I’m just so fed up. It feels like Groundhog Day now. Worried about business, worried about ds’s schooling. Doing dry January too - thinking about scraping that tbh. How’s everyone else doing?

@MrsMiaWallis

I hope the NHS claps our kids next Thursday.
I'd love to see something done for the children. They've been so good through all of this. To a child, a year is a VERY long time.
inquietant · 04/01/2021 22:00

@MrsMiaWallis

And I repeat. Schools were closed over Christmas and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference to the case rates.
Maybe you missed the news that over Christmas many people met up with family?

Rates would be even higher if schools had been open as well.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/01/2021 22:00

I cope with dark humour and irreverence. Here is my offering for those miffed with our government elect. Inappropriate levity?Possibly,but meh,sue me. You are welcome to the bones of my arse.....

"(Theme From) The Tories" (aka the Monkees)

Here we come, walkin'
Down the street
We get the funniest looks from
Ev'ry one we meet

Hey, hey, we're the Tories,
And people say we monkey around
You’ve been too busy mixing,
To put Covid 19 down

We go wherever we want
to do what we like to do
If we’re politicians
But it’s not for the likes of you

Hey, hey, we're the Tories
And people say we monkey around
But we're too busy scheming
To put Covid 19 down

We're just tryin' to make money
But you can’t sing and play
You’re the young generation
We won’t listen to what you say

Any time, Or anywhere
Just look over your shoulder
Marshalls will be standing there

Hey, hey, it’s a lockdown
And people say we’ve monkied around
We took too long to listen
And put Covid 19 down

[break]

Hey, hey, we're the Tories
And people say we haven’t a clue
But that won’t stop us blaming
All of the likes of you

We're just tryin' to be helpful
You can’t blame us for the delay
We're the guys with the science
And your job is compliance

Hey, hey, we're the Tories
Hey, hey, we're the Tories…….

@Seasaltyhair

I think Boris tried to do his best to make sure the country doesn’t go bankrupt - that’s why he kept kids off school. I’m sure he is well aware of the unemployment and bankruptcies that will come from this.

This was not an easy choice to make - especially when so many of us didn’t want schools to shut

You're joking right? Or you snorted some really powerful stuff!!

IF he really was about that he would have partially reopened schools only in Sept and delayed brexit.

As PM he should not be swayed what the masses want IN A PANDEMIC! Masses do not have the knowledge. So in a sense their opinions should not matter. Experts should be laying out the path. and independent ones, that are not connected to politicians and don't get paid by the gov.

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2021 22:01

@Flaxmeadow

It was, I am angry how the government have insisted that children go in today, when everyone for a least the last week have been saying they need to close schools.

If it was obvious to all of them, why was it not obvious to our Government?

What is the point of carping on about the past from the sidelines. Whatever the Govt we currently have. There isn't one

Do people think a Labour Gov't would have been any different? Seriously

The UK has pretty much done what most Govts have done in the western world

Starmer, to his credit,, has backed each major decision our Gov't has made. Even Corbyn did and as much as I disliked Corbyn, if he had been in power, I would have backed him too, because that's what needs to be done in this terrible situation

Whatever your political persuasion. It's time to get behind the rules, to try our best to stick by what we are being advised to do.

This is a CRISIS

Really no. This government have been terrible and we need to be able to hold them to account.

Most importantly we need to do things differently.

So we need to start getting schools organised for a safer re-opening later this year.

it's really important that we do this to scientific principles (WHO guidelines which are the best advice we have).

It's really important that scientific understanding is going to help.

And the government have to get behind this because if they don't it will take even longer to open up again.

They also need to listen to SAGE more.

lolaflores · 04/01/2021 22:02

I've popped a valium and am pushing the world right out to the edges of my mind. Just for tonight I am going to br a wee bit numb.
I have t smoked in 4 years. Not had a drink for 9. Found out recently my immune system is fuckerooed causing many interesting outcomes
So just fuck it all for now.
To.orrow I shall think about stuff. Tonight I simply cant or I shall start screaming.
Please let's not all fight each other. Let's ignore the idiots and try and comfort those in the most dire straits.
And Boris?
Oh, he'll get his in the fullness of time for how he has made such a thundering cack platter of it when he could have made many better decisions.

Tara336 · 04/01/2021 22:02

@GetOffYourHighHorse so I can jump in my car and go for a drive and not be stopped by the police and questioned? Because not only myself but two colleagues had exactly that happen in last lockdown, when we were perfectly legally driving to and from work. That has never happened to myself or anyone I know before. I have no faith in Boris anymore and I am sick to death of “living” like this, it’s not a life it’s existing. Im absolutely done with this.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 22:03

Experts not linked to government?

No funding?
No think-tanks?
No COBR, SAGE etc?
No Public Health boards?
No WHO?

OK!!!

This is a CRISIS

I get this is a crisis but as other more intelligent posters have already said, this could have been stopped.

