As the title says. If someone has breach the covid restrictions that bad that they receive a notice and fine from police then why don't we have a system in which their name is recorded on some sort of database NHS etc and they are refused treatment for covid. This would free up the beds and care for those that did follow lockdown rules.
I am talking about the people constantly having house parties, going to work when they know they are positive etc.
This would probably be more of a deterrent than a fine.

Ridiculous idea that a civilised society would rightly want no part of. Where would it end

Sarahandco · 08/01/2021 09:36

Don't be stupid

unmarkedbythat · 08/01/2021 09:36

OP, you need some help. This is a horrible way to think. Shame on you.

wildraisins · 08/01/2021 09:37

@ancientgran

No, I don’t want to live in a country that refuses certain people medical treatment. If you start with this then where does it end? Unfortunately from what I hear and read they are doing it now but based on age not behaviour. It is drastic to get to that stage and horrific for the doctors making the decisions.
This is a strange comparison to make.

They are having to prioritise out of necessity and the current strain on resources, not because they are trying to punish people for some perceived offense that meant they "brought it on themselves".

There's a huge difference.

supersonicginandtonic · 08/01/2021 09:40

What a silly thing to say. Often there are reasons why people have broken the law, often very valid reasons. 🙄

I work in substance misuse. My service users are regularly hospitalised due to reasons that are self-inflicted. Do we start judging them and denying them treatment too? Because if you get off your high horse and get to know these people you often find they have the most horrific backgrounds.

MrsMomoa · 08/01/2021 09:40

How's that going to be policed exactly???

Underhisi · 08/01/2021 09:43

No.
Aside from the ethics the Police have got it wrong over covid fines and fines have been quashed.

MammaSchwifty · 08/01/2021 09:47

nice. very Old Testament.

longwayoff · 08/01/2021 09:50

Oh well done OP. We could just euthanise them on the spot for failure to comply. Or is extra suffering compulsory?

newaroundhere2 · 08/01/2021 09:50

Very old testament made me laugh

TheReluctantPhoenix · 08/01/2021 09:50

@SirSamuelVimes

I somehow suspect that you would be squealing for treatment in the unlikely event that you needed it and would fail to keep to your side of the Faustian pact. People who ‘can’t do’ lockdown are generally even worse at ‘doing’ illness.

However, we do not ration medical care, and should not, tempting though it is.

We do need enforcement, though, with meaningful fines and, ultimately, jail for egregious offenders. I cannot think of any other laws that people would accept zero enforcement of.

BlueBaubles12 · 08/01/2021 09:54

Ridiculous, and slightly sinister. What about people who make a genuine error of judgment? No medical treatment? Absurd.

Also, it’s the thin end of the wedge. What next, speeding and crash? No medical treatment. Smoke? No medical treatment, stop smoking. Overweight and have associated medical conditions? No medical treatment, stop eating all the cake.

itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 09:55

@draughtycatflap

“Do we keep a record of whether you were naughty or nice”

Well, if it’s good enough for Santa...

🤣
TammyHullfigure · 08/01/2021 09:59

Why stop there OP?

We could stop treating people who drink, fatties, smokers, anorexics, thieves, shoplifters, people who have affairs.... Really we could pull up a nice long list and that ought to free up plenty of beds.

BlueBaubles12 · 08/01/2021 10:00

Also, the most effective way for the government to ensure compliance is to ensure that you take the public with you. If the public trust you and believe the rules are necessary, legitimate and proportionate, you don’t need the big stick.

No chance of that anytime soon.

mumwon · 08/01/2021 10:00

troll or Daily Fail?

Kendodd · 08/01/2021 10:01

If an ISIS bomber injured themselves while murdering 100 people, the NHS would treat them. Rightly so. Leaving people without care is not us, we are better than that.

TwentyTwentyOne · 08/01/2021 10:03

If police were driving up and down the roads and randomly stopping people they wouldn't go out and make unnecessary journeys. It really is quite that simple.

The other day I had to drive 25 miles into a city to collect something important. I was expecting to be stopped but didn't see one police car.

PandemicPalava · 08/01/2021 10:05

Bloody hell where would that lead? Ridiculous

Quaagars · 08/01/2021 10:07

Don't be so bloody stupid.
Where do you draw the line with that?!
As someone said, slippery slope.

We have to collect our step daughter eow. It’s a 40 mile round trip.

Never see any police car and we have never been stopped in any lockdown.

thefallthroughtheair · 08/01/2021 10:12

While we're at it, perhaps everyone overweight or obese presenting to hospital with Covid can also be refused treatment? After all, they've had 10 months to lose weight.
And people who drive non-electric cars...we know how much air pollution affects our health and there is clear evidence of a link between it and the severity of respiratory illnesses; so people who drive too much shouldn't be treated.
In fact, seeing as Covid is only one of a panoply of illnesses which we expect the NHS to solve for us, perhaps we should all just bugger off and stop expecting our taxes to buy us any kind of civilized society.

TrialOfStyle · 08/01/2021 10:12

I see OP dropped the bomb and ran.
