Because life cannot go on like this and we are ruining kid's future

I sincerely hope they are not on the same page.

It's ok if it's a really really large page. As in several metres long.

(If not, expect a spike in Pageland soon)

orientalknife · 13/01/2021 17:55

I would March for the rights of children stuck in flats with abusive parents with no escape because school is shut.

No one seems to think of them

In about 6 week's time if my maths is correct!

So now we are talking about 'abusive parents' and children living in flats?
MynephewR · 13/01/2021 17:58

@Pagan101

I'm with you OP, our kids have sacrificed their childhood for long enough. I'll give this another 4 weeks tops and that's my lot. The kids will go play with their friends and cousins, sleepover if everyone is on the same page. And from speaking to friends, family and other parents we are all most certainly on the same page. Enough is enough.
Same here
Mumski45 · 13/01/2021 17:59

Until people start looking at the problem as a whole and not just through their own eyes we will only make slow progress toward the end of this lockdown.

We need to be able to balance priorities and understand that sometimes the actions required in the interests of everybody are not the same as those for the good of our own children in the short term.

If we don't look after our front line nhs staff now we will soon have less and less of them not just in the short term but also in the long term when people considering their career opt for something else.

For example should we really be allowing our children to play as normal knowing that the indirect effect of that is to make other people ill enough to die and fill up our hospitals so no one else can access them.

orientalknife · 13/01/2021 17:59

@Sparklingbrook the main gist of my thread was the sacrifice to children. They come under this.

Not one newspaper headline I've read has considered the impact on our children. And the vulnerable would be more severely affected of course.

My point was that if severe lockdown carries on long term will the cure become worse than the disease?

OP posts:
orientalknife · 13/01/2021 18:01

There is also no conclusive evidence that children are spreading it to account for the spike

I was wondering what the gist was, it keeps changing. Probably best not to look at newspaper headlines.

Nobody knows how long this lockdown will go on for, as far as I am concerned we've come this far so why chuck it away now?

VanGoghsDog · 13/01/2021 18:02

@PhilCornwall1

We get all our nhs communications via email or text.

Still all letters here and multiple copies of the same one. Very efficient.

I get letters and texts. It depends what you've signed up to with them I think.

I do think it would be good if there was a way for Boots to tell the NHS that I had my fly jab with them back in Oct and then they can stop texting and writing to tell me to book it with them.

1500 UK deaths today. But yeah OP the worst aspect of this is your kid can’t play with his mates.

Gottaloveacardie · 13/01/2021 18:04

@HazeyJaneII

I really worry about the amount of 'The NHS is not fit for purpose' posts recently - What alternatives are people saying would be better? Which countries health services are dealing with Covid in a more effective manner?
Of course the health service of any country can be overwhelmed in a pandemic. But ours is constantly on the verge of collapse. And the basics - like contacting patients for vaccines - are hindered by our cumbersome administration processes and wildly variable standards of GP provision.

I just saw today's figure, the highest yet I think. Sad Presumably we are now seeing the effects of Christmas.

Do any of the people who constantly post these threads actually read the responses or anyone else’s threads? I know we are all anxious but there are JUST. SO. MANY. threads like this every day. Never does the OP have anything interesting or new to add that couldn’t be just added to one of the 184836164951 nearly identical threads posted in the past 5 minutes.

orientalknife · 13/01/2021 18:05

@PinkTonic it's not just my kid playing with his mates though is it?

It's kids isolated and their mental health plummeting. Kids not getting fed properly. Kids missing opportunities. Kids stuck in abusive homes. Kids not seeing their extended families. Kids seeing adults drink too much because they are losing income and their businesses.

I have primary DC. They have ‘busy’ lives in the sense they have dance classes, football, swimming etc that has all been cancelled. They’re not unhappy, they’ve found other things to do with their time.

orientalknife · 13/01/2021 18:06

And absolutely much more should be invested in the NHS

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 18:06

You are not wrong @CokeAndPepsi, they are all variations on the same theme currently. It's not about picnics though or mask wearing in the supermarket and for that we should be grateful...

x2boys · 13/01/2021 18:08

Its not going to carry on long term though is it unless people flout the rules to suit themselves ,and whilst it's very sad that their maybe some children stuck in flats with abusive parents I'm not sure how marching will help, it will just cause them to be stuck on those flats for longer as the gathering of people for marches will cause more outbreaks of COVID.

itsgettingweird · 13/01/2021 18:09

I just laugh at those who say they'll refuse to comply.

Because if shops and bars and leisure centre are open they can't go!

Playgrounds etc are still open.

And if you want to mix houses then it relies on finding others who are willing to mix - which you may well do. But that won't open schools, pubs shops etc and will just delay them further if cases rise again.
Plus you risk a fine.

They have indeed.

My 13 year old is kicking the shit out of Lewis Hamilton this season. The child is a driving god!! Hmm

Randomrebel · 13/01/2021 18:09

@Pagan101 and anyone talking about any marching nonsense. The reason we are in this mess is because of you and people like you. You really need to get a grip and give yourself a good shake. Or go and volunteer on a covid ward without PPE and sign a waiver to not receive any treatment should you require it.

Imagine what life was like for Ann Frank or in the war when children were evacuated and food was rationed. At least most of us have warm homes, access to most foodstuffs, access to communication technology and Sky and NetFlix etc.

I have been shielding and before you start also WFH PT as well as volunteering making phone calls on behalf of two covid organisations supporting the lonely, elderly and vulnerable by phone. I have two teenagers who are at home with parents instead of being out and about with friends their own age. They have missed out on so much, had exam stress and their futures will be affected by all this but they are getting on with things and not moaning and threatening to throw their toys out of the pram like you.

HazeyJaneII · 13/01/2021 18:10

@Gottaloveacardie
I just worry - we are heavy users of the NHS - we have a disabled child and I've had 3 children and cancer, our experiences have largely been extremely positive. I don't doubt that there are disparities (we have experienced them) that need to be sorted out, but in 2016 most of my son's therapies and services were taken over by Virgincare, and it has been one long shit show ever since....I really do worry about the NHS being eroded.

Cornettoninja · 13/01/2021 18:10

You’re as bad as the ‘Armageddon is here, weld the doors shut’ crowd. Extremism is unworkable and harmful whichever cause you’re hyper focused on.

If you give a shit about children’s long term mental health then get on board with trying to curb the spread of covid so they can have a sustainable solution.

We’ve seen the results of compromising because of pressures and choosing to ignore medical and scientific warnings and look where we are. It’s way past time we started doing things properly and stopped wasting all the effort everyone has had to put in.

Case numbers and hospital capacity decide what opens when. Nothing else.

orientalknife · 13/01/2021 18:10

Okay I was wrong. You persuaded me

Bye. Hope you get through it all okay
