So, Boris, Whitty and I think Vallance are doing a press briefing at 5 pm today.
Hope he's ready for some difficult questions!

@derxa

Boris may be well educated if you class going to Eton under that umbrella. But it's widely reported he isn't particularly academic. Grin Really? I know MN is full of intellectual snobbery but this takes the biscuit.
Why's that intellectual snobbery? It was said those well educated often say Alas. As if those of us who don't aren't well educated.

So this was my response to point out great education doesn't equal good academics.

But you keep quoting out of contact to make some off point Hmm
**@MNHQ* I really think it's time you do something about loudtree* they are absolutely scaremongering on every thread they are on, it's not just enough to keep removing their posts, their words could cause serious harm to one or more of your users, I think you have a responsibility here.
I fully agree more. Some people are messed up and we need to stop providing a platform for their venomous nonsense.

@Dogatetheleftovers

Thanks Parker231. Does that mean that every batch will be delayed before it can be used?
No, each batch has a lead time it takes to manufacture and test including the normal batch release required from regulators. It is standard stuff. The planners at manufacturing sites calculate delivery dates based on those cumulative leadtimes including all testing and quality process at the sites and regulators. ( I was one of these planners and don’t envy the poor planners managing this under gaze of parliament and press😱) Issues and delays come from other sources, unexpected adverse events during manufacturing ( and with vaccines this is common and expected), issues in test results that may need to be repeated. Supply of components (such as vial shortages were hearing about) . These then can have knock on effects to the downstream processes and resources ( stages that come after) and then cause disruption to supply chain. The manufacturers can’t afford to hold much excess surge capacity to catch up delays- and total leadtimes can be 3-6 months for vaccines. it’ll be a bit hand to mouth especially in situation like this where demand is far exceeding supply and lives are at risk. Vaccines are very hard to make. Supply issues are common. We have to expect this. Boris’ “with a fair wind “ re vaccine supply yesterday is laughable. As I used to say in my job “I “hope” is not a plan”

@sadpapercourtesan she was Miss Barrett but did get married, I forget her married name.

Elephant4 · 05/01/2021 19:01

I missed it but just read the Guardian summary.

Did Boris say they may not be back to school before the summer?????

Elephant4 · 05/01/2021 19:09

“Johnson, who throughout much of the pandemic has been the government’s main voice of optimism, was notably wary. He refused to guarantee that children would be fully back at school before the summer, instead calling this a “fundamental hope”.

In today’s Guardian.

MistleTOEboughski · 05/01/2021 19:12

Anyone watching Keir Starmer? What did he say in his address?

MistleTOEboughski · 05/01/2021 19:18

Ok I found it nothing interesting.

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2021 19:19

Mistle what was general gist. Telling Johnson off or other? ;

MistleTOEboughski · 05/01/2021 19:21

It was just a short speech saying Labour back the lockdown and we must focus on getting everyone vaccinated.

No he didn't.

What he didn't say was he guaranteed they'd be back.

But he did repeat he was opening education first and still wanted to look at small lifting in mid feb but it relies on vaccines etc going as planned and no further curve balls.

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2021 19:23

That’s good actually, if for whatever reason people prefer to hear it from Starmer it’s the same message.

itsgettingweird · 05/01/2021 19:24

@MistleTOEboughski

Anyone watching Keir Starmer? What did he say in his address?
Basically he recognises this will be hard for a load of families. But it's necessary and they support lockdown. He will be supporting government and trying to work with them to support vaccine role out. And that obviously there questions to be asked and they do need to be asked but vaccine is priority.

I was actually impressed with him for once. Think it's the most speaking out he's done!

Northernshepherd · 05/01/2021 19:43

Yes @MNHQ please ban loudtree or if not can you explain why you think it's acceptable to let them cause this sort of mental distress to other users.
