On another thread saw that you'd broken your hip and had a shit experience. Very sorry to hear that. I hope it's mending now

Thank you, hopsalong; I'm getting there gradually - or I would be if there was anywhere to go Wink

I’ve always been supportive of suppression to save mass death but as with everything in life balance is needed. There’s a growing (quite scary) movement of Zero Covid zealots who effectively want lockdown/enforced border quarantine till everyone vaccinated. They clearly have no understanding of economics but I find it frightening so many are calling for it 😱

On here or elsewhere?

This is a fairly skewed site on many Covid topics as fear and emotion dominate

And many people have little interest in the economic harm or can’t connect the situation

Where is this movement?

Yes, what worries me is that any time you mention the economy you get "People are dying! why should I care about the rich!" I mean, really? You think talk of the economy is all about "rich people"? The economy is what PAYS for the NHS, councils, fire, ambulance, police, schools, roads, ambulances etc If the economy goes down, these services will have NO MONEY to operate. That will make covid look like a walk in the park in comparison.

Worrying about the economy has fck all to do with rich people and everything to do with the lives of everyone in the UK.

We shouldn’t have to stop all normal life to ‘save’ a government service. The NHS is not fit for purpose -still fossilised in a 1940s model -sending ‘letters’! We need s new and agile model of health delivery based on what works in other countries.
This!! With bells on
Oaktree55 · 15/01/2021 13:05

@MarshaBradyo it’s my favourite Twitter 🤪. I think perhaps people thought vaccination would be rolled out quicker. It’ll take (even at 3m doses a week) till Autumn to vaccinate all eligible adults. I think there’s naturally a % of healthy,

How long can lockdowns really go on for? Things like the furlough scheme can surely only go on for so long? I’m also anxious about the consequences of this even once we are out of lockdown

Exactly. So many areas of the NHS are still in the dark ages.

As for letter writing, yes, fully agree. Just why are consultants still sending/posting letters to eachother with the antiquated "Would you be so kind as to see this delightful spritely lady?" What the F is that all about. Referrals between depts should be a few tick boxes on an ipad/tablet and a "send" button, to send test results, notes, diagnosis, from their database with a note of action required, etc in a few miliseconds straight into the in box/database of the other department. None of this crazy dictating a letter, having it typed up, signing it, posting it, then incoming mail at other end, scanning it, and it finally getting on the desk of the consultant a few weeks later.

haha! I have wondered this too- its bloody weird. "wouldst thou mind awfully if thou could quill in an appointment with this delightful young madam? she is neither consumptive nor hysterical and I feel she has many productive child bearing years ahead of her so kind sir, your time would be considerably worthwhile"

vomit

I haven't read all of the thread but in answer to the OP- yes the government will drop restrictions as soon as the hospitalisations are manageable. They don't care about whether younger unvaccinated people get ill or not/or get long covid, only that there might not be a hospital bed to treat them in if the NHS gets overwhelmed.

I'm expecting England to be one of the first countries to completely drop social distancing in early May. We will not bother about quarantining international arrivals in a bid to boost out tourist industry e.g. -'Come to England, no social distancing or masks required!'. The issue will be with reciprocal quarantine from other countries though as our infection rates will be even higher by that point.
