So, Boris, Whitty and I think Vallance are doing a press briefing at 5 pm today.
Hope he's ready for some difficult questions!

@AaronPurr

Next few weeks and months... A possible hint that this could be a longer school closure than 6 weeks?
I’m not expecting schools to be normal until after the easter holidays, seven weeks is actually a very short time if you look at hospitisations in the first seven weeks of the first lockdown.

I had a bit of a dramatic cry about it last night, beer helped.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/01/2021 17:17

Just blatantly lying now.

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2021 17:17

The hard thing is not to zone out and actually hear his point

chomalungma · 05/01/2021 17:18

Unlike other politicians, he never asks for a follow up from the journalists.

PicsInRed · 05/01/2021 17:18

@chomalungma

He looks like he's aged so much.
He's just tired - Obama and Bush both looked wretched and they bounced back after a spell out of the Oval Office. He doesn't sound raspy and out of breath anymore, so that bodes well for his continuing recovery.
AaronPurr · 05/01/2021 17:18

The BBC are coming forward with 3 hours a day educational content. have we heard about this before? I'm seeing hints about longer school closures in every sentence. Considering this isn't already up and running it seems to be a big investment if the closures are only for 6 weeks.

Blacktothepink · 05/01/2021 17:21

What about the BBC? Does anyone know when it starts?

Didn't they claim that last time? Still seemed like every time the TV was switched on during the day, it was an antiques show, a property porn show or a benefits cheat show.

Not sure, last time it was available on the red button
AaronPurr · 05/01/2021 17:24

I thought it rang a bell never, but thought maybe I had been muddled up with Oak Academy.

From twitter

BREAKING BBC:

"The BBC is to deliver the biggest education offer in its history across more of its platforms."

From Monday January 11th, CBBC channel will feature three-hours of primary school shows to ensure that all kids can watch programming if they don't have the internet.

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2021 17:26

Good to have scientists back speaking well

DuncinToffee · 05/01/2021 17:26

More
BBC Two will focus for secondary school content to help students learning the GCSE curriculum. There will be two hours of lessons broadcast on television per day.

All of this will sit alongside the existing BBC Bitesize content, which will be available on the Red Button.

TonMoulin · 05/01/2021 17:30

Pupils won’t get back to school before Easter. That is if things go well enough.

Dogatetheleftovers · 05/01/2021 17:32

TonMoulin is that what they’ve just said re schools? My mind wandered.

MercyBooth · 05/01/2021 17:33

Measures for next winter???????????

Parker231 · 05/01/2021 17:34

Starting on Monday 11 January, each week day on CBBC will see a three-hour block of primary school programming from 9am, including BBC Live Lessons and BBC Bitesize Daily, as well as other educational programming such as Our School and Celebrity Supply Teacher and much loved titles such as Horrible Histories, Art Ninja and Operation Ouch.

BBC Two will cater for secondary students with programming to support the GCSE curriculum, with a least two hours of content each weekday.

Content will be built around Bitesize Daily secondary shows, complemented by Shakespeare and classic drama adaptations alongside science, history and factual titles from the BBC’s award-winning factual programming units.

Bitesize Daily primary and secondary will also air every day on BBC Red Button as well as episodes being available on demand on BBC iPlayer.

4 million vaccinations a week sounds unrealistic seeing as they've only managed 1 million in a month so far

Dogatetheleftovers · 05/01/2021 17:35

Why is Boris talking about the astra Zeneca vaccine needing to be batch tested? What does this mean?

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/01/2021 17:35

Wait, 1 in 50 people infected?
(Am distracted by getting tea ready, how very housewifey.)

Parker231 · 05/01/2021 17:36

Every batch of vaccine has to be individually checked before it is released.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/01/2021 17:36

I don't get any sense that he knows what he's talking about, Dog.

chomalungma · 05/01/2021 17:36

@FlibbertyGiblets

That's a lot of people.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/01/2021 17:36

Of course. I was pilloried for saying this last March, but this won't go away quickly. We may need a few vaccine tweaks, boosters even. It will not go away until.l we are all immune.

Look at measles etc.

We may be looking at some forms of covid actions for a few years to come. Though that may be like the flu jab rather than lockdowns.
