Maybe the drop in vaccinations is because the low hanging fruit of the current target group has been done, with the remainder in that group less willing or able to access, while next categories are just opening up?

ceeveebee · 19/01/2021 16:44

Dashboard seems to be updated now

Firefliess · 19/01/2021 16:45

I doubt the dip in vaccination numbers is to do with when people want to attend - they'll mostly be going whenever they're told to surely? (Though I agree that there's probably no demand at all for 3am vaccinations, as space is clearly not the limiting factor, and vaccinaters who work a night shift don't then work the next day, do they?)

Could be the dip between over 80s mostly done in many areas and 70-79 year olds just being invited today. Or possibly a dip in vaccine supply.

This is the case in our area. It's care homes and the housebound for most of the week, with two smaller clinics on Friday and Saturday back at the GP's. Care homes and housebound take much longer to do.

Regulus
This is still a massive amount considering the amount of places that are closed

But hospitals, care homes (big outbreaks), some schools, workplaces - Beeb has an article today on employers forcing staff to come in unnecessarily.

As posted by me earlier, locally care homes are being hit hard. I have since learned that due to the outbreak at DM's care home, the GP's is now completely closed due to positive cases and those in isolation. Shocker.
MRex · 19/01/2021 16:55

I think it's either not enough vaccine coming through the process (diverted to finish care homes as they're taking longer?), or the gap between the age groups. Hopefully the vaccine create/test/fill/distribute processes can be sped up a bit if that's what it is. I know a ridiculous number of people getting vaccinated this Thursday or Friday (basically everyone 70+ or CEV who I know apart from 2 neighbours going next week). We'll have to wait and see at the next press conference, someone's bound to ask.

oneglassandpuzzled · 19/01/2021 16:55

That really is shocking. Bigwoolly

Firefliess · 19/01/2021 16:58

Yes it could be vaccinaters diverted to doing care homes, which takes longer couldn't it? The progress on care homes being done has seemed slow, compared with the over 80s in general, and there's clearly going to be pressure to get them done before cracking on further down the age groups.

ancientgran · 19/01/2021 17:00

Care home where I work have been told no idea when residents will be done, staff "likely" to be done soon but no indication of what soon means. I had a text from GP surgery today saying it is going to take time and don't ring. Locally I only know one person who has had the vaccine, over 80 with cancer.

SusannahSophia · 19/01/2021 17:01

Anyone else still having problems with the dashboard? I’m still getting a ‘request blocked’ message.

ancientgran · 19/01/2021 17:02

Maybe announcing Slough had done 100% of care homes has focused their attention in areas where care home numbers done are low?

Monkeytennis97 · 19/01/2021 17:02

Yup just got that too
ancientgran · 19/01/2021 17:04

Just to add the home where I work has offered to take residents for their vaccinations, we've been doing hospital appointments for them. Still no offer of dates.

Physer · 19/01/2021 17:06

I suspect it's a supply issue with vaccinations. There was a GP on tv this morning who said they were doing 1500 a week and have only been allocated 600 this week.

Ah, had to type in the url manually. Seems fine now.
LickEmbysmiling · 19/01/2021 17:08

Seems care homes are unfortunately seeing a large rise in infection again

MRex · 19/01/2021 17:17

Is the covid cases map broken for everyone or just me?

nonamehere · 19/01/2021 17:18

Re vaccination numbers; I'm a volunteer steward at a large GP centre serving the whole town - we are well ahead of average numbers vaccinated, and the organisation is very impressive. They seem to do approx 1000 patients over the whole midweek, then a further 1000 at the weekend. During the week other clinics are still running, so fewer rooms and vaccinator staff available - at the weekend they take over the whole building, and the local GPs are out in force. I don't know how many private home visits have been done ( definitely some) but apparently all the care homes had been done by last week.

Monkeytennis97 · 19/01/2021 17:18

@MRex I still can't get on the dashboard

Hardbackwriter · 19/01/2021 17:30

Have you tried clearing cache etc? Mine wouldn't work but did when I tried again in incognito mode (easier than clearing cache on a phone) so I think that must have been the issue

ceeveebee · 19/01/2021 17:40

Map is only working at borough level for me, can’t see the numbers down to MSOA level (although the postcode search on the front page seems to be working ok)

boys3 · 19/01/2021 17:41

Death figure is horrendous but sadly to use that awful term baked in not unexpected. Although the ONS reported numbers this morning for care home deaths was equally sobering.

The cases downward trajectory however is certainly encouraging.

It still needs to be seen in the context that the 7 day average in England is still double that when the November lock down started.

As Monday’s spec date starts to get reported through over the next few days that will start to give a real indication as to whether the trajectory of cases falling is being maintained. Last Monday had 51,298 cases in England. Fingers crossed.

Notmulan · 19/01/2021 17:46

Global picture. Would be better to see this as a proportion of population but still interesting
