll give this another 4 weeks tops and that's my lot. The kids will go play with their friends and cousins, sleepover if everyone is on the same page. And from speaking to friends, family and other parents we are all most certainly on the same page. Enough is enough.
Good show - spread the virus between yourselves and prolong the pandemic, increase hospitalisation and prolong the restrictions. Hmm
LiverColouredBitchPointer · 13/01/2021 18:13

@Gottaloveacardie
There's a thread about what is happening in other countries, and it's very illuminating.
People in Germany demonstrating and criticising their country's response and vaccine rollout which has been hampered by their federal system.
As is the USA's.
Other European citizens complaining at how slow their government was to sign off the vaccines, to roll out the vaccination programmes.
Brazilians today have complained that the vaccine they've ordered from China only has a 50% efficacy rate, lower than promised.
Etc
People everywhere are complaining about their nation's handling of the crisis tbh.

DumplingsAndStew · 13/01/2021 18:14

@LockdownSucksBalls

I agree OP. They have until the end of February from me. This is a blunt tool that should have been used once. I don't really see anyone paying anything other than lip service to restrictions now and thank god for that.
Moaning about the length of time we are under restrictions, yet praising those who don't abide by them.... that's a type of special right there.
Mumski45 · 13/01/2021 18:15

@orientalknife I'm not sure what you are reading but there is an awful lot out there about the impact on children.

So what else do you suggest is done? Close hospitals and care homes for a couple of months?

Hospitals and care homes are taking all the precautions they can but they can’t just empty their buildings and shut up shop. So we have to curb infections outside of those settings to reduce the chances of them getting in there in the first place.

It’s baffling how willingly dense people are determined to be about this.

LiverColouredBitchPointer · 13/01/2021 18:18

@HazeyJaneII

I really worry about the amount of 'The NHS is not fit for purpose' posts recently - What alternatives are people saying would be better? Which countries health services are dealing with Covid in a more effective manner?
Yes, we could switch to an insurance scheme like the USA, and let people that are insulin dependent buy watered-down insulin because it's more affordable...
GirlCrush · 13/01/2021 18:20

How will your kids mental health be op when ten or twenty years from now they learn generations of people were put at risk so he/she could “play with their peers”.... potentially many died

Madhairday · 13/01/2021 18:22

But what of the cost to life of long term hard lockdowns? When people can't feed their family anymore because of massive unemployment and recession. When mental health is jeopardised on a massive scale

But you want to spread this out even further because by relaxing lockdown early (as we saw in November) everything will quickly go downhill again and cases build up, so leading to more lockdowns, more deaths, more MH issues, more losses of jobs, more hardship for families.

Why do you want that?

Gottaloveacardie · 13/01/2021 18:22

@HazeyJaneII that is good to hear. I wouldn't want to lose the NHS either, I just wish it worked better. Experiences are so variable aren't they? I have a massive bugbear with my GP surgery who have been awful since first lockdown (and haven't started vaccinating anyone yet.).

trulydelicious · 13/01/2021 18:26

@Sparklingbrook and @CokeAndPepsi

they are all variations on the same theme currently

Stirring up muck

LockdownSucksBalls · 13/01/2021 18:26

@Cornettoninja of course not. I would like the focus to shift as to why it is happening and why staff don't have proper ppe. There has been many threads on it from really upset staff. Instead of shouting stay the fuck at home and throwing insults (not you specifically by the way) it would do well for people to direct their anger to the right place

Pagan101 · 13/01/2021 18:34

@WiseUpJanetWeiss in my line of work I've given more than enough to this pandemic so please keep your judgment to yourself. My family and I are not willing to give much more.

Pagan101 · 13/01/2021 18:39

@Randomrebel you have no idea what I do for a living or how much I've already given to this pandemic. It's attitudes like yours towards complete strangers that makes MN one of the worst sites to post on these days.

This! It's wilful ignorance isn't it. It's utterly baffling.

The virus doesn't give a damn about how much you've given up for the pandemic. And by deciding that you will allow your children to sleepover, play with others in just four weeks you will just be prolonging it for everyone else.

How can you not see this?

@LockdownSucksBalls - fair point but it still remains that PPE becomes less of an issue when covid isn’t so prevelant in the community. If the PPE doesn’t exist or there are limitations on supply/logistics for the quantities needed then we have to work inside the situation we’re in.

I work in a hospital (not for much longer may I add - I’ve had it) and I’m not naive to the problems staff on the ground are facing but it’s not as simple as ‘get more PPE’ and ‘do infection control better’.

It’s the same as discussions focussing on how the a NHS has been underfunded etc. I completely agree but that’s of no practical hep right now.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/01/2021 18:52

@orientalknife children lived in flats with abusive parents before COVID. We should not be saying that is ok as along as schools are open. Children should not be living with abusive parents full stop. Why should we be saying it's ok if they have 6 hours of safe time in school 5 days a week.

Did you post/worry about children living with abusive parents in flats before COVID?

HSHorror · 13/01/2021 18:57

Children are missing out on stuff because other people, including parents and children, are not sticking to the rules.
All of those having play dates and sleepovers are part of the problem.
All those taking their kids to soft play in a t2 when they were t3.
All those who met up in t4 at xmas and new year. Yes gov have been useless, but this wave is actually just xmas and new year.
If you wanted kids in schools it should have been masks and rotas

cabbageking · 13/01/2021 18:58

Having the vaccine does not stop you passing it to others.

What figure are they considering as more safe? Who knows!
