So, Boris, Whitty and I think Vallance are doing a press briefing at 5 pm today.
Hope he's ready for some difficult questions!

Alas again

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/01/2021 17:43

Alas, again

PicsInRed · 05/01/2021 17:44

"Final stretch", it's not the final stretch ffs - I appreciated Chris Whitty's honesty much more.

VinylDetective · 05/01/2021 17:44

That amounted to “We’re fucked”.

@CrunchyCarrot

He forgot to say 'alas' yesterday and is planning to make up for it today. Plus of course lots of graphs with upwards trajectories.

Sigh.

He did say "alas" right at the end - he must have forgotten in relief of it being over. Grin
cheezy · 05/01/2021 17:46

Oh shut up @LoudTree

herecomesthsun · 05/01/2021 17:46

@FlatteredRhubardFool

And that 1 in 50 is the ones we know about. He didn't mention anything about those who are symptomatic. Scary numbers and it's an unpopular opinion on here but as someone CEV I'm relieved that my dc are home and safe.
If that is from the ONS survey then that is a scientific sample extrapolated to the whole population.

So the 60k per day is the number that came to testing, but the real number is more like 150k (which over 7 days would be over 1 million). That I think is where the 1 in 50 comes from.

However, it's very variable, whether you are in the Scilly Isles or in London, say.

ihearttc · 05/01/2021 17:46

@LoudTree

Are you actually kidding me? Nobody will want to live like this for the foreseeable future, that’s not a future at all. There is going to come a point very very soon when everyone will have had enough. This is not sustainable.

Purpler5 · 05/01/2021 17:47

@LoudTree you’re talking rubbish!

flapjackfairy · 05/01/2021 17:47

@LoudTree
He didn't say all that at all! Talk about making it up as you go along.
Millions have died in previous pandemics and life resumed as normal at some point or other .

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/01/2021 17:47

It's the slide that showed the 1 in 50. Acorn.

LoudTree does this on every thread they post on

SnailortheWhale · 05/01/2021 17:48

Anyone else getting a bit bored of @LoudTree ‘hilariously’ trolling every thread with tales of doom. It’s dangerously nasty when so many peoples mental health is on the brink. Do you not realise that your trolling could actually tip someone over the edge to suicide? How does that make you feel, you utter piece of shit. Reporting all your posts from here.

52andblue · 05/01/2021 17:48

I note he did NOT say that Schools will be back before Summer hols.
Obvs he can't without a crystal ball, but that's not stopped him before.
I think it unlikely that he's learned his lesson re schools (see rubbish utterances about them 'being safe') so I think he really doesn't believe they might.

And no wonder. Going from 1:90 to 1:50 people infected in a wEEk??
And that's before The Great Christmas Mixing Experiment is factored in? Well, the point of the presser is to frighten people into compliance. I was compliant anyway but it's certainly scaring me!

Dadnotamum72 · 05/01/2021 17:48

The general gist of the reason they didn't decide 24hrs earlier is that everyone important was still on their xmas break/ weekend off and they didn't realise the seriousness of the situation until monday morning!!

Flowersinthewindowstill · 05/01/2021 17:48

@LoudTree is a goady troll taking delight in everyone's misery.

@Bickertown
He said no such thing .

AcornAutumn · 05/01/2021 17:49

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

It's the slide that showed the 1 in 50. Acorn.
Sorry, no access to a TV at the mo so I don't know 1 in 50 what.

1 in 50 expected to off themselves and Whitty and LoudTree pleased because it will help the NHS?

AaronPurr · 05/01/2021 17:49

Bickertown

He didn't say anything close to what Lemon has said. As others have said, the world has seen plenty of pandemics and life changes but not to the extent that you won't ever be able to see family and friends again. Please don't listen to Lemon's nonsense.

AaronPurr · 05/01/2021 17:50

Loud not Lemon
