We need to be given an end date

Vaccinations being rolled out and there will be a date when the elderly and/or vulnerable will have been vaccinated. It should be possible to announce a date now when this will have happened. On this date all restrictions should be lifted. Why has no date been given?

OP posts:

@married15

Well you can’t cure fucking stupid
Exactly what I think every time I read this phrase...
EngineeringFix · 12/01/2021 17:48

It would also have to take into account the NHS situation.
Also there is no point telling people no more restrictions after June then going back on it. Which is why Whitty has already pointed out next winter may bring some restrictions again. Just in case Boris does as you demand!

@Imaginetoday
I'm not talking to you, sorry I'd have thought that was clear because I haven't seen you do any of the things I was ranting about in your posts....

..and it was a rant, because I just feel so tired of hearing and reading some of the misinformation out there.

Apologies.

HazeyJaneII · 12/01/2021 17:55

@MrsFezziwig

I honestly don’t know one single person who prefers the current situation to their previous lives. It’s just a device used by OP and her ilk to disrespect those who are prepared to knuckle down and get on with things without histrionics - that doesn’t mean we don’t want it to end and it’s insulting to say that we do.
And this^^ Exactly this.

OP has clearly stated several times that she’s asking about an end date for the restrictions. She’s not asking for a date when coronavirus will suddenly disappear.
marshmallowfluffy · 12/01/2021 18:08

Nobody can give a date as there's too many unknowns and we should know better than to trust the person who thought he'd see his mum on Mother's Day 2020
There were even professors saying that we wouldn't have a second wave and look where we are. Nobody could have predicted these new more transmissable strains.
For now, let's hope that the vaccinations go smoothly. That supply reaches the many places across the countries and there's no weather issues like a Beast From The East making travel to vaccine hubs too hard.

3rdNamechange · 12/01/2021 18:17

Also , whilst we can protect the vulnerable , no one knows how it will affect them.
Plenty of young , fit people very sick with it where I work.

marshmallowfluffy · 12/01/2021 18:25

The science isn't sure about transmission post vaccination yet.

If you have a football stadium full of vaccinated adult fans what would the effect be on the kids and people who can't be vaccinated? Presumably nobody can test this yet where as socially distant spectators would be easier to control and predict.

EllenRipley · 12/01/2021 18:26

There won't be an end date for sars cov2, it will become seasonal & endemic and until some herd immunity is achieved (vaccine or otherwise), there will probably be some winter flu/corona season restrictions which shouldn't be too hard to stick to.

This though? There has to be. There will come a point soon, regardless of viral mutations and vaccine efficacy, where I'll be unable to accept zero income and the non-covid infection risks to my & family's physical and mental health (which has already been adversely affected).

There's too many people 'saving the nhs' and 'protecting the vulnerable' who themselves are going to need the (broken) nhs, and suffer long term health problems and poverty because they're continuing to do the right, responsible, and moral thing.

All of which I've gladly done. It is becoming increasingly less sustainable though, and the fallout from lockdowns and govt ineptitude is going to last a lot longer than the bloody pandemic.

🤷🏻‍♀️

pheonixrebirth · 12/01/2021 18:27

I messaged "COVID" to ask how long they are going to be around for. They got back to me saying that they weren't sure and would get back to me, they might want overtime but are also thinking about knocking off early...............

Honestly ffs! A deadline on an ever changing, deadly, worldwide pandemic?🤦‍♀️

Flackattack · 12/01/2021 18:34

@mollypuss1 do share the date all big events organisers have been told?

My friend works in hotels and they are keeping them closed until at least April

Northernsoulgirl45 · 12/01/2021 18:50

Giving a date is pretty pointless as it won't mean it will be over at that point. It will be over when the conditions are right.
Boris gave us dates before but that didn't end well.

PuzzledObserver · 12/01/2021 19:52

This is why things have been very, very vague throughout. They probably knew more or less how this was going to play out but if at the start they had said "look, this is going to last at least a year, possibly longer and there will be a series of lockdowns and restrictions. Also there will probably be a vaccine at some point but we will just have to wait and see how effective it is" how would that have gone down!?

Christ Whitty said pretty much exactly that back in March.

the80sweregreat · 12/01/2021 19:56

People thought it would be over in twelve weeks back in March!
I knew it wouldn't , but I'm sure some people bought into that.
They don't listen to the experts because it's not what they want to hear.

That’s ok...I had a flurry of posts with lots of info in my replies so thought you were🤣
Yep, I want to rant at misinformation..just trying to explain on bits I know to feel less frustrated.
We can only plough on 💐

I can't believe anyone intelligent would even ask the question.
I can't believe anyone intelligent wouldn't ask the question frankly.

Because there are to many factors to determine the course of this virus that we have little or no control over . Just look at the affect of new mutation .

Redbrickwall · 13/01/2021 07:58

I agree OP. Freedoms are very easy to take away and more harder to give back.
An end date or goal would also mean more compliance

Redbrickwall · 13/01/2021 08:01

Ps. Asking anything sensible on this forum however will get you an attack from the militant pro-lockdowners who are perfectly happy sitting at home, having poor people bring them their deliveries whilst they take part in their PT sessions over Zoom, shouting how amazingly virtuous they are.

....and this is sensible?

Don't be a dick

ssd · 13/01/2021 08:15

I do agree with @Billie18 saying more people will die with other things due to the restrictions, that wont have died with coronavirus. I think this will so affect so many people's mental health that are under 40 and would stand a good chance of recovery if they got coronavirus.

ssd · 13/01/2021 08:17

I dont think theh can seriously give an end date.

But they need to start giving younger people some hope. Their lives have been trashed.

Redbrickwall · 13/01/2021 08:32

@HazeyJaneII good morning to you too

Yes, MN is full of them.
