As the title says. If someone has breach the covid restrictions that bad that they receive a notice and fine from police then why don't we have a system in which their name is recorded on some sort of database NHS etc and they are refused treatment for covid. This would free up the beds and care for those that did follow lockdown rules.
I am talking about the people constantly having house parties, going to work when they know they are positive etc.
This would probably be more of a deterrent than a fine.

Absolutely not because the ethical implications are scarily dangerous and would start us down a dangerous road we don't want to go on as a country.

But I do actually understand the sentiment and why you have thought this. A man was murdered at his own NYE and I struggled to muster any sympathy and actually worried that my immediate thought was "tough. I care more about the people who will now have contact with your guests and could die of covid"

Not sure this pandemic is bringing out the best in me Grin

Thinkingg · 08/01/2021 09:25

Given hospitals are overwhelmed and they are having to choose which people to give oxygen to, in theory I kinda wish this could be taken into account. Some people are utterly taking the piss. It's not fair on those who have followed the rules.

On the other hand, the politicians who ignored warnings also have some blame to take.

matronyoshka · 08/01/2021 09:26

Yes, as long as you're also willing to deny treatment to anybody who's obese and hasn't lost the excess weight in the last year. They chose to remain obese despite knowing it puts them at greater risk of becoming very ill with COVID and burdening the NHS.

Clearly I don't believe this, by the way.

draughtycatflap · 08/01/2021 09:28

“Do we keep a record of whether you were naughty or nice”

Well, if it’s good enough for Santa...

newaroundhere2 · 08/01/2021 09:29

Yes I was thinking of Santa lol

Katie517 · 08/01/2021 09:29

Stupid idea dreamt up by someone who has no sense of reality. The police are on a power trip fining people for sitting on park benches (even though that’s not illegal) and you think someone who has committed such a heinous crime.... should be denied medical treatment?

newaroundhere2 · 08/01/2021 09:29

Santa wouldn't get any treatment, it's his own fault for eating too many mince pies

LucilleTheVampireBat · 08/01/2021 09:30

It is frightening that people think like this.

I am going to choose to believe that OP is a goady fucker.

Marley20 · 08/01/2021 09:30

Oh god can you imagine front line staff being told they have to turn away certain sick people! It's easy to come up with these batshit ideas if you're not the one who has to do it. I wouldn't turn anyone away.

Tanith · 08/01/2021 09:31

I'd prefer to see Nigel Farage and his army of irresponsible campaigners shut down and prosecuted, myself.

pinbinpin · 08/01/2021 09:31

@Porcupineintherough

@pinbinpin to be fair, as the hospitals reach capacity, people will be refused emergency medical care. Or taken into hospitals that are then unable to offer an adequate level of care as there just aren't the staff.

Yes and that will be based on clinical judgement, as it should be, not on unsubstantiated reports of piss-taking.

What about non-ask whether - will Doris also be checking whether they do genuinely have a medical reason not to wear one?

ancientgran · 08/01/2021 09:31

No, I don’t want to live in a country that refuses certain people medical treatment. If you start with this then where does it end? Unfortunately from what I hear and read they are doing it now but based on age not behaviour. It is drastic to get to that stage and horrific for the doctors making the decisions.

AbsolutelySpiffing · 08/01/2021 09:31

Oh people are just getting fucking ridiculous now. I find this board embarrassing to read sometimes.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 08/01/2021 09:31

As PP have said. If you stop and think about it, this is ridiculous idea.

No hospital treatment for those who crash their car while speeding? No medical treatment for smokers? Obese people? They aren't following government guidelines.

I don't think so.

newaroundhere2 · 08/01/2021 09:32

Also what about the people who breach the rules as they know they will lose their home or won't be able to feed their kids unless they do?
Ofc if you have a cushy well-paid job WFH then it would be easier to comply. So then you're just systematically denying treatment to poor people.

CrunchyCarrot · 08/01/2021 09:32

No. Just no.

Haffiana · 08/01/2021 09:32

I wonder if OP's post counts as a hate crime?

She should be put on a database.

Eve · 08/01/2021 09:33

How about those who voted Tory and supported underfunding of NHS for how many years , and didn't support pay rises to nurses and give PPE millions to mates to supply nothing don't get treatment?

Lets not treat the 25k people in Uxbridge who voted for Boris ?

matronyoshka · 08/01/2021 09:34

On a serious note, the day anybody in power starts taking these sorts of suggestions seriously is the day the NHS that we're making all of these sacrifices to protect dies. What a truly basic lack of understanding of the whole purpose of the NHS.

ithinkyouareveryrude · 08/01/2021 09:34

Don’t be a fool. This is how facist states start.

luxxlisbon · 08/01/2021 09:34

No thanks, we don't do this for drinking, smoking, obesity or other general stupidity. This would not be the kind of UK I would want to live in.

pinbinpin · 08/01/2021 09:34

Can you imagine the police at the site of a terrible road crash in the middle of the night, mangled bodies dying in cars. Right, this one doesn't appear to have a mask in the car, let him die. These ones with young children in the back, don't get them live-saving emergency treatment just yet, I just need to check in at HQ and wake someone up to check the database and see how far from home they are, shouldn't take more than an hour.

How do people come up with these ideas? it's worrying.

wildraisins · 08/01/2021 09:34

Because that's not how a civilised society works in the 21st Century.

What a terrifying and horrible idea.

Splann · 08/01/2021 09:36

I know the UK has sunk pretty low in terms of government and morals but I’d hope this is where they would draw the line.

newaroundhere2 · 08/01/2021 09:36

I hope you are not in a job where you have any kind of power over other people, OP.