I gave this government the benefit of the doubt last March, but now they are just repeating their mistakes.

But its not just posters on MNs that were saying this was a mistake, the government ignored unions, teachers, headteachers, scientists etc. Who were they listening to over the weekend when people were screaming to close the schools and no, I won't stop holding this government to account.

I have stuck to the rules, I haven't seen my family in nearly a fucking year, I live half an hour away from some of them, I am that fucking close and yet we have all been following the rules, we stayed in, washed our hands, we try and get home deliveries where can and when we can't we wear a mask, stay 2m away from people. we are being a very good compliant family and then we get to watch from the sidelines, people being encouraged to eat out to help out and go flying off for their skiing holidays.

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 22:06

likeamillpond
Hmmm School? Maybe they’ll get 2 hrs in the entire six months like last time as a well done Hmm ;

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2021 22:06

@MistressoftheDarkSide

they really aren't the guys with the science though

they really aren't

they are the guys with the half baked ideas and the scientists are standing there looking pained and not able to say what they really think

chaosrabbitland · 04/01/2021 22:06

whats getting to me is the bit about depending on the vaccine roll out the lockdown could last longer , and depending on the new strain variation . so if the rollout gets cocked up the usual way everything else does ,we could still potentially be prisoners until march or longer , or if the sudden oh the vaccine is not as effective as we thought on new strain , just stay in for another 6 months whilst its tweaked !!! its never ending and iv got no hope left now of it getting any better , i tryed to stay positive for a long time .but its all gone now , i just have to maintain it for my 12 yr old . its honestly starting to get to me i just feel we are being bloody lied to for ulterior motives . the more i read about the tin foil on save our rights facebook , the more sometimes they seem to have valid points , maybe thats what this has driven me to

angelhorror · 04/01/2021 22:07

@Sobeyondthehills

WE can all DO that

@DuchessofDerbyshire

No, we all can't do that. Over three 3 million people been without help for nearly a year now. My mental health is in the fucking toilet, I have friends only just clinging on by their fingertips.

Another 6 weeks for those who live in flats, barely have any food in, living on the poverty line.

We are all in the same fucking storm, but while some are on cruise ships, the others are in a fucking rubber dingy with a hole, using a sieve to bail out the water

We can all do it because what choice do we have?
Redbrickwall · 04/01/2021 22:09

@chaosrabbitland
I totally agree with you Sad

Longpinknails · 04/01/2021 22:09

So many on MN were gloating that they were not going to follow the rules of not seeing family and friends at Christmas....It’s those that you should all be angry with, not the Government.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/01/2021 22:09

@herecomesthsun Ah,but I never said they weren't delusional Winkand I agree entirely.

Flaxmeadow · 04/01/2021 22:10

Really no. This government have been terrible and we need to be able to hold them to account.

Just like every country in the world. We have been dealt these cards, whoever was/is/could have been in charge. We have a Tory Gov't, that is not going to change anytime soon. Every major decision this Govt have made has been backed by the opposition. Every rule, every lockdown, across the world, has been more or less the same, in our desperate attempts to save health services.

This is a crisis. No Govt asked for this. No Govt, left or right, wanted this. Hold them to account, but see the bigger picture. See that policy is universal. It's a bastard little virus and it won't let go. That's our enemy, not each other

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 22:12

@Longpinknails yes yes and yes, those fools that thought not having Christmas was the end of the fucking world.

Should be ashamed of themselves they put Christmas before SAVING LIVES. Dimwits

BungleandGeorge · 04/01/2021 22:13

Just to cheer everyone up apparently the brexit deal which was voted on with less than 24 hours for appraisal by MPs has all sorts of clauses which allow the government extra powers in all sorts of areas. Brilliant! Wondering where I can move to...

Dee1975 · 04/01/2021 22:13

I feel worried too op. Seems so depressing. (I’ve been positive pretty much the whole time ). 7 weeks children off school (at least). I worry about business, the economy. The after effects. I suppose last time it was all a bit exciting. Working from home etc .. just a pain in the backside now!

Does this new lockdown mean hotels will be closed too?

BungleandGeorge · 04/01/2021 22:17

On the positive side support bubbles, childcare bubbles allowed. Playgrounds open, takeaways open, public places open. It’s cold and miserable outside. It’s not as bad as last time.

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 22:18

@southeastdweller 👍

Poppingnostopping · 04/01/2021 22:18

I don't feel delighted to be stuck in with my two, but I can accept it as necessary.

One thing- a poster said they don't have a laptop for their child, you need to let the school know that asap, they are very motivated to try to get technology rolled out, and even if they don't have the solution straight away (and may will) they then know you are on the list for that. People must let the schools know their needs, whether it be they don't have the internet, don't have a device/computer, or whatever, both my children's schools will help with this, even though I know they don't have infinite resources.
