We need to be given an end date

Vaccinations being rolled out and there will be a date when the elderly and/or vulnerable will have been vaccinated. It should be possible to announce a date now when this will have happened. On this date all restrictions should be lifted. Why has no date been given?

Ok here you go.

2nd April .

All better now ?

(It's as good a guess as any available. Because you CAN'T dictate the end of a pandemic.)

Are people really this thick ?

Roundlampshade · 13/01/2021 16:35

Can we make it 14 April as that’s my birthday?

RMRM · 13/01/2021 16:43

How, precisely are you 'not going to do months more of this'? You don't have a choice. Nothing's going to be open. The virus isn't going to piss off because you're fed up.

It's also not possible to 'calculate your own risk' because you aren't the only person in the equation. Why do people still not understand that you might be fine, but you might infect someone who is not so lucky? Are you saying you are more important than them? That is what you are saying, isn't it? Lovely.

Parker231 · 13/01/2021 16:47

Highest number of deaths recorded today from the whole pandemic.
Why does anyone think that restrictions will be changing?

cloud9ine · 13/01/2021 16:55

The government have all this in hand. It will all be over soon, We have a good exit strategy and clear precise objectives.

We have bought the best track and trace system in the world, done loads forward thinking and planning. They are implementing structural work on schools to improve ventilation systems and windows and make them safer. The government generally seem to be really learning from our mistakes and copying the examples of the countries with really low death rates and implementing all those efficient systems.

Even if there is another mutation over the summer and we have a new strain that is resistant to current vaccines it wont be a problem.. what could possibly go wrong?

Op, are you just scrolling on by the answers you don't like? You remind me of a toddler who isn't getting their way.

Why do you think that your irrational health anxiety is more important than someone else’s mental health? Their children’s education? Their basic right not to exist under house arrest? Their physical health that’s compromised by being locked in doors. Their livelihoods. Honestly I don’t give a crap about covid.
RMRM · 13/01/2021 17:32

Who said I had irrational health anxiety? What about my post said I did? God, you are so dramatic. It's a pandemic. Life isn't going to be the same for a while. Find a way to cope. I'm very sorry if you are in a terrible position, but you're going to have to get through it somehow. Speak to your GP if your mental health is bad.

RMRM · 13/01/2021 17:39

The absolute drama of saying we are under house arrest. We can still go out for plenty of exercise. You can exercise in the tiniest of spaces.

Livelihoods are a different matter, I totally agree. Govt should have done a lot more to help.

Well you seem to think that even when the vulnerable are vaccinated we have to continue this crap- so I was presuming you had an irrational take on the nature of this disease. But you are right- I shouldn’t have assumed health anxiety- what you are is a covid fundamentalist: a person who sees no harm other than covid, and believes no sacrifice is too great in the name of eliminating covid risk (meanwhile there’s nothing much evidence these policies are even effective). I won’t dignify your “dramatic” suggestion with a response- I think the evidence of lockdown harm is there well enough. Thanks for your GP suggestion, but rather than medicating myself as if I were the problem, I’d rather fight for my basic human rights and freedoms. Hopefully a critical mass of people will see there way out of this collective madness soon enough and we might be able to do something about it.

We are under house arrest. There’s a law that says we are not allowed to leave our home without a “reasonable excuse”. There are plenty of detention facilities that allow periods of leave for various reasons, they are still detention facilities. Read some basic jurisprudence on the “deprivation of Liberty”
RMRM · 13/01/2021 18:00

Oh dear.

Probably April 1st might be a more appropriate date

WiseOwlRelaxing · 14/01/2021 20:33

Im going out for a few drinks and a meal on 2nd April. People will have accepted this is what we live with now.

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2021 12:27

Dominic Raab said on the Andrew Marr program they hope to lift restrictions at the end of March following a conversation about the vaccine roll out timetable. Of course it's an optimistic statement , but it's the first time I've heard anyone give actual dates of any kind.
It still feels a long way off though :(

Roundlampshade · 17/01/2021 19:43

End of March? So basically a full year then?

This. On pretty much every rubbish thread they start. I hate posting negative stuff, but it gets really tiring. It does, however, lead to some good responses, so there's that.
Parker231 · 17/01/2021 20:08

Rabb said they wanted to lift the lockdown at the end of March but we would then go back into tiers

I have a life Smile If you notice I do respond to both positive and negative comments but also am busy. Nice to see a discussion developing and it's not always necessary for me to repeat what I think.
