So, Boris, Whitty and I think Vallance are doing a press briefing at 5 pm today.
Hope he's ready for some difficult questions!

Forever then. Ta Chris. 🙂😂

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/01/2021 17:37

Yes, I am doubting what I heard...

Dogatetheleftovers · 05/01/2021 17:37

Thanks Parker231. Does that mean that every batch will be delayed before it can be used?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/01/2021 17:38

It did say 1 in 50 on the graph showing the ONS results earlier.

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/01/2021 17:39

1 in 50 IS 2%.
Fuck!

HipTightOnions · 05/01/2021 17:39

Did he just say “schools are safe”?

viques · 05/01/2021 17:40

I do wish I understood signing. I would love it if the BSL signer was really signing what he thinks of Boris...... I am pretty sure I saw a sequence of signs a while ago that looked like “dickhead liar with an ego the size of St Paul’s dome”

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/01/2021 17:40

Sorry I don't think I said thank you for answering my question, people. Thank you!

Dogatetheleftovers · 05/01/2021 17:40

1 in 50 is such a high figure. If you think about the number of people in a supermarket for example, touching food etc, there could be maybe 1 or 2 people with Covid in there!

DuncinToffee · 05/01/2021 17:40

@Dogatetheleftovers

Thanks Parker231. Does that mean that every batch will be delayed before it can be used?
This article explains it www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55488724

@FlibbertyGiblets

Yes, I am doubting what I heard...
You heard correctly. Up from around 1/90 around a week ago iirc.

Really a lot of people have, and have already had this so it will be interesting to see what that means for herd immunity as we learn more about how long immunity lasts (e.g. 1 year, 10 years, life?).

Parker231 · 05/01/2021 17:41

Dog - my understanding is that this is the normal part of releasing any vaccine so shouldn’t impact on the the distribution to vaccination centres.

viques · 05/01/2021 17:41

@HipTightOnions

Did he just say “schools are safe”?
That’s a huge improvement, weren’t they “vectors of transmission” yesterday.
ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 05/01/2021 17:41

@HipTightOnions

Did he just say “schools are safe”?
Yep. I think his nose grew a bit as he said it.

I’m okay at BSL (my son is hearing impaired), sadly no swearing, but I would like it as well.
Dogatetheleftovers · 05/01/2021 17:41

Thanks Duncin I’ll have a look.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 05/01/2021 17:41

And that 1 in 50 is the ones we know about. He didn't mention anything about those who are symptomatic. Scary numbers and it's an unpopular opinion on here but as someone CEV I'm relieved that my dc are home and safe.

PurpleDaisies · 05/01/2021 17:41

@HipTightOnions

Did he just say “schools are safe”?
Dh and I were just scoffing at that.

They’re very safe now. There’s practically nobody there...

AmyFl · 05/01/2021 17:41

Yes he said schools are safe. 😕, he really hasn't got a clue.....

chomalungma · 05/01/2021 17:41

Alas

Takes drink Wine

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/01/2021 17:42

I think they are simultaneously safe and vectors of transmission.

LadyPenelope68 · 05/01/2021 17:42

Jeez! What drugs is he on!!!

Carlislemumof4 · 05/01/2021 17:42

From Michael Gove's comments earlier in the day and now this press conference, I'm expecting the summer term could be affected too.

Brilliant news about the BBC programming though, Bitesize saved homelearning for us last year!

myrtleWilson · 05/01/2021 17:42

@AaronPurr

The BBC are coming forward with 3 hours a day educational content. have we heard about this before? I'm seeing hints about longer school closures in every sentence. Considering this isn't already up and running it seems to be a big investment if the closures are only for 6 weeks.
Gove said this morning that the mid Feb point is to check vaccine roll out but that measures will begin to be lifted by end of March onwards I think
