We get all our nhs communications via email or text.

Still all letters here and multiple copies of the same one. Very efficient.

Lastfreakinglegs · 13/01/2021 17:33

The WHO state that lockdowns of healthy populations should be a temporary measure. Thus government has used it far too long as they've fucked up test, Trace, isolate.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 17:33

We get letters for appointments and follow up text reminders. It's fine.

The vaccine won't make any difference to transmission and cases though.
I did think Easter, but now I'm thinking September before schools are back.

HazeyJaneII · 13/01/2021 17:34

The WHO advised against lockdowns in 2019.

WHO advised an efficient test, trace and isolate system...and lockdowns in the event of an uncontrollable situation - we are having to have a series of lockdowns because this government fucked up the test, trace and isolate bit.

EffOrf · 13/01/2021 17:35

The letters are for in case you aren't registered with GP, not everyone is. They will be important for the vaccine so people don't get missed

FuzzyPuffling · 13/01/2021 17:36

I for one would march at some point

Where are you marching to? Got your £200 with you?

Nobody likes lockdown but I'm not sure an attitude of "I'm such a rebel, me" will further the cause of humanity much.

Marching over to the child's friend's houses by the sound of it demanding for them to be let in to play. Confused

Why not?. It is very likely that it will reduce transmission,
Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2021 17:42

Fascinating to watch the narrative change yet again

First it was to "protect the NHS" with restrictions until numbers reduced
Then it's not until everyone even vaguely vulnerable's been vaccinated
Now a few are saying it shouldn't be until absolutely everyone's been jabbed
And soon, no doubt, it'll be keep restrictions because of all those with Long Covid

Cases don't matter as much as hospitalisation rates , which once the first 9 groups have been done should be ok

@EmmanuelleMakro

We shouldn’t have to stop all normal life to ‘save’ a government service. The NHS is not fit for purpose -still fossilised in a 1940s model -sending ‘letters’! We need s new and agile model of health delivery based on what works in other countries.
It's not to save the NHS out of kindness/loyalty to the NHS. What planet are you on?

We're preventing the virus overwhelming the NHS etc because you don't want to live in a country where you get sick or injured and no one comes to help you. Where all the services you rely on stop.

Water falls from the sky but it won't come out of your tap unless enough people are able to work. Same for electricity and gas and those people who put out fires. (Yes they are ordinary people who get sick like anyone else)

So it was vital that not too many got sick at the same time.

frozendaisy · 13/01/2021 17:45

I think that once restrictions start to lift they won't be put back again, saying this though means they will err on the side of caution before they lift any.

Not much longer.
Summer will be fun.

Gottaloveacardie · 13/01/2021 17:45

Not true about the letters, some GPs still only use letters. DH had flu jab invite by letter this week. Seriously who would wait till January for a flu jab? He had it months ago at Boots. Agree the NHS is not fit for purpose unfortunately, despite the amazing efforts of its staff and we shouldn't have life on hold indefinitely because it can't cope.

Yes, there will be herd immunity by summer. As well as the vaccinations, a large proportion of the population will have had it and be immune by then at this rate.
Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 17:47

It must vary from place to place. My parents got a text to remind them to ring and book a flu jab.

Rosehip10 · 13/01/2021 17:48

@orientalknife ooooh you "would march" at some point? I'm sure the Government are trembling about the revolution. Grow up.

Pagan101 · 13/01/2021 17:49

I'm with you OP, our kids have sacrificed their childhood for long enough. I'll give this another 4 weeks tops and that's my lot. The kids will go play with their friends and cousins, sleepover if everyone is on the same page. And from speaking to friends, family and other parents we are all most certainly on the same page. Enough is enough.

ilikegrapes21 · 13/01/2021 17:49

The issue is that even though the chances of getting hospitalised and dying are much lower for the under 50s, if cases rise up into the millions (which they will if most restrictions are lifted and the R number goes up to possibly 3) the hospitals will be overwhelmed will ill people who need treatment, very quickly. So no doubt some restrictions will need to stay in place until a good proportion of the population is vaccinated.

HazeyJaneII · 13/01/2021 17:50

I really worry about the amount of 'The NHS is not fit for purpose' posts recently -
What alternatives are people saying would be better?
Which countries health services are dealing with Covid in a more effective manner?

I sincerely hope they are not on the same page.

@MzHz no need to resort to name calling. We are adults. You can get your point across without such immaturity.

OP posts:
midgebabe · 13/01/2021 17:54

Back of the envelope calculation says once the over 50 s plus vulnerables have been done the nhs should be safe. It doesn't need to be everybody.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 17:54

We are adults

However some posts on this thread suggest otherwise TBF.
