Exercise is now once a day by law?

I’m confused. I thought Boris said it was unlimited. It definitely says once a day in the new lockdown guidance:

You can continue to exercise alone, with one other person or with your household or support bubble. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.You should maintain social distancing. See exercising and meeting other people.

@RaspberryCoulis, @Teateaandmoretea and @annevonkleve
France had similar numbers to the uk, they’re daily rate is now 4000.
You should want to aspire to it.
But you carry on keeping your freedom at the expense of others dying around you. 58000 new cases yesterday in the uk.

Thank God for French decisiveness.

I normally walk for around 1.5 to 2 hrs a day and did this before COVID. Before COVID some of that walking was going to meetings, going out on the Tube/train in the evenings, shopping, whatever, as I work from home, but now it is all 'exercise'. But I often go out for two shorter walks to fit in with my schedule. I promise you that my going out twice is exactly the same risk as going out once - except that every walk every day has a different and uncalculable risk as you don't know who you'll meet.

TwentyTwentyOne · 05/01/2021 13:14

I've stuck to everything along the way. I work as a key worker, I shop alone, I social distance, I have never taken an online shop and I haven't broken any rules whilst others, selfishly have done what they like leading us into this eternal hell.

But, only go out once a day.......NOPE.

I live in the countryside and I live next to a set of bridle paths and I will go out as many f*cking times as I like.

Realistically, limiting exercise to once a day will have zero impact on this.

bugwife9 · 05/01/2021 13:17

No one is going to notice if you do something utterly outrageous like go for two walks in one day

Twobrews · 05/01/2021 13:24

On a personal note I exercise regularly and have done since I was born.

Only since birth, I started in the womb Halo

Oreservoir · 05/01/2021 13:29

@PurpleDaisies I agree. I was responding to pp’s who were calling the French totalitarian nutters for enforcing the regulations regarding exercise. Btw in France we still have a curfew and no bars or restaurants open since October. It’s been harsh but it’s working.

@Sayitasitis2020

Sad, dumb country, when the government finally acknowledges that hospitals won't cope and people's reaction is "how can I bend the rules to be out as much as possible". Try not to have an accident while out. Just heard from a neighbour that they had to wait 3h for an ambulance and the lady ended up dying.
You could have an accident at home. The location of accident - home v e.g. playground, isn’t going to make any difference if there are no ambulances available.

@TwentyTwentyOne i hear you 🖐🏻.
Going out more than once a day , and aint adding to the statistics.

randomsabreuse · 05/01/2021 13:34

Scotland didn't limit exercise to once a day probably because the Scottish government have always considered mental health as well.

Being inside all day except 1 exercise window is horrible for mental health, even if you are doing PE with Joe and other exercise classes. It might also be people's only possible alone time, which is probably more important for my sanity than exercise!

@Skipsurvey

Those with autism should be able to get a letter allowing them leniency.
Who from?

@Oreservoir

Can you link me to where you are getting the 4000/day figure?

I am in France and the stats I am seeing are much higher than that per day?

Oreservoir · 05/01/2021 13:43

@UpShutTheFuck I just looked at the statistics France with the graph on.
The stats for 4th were just over 4000.

In my village, during the March lockdown, there seemed to be several people who reported anyone walking their dog more than once a day to the police Hmm .
UpShutTheFuck · 05/01/2021 14:00

Thank you for that @Oreservoir. Just had a look at the Worldometer data and it is indeed encouraging - the stats I had looked out were a few days behind!

I agree with you about the French decisiveness. Whatever the opinion about Macron, he is at least clear about what is going to happen and when. None of this wondering from day to day about what new systems will be pulled out of a hat.

The draft legislation has been published and as expected, no limit on the frequency or duration of exercise

In fact the list of reasonable excuses for leaving the house is exactly the same as under tier 4, except they have removed the ability to visit an outdoor place for recreational purposes (must be for exercise purposes - although how they police that I don’t know -how to distinguish between a recreational walk and an exercise walk??) and have remove the ability to cost outdoor attractions at zoos etc (moot point as they are all closed)

Oh gawd some of the ones on here will be absolutely devastated at not having a fantasy 1 hour rule to police. They'll be crying into their net curtains they were twitching.

Slightly OT but today Thames Valley Police left a notice on the car of a runner who had driven 2 miles for a run by the Thames.

Exercise is now once a day by law?
GhostPepperTears · 05/01/2021 19:08

Isn't that from last time (March)? I recall TVP had to make a public statement about how notices like this were left by a "well meaning but incorrect" individual and how this was not official policy?

PilatesPeach · 05/01/2021 19:09

nope today one of my colleagues informed me

GhostPepperTears · 05/01/2021 19:10

Then they are going to look like folls, methinks...
