I’m just so fed up. It feels like Groundhog Day now. Worried about business, worried about ds’s schooling. Doing dry January too - thinking about scraping that tbh. How’s everyone else doing?
@GetOffYourHighHorse yes it's a crisis when people cannot earn a fucking living and the government aren't paying them to shut shop.

It's a crisis that kids are NOT being properly educated.
That's what I said. It's a crisis. So therefore don't be dramatic about 'human rights' when restrictions are there to protect us, not punish us.

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:48

@MrsMiaWallis same. It's not acceptable.

People keep saying hospitals will get full - what if some of us are happy to take that risk? Why is that so other worldly?

Why is it weird some of us want our lives/kids lives to not be fucked up for something we are willing to take our chances with?

BubblyBarbara · 04/01/2021 21:48

I think Boris tried to do his best to make sure the country doesn’t go bankrupt - that’s why he kept kids off school.

Eh? People can actually get work done and keep the economy going if kids are in school. Now it'll be billions more in furlough.

whattodo2019 · 04/01/2021 21:48

@HumphreyCobblers

I am gutted. Have a seven year old with SN and lockdown is terrible for him, absolutely awful. He needs the variation of school or of going out and about - he has little language and no sense of narrative so cannot watch tv, read books, play imaginary games, draw/paint or access online learning in any meaningful way. At least in the last one he could play outside most of the day.

I could absolutely cry. He regressed so much last time.

I'm so sorry to read your post. As your DC has special needs can he not still attend his school?
MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 21:48

@MrsMiaWallis

My kids are lucky and very privileged. Nice home, good school, garden. But today I realised that this is going to damage their mental health. They are going to suffer. And so many kids have it worse.

I can't bear it.

I know what you mean. Unbearable.
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 04/01/2021 21:48

If only we were a police stare as at least 70k-80k+ former Brits may be still around and not perished before their time.

If only we were a police state then the blasé Covidiots would be eradicated and stopped from further super mutating super spreading devastation! Who do you think may most scientifically likely be the asymptomatic super spreaders? Covid patients stuck in ICU or those with no symptoms and not following any rules nor civic duty of care to protect the vulnerable etc?

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:48

@GetOffYourHighHorse I take it you live a privileged life because if not I think you'd think very differently.

Flaxmeadow · 04/01/2021 21:48

It was, I am angry how the government have insisted that children go in today, when everyone for a least the last week have been saying they need to close schools.

If it was obvious to all of them, why was it not obvious to our Government?

What is the point of carping on about the past from the sidelines. Whatever the Govt we currently have. There isn't one

Do people think a Labour Gov't would have been any different? Seriously

The UK has pretty much done what most Govts have done in the western world

Starmer, to his credit,, has backed each major decision our Gov't has made. Even Corbyn did and as much as I disliked Corbyn, if he had been in power, I would have backed him too, because that's what needs to be done in this terrible situation

Whatever your political persuasion. It's time to get behind the rules, to try our best to stick by what we are being advised to do.

This is a CRISIS

Lovemusic33 · 04/01/2021 21:49

Trying to stay positive and thinking ‘this is the beginning of the end’, my Nan has been called up for her vaccine which for me is a positive, I haven’t seen her for a year despite her living just up the road, she’s now feeling positive so I am too.

I’m not looking forward to home schooling, dd2 refuses to do any work and self harms when I try and get her to do anything, she has ASD but works really well at school but I can’t for the life of me get her to do work at home, so it’s back to trying to do fun things that are educational such as cooking and crazy science experiments.

whattodo2019 · 04/01/2021 21:49

@Levirandal

I’m really not sure I can cope with two special needs kids at home - one requires constantly supervision, a teen, my job and my dh working. I just about held it together last time but if we stand a chance I might be begging the school to take the kids even for a bit. I can’t homeschool either of the two with special needs as they struggle to work at home. I don’t know where the light at the end of the tunnel even is.
are your children not able to continue attending school due to their needs?
Lastfreakinglegs · 04/01/2021 21:50

Yep. I’ll work full time whilst homeschooling two children, failing at both my job (who give no shits) and parenting

This in a nutshell.

Nat6999 · 04/01/2021 21:50

Be interesting on 19 January when Trump is rumoured to be flying in to Prestwick, will he be allowed in or not?

BubblyBarbara · 04/01/2021 21:50

People keep saying hospitals will get full - what if some of us are happy to take that risk?

Ridiculous. The hospitals are over capacity then what if you get chest pain and collapse on your daily walk? Sorry caller, there's no point in sending out a paramedic to you as they're all at the hospital, and no point in sending an ambulance as there's nowhere for you to go. Please make yourself comfortable on the ground as you pass away.

WilsonMilson · 04/01/2021 21:50

@whereismormonjesus sorry what? I didn’t say anything about care staff etc? Was your comment aimed at me?

inquietant · 04/01/2021 21:52

@MrsMiaWallis

I hope the NHS claps our kids next Thursday.
FFS - NHS staff are putting themselves at risk every single shift right now.

Monkeymilkshake · 04/01/2021 21:53

I am just panicking! My DDs preschool decided to stay shut until 11th jan before xmas. I just dont know if they are going to open. It's a small preschool.
My DD is 3 and really enjoys going there and playing with the kids.
I can teach her letters, numbers etc but i can't replace her little friends. What impact will it have in her if she can't play with other kids!? Will she just be bored? Will she suffer when she starts school in september?! It's such a loss for the little ones.
I'm just really panicking and there is nothing i can do. Confused

NorbertMeubles · 04/01/2021 21:54

To all those who are saying it's not Boris blah blah blah. What the fuck. He is a liar. He is playing with people's lives. And don't get me started on his defense of Dominic fucking Cummings.

etopp · 04/01/2021 21:54

@NothingIsWrong

If the kids didn't need me, I would be very close to opting out completely.
Same here.
GetOffYourHighHorse · 04/01/2021 21:55

'take it you live a privileged life because if not I think you'd think very differently.'

What's that got to do with it. You said our human rights were being ripped away iirc, I pointed out its an escalating crisis so further action is needed sadly.

'People keep saying hospitals will get full - what if some of us are happy to take that risk? Why is that so other worldly?'

Hospital are over full in the South and its heading north rapidly. It isnt your decision to make if you think we should all just crack on and ignore the dire consequences. Don't get me wrong I'm as pissed off as the next person but I totally understand the need for tighter restrictions.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 21:56

What does that have to do with the realities of a global pandemic?

Parochial politics don't have a place in a global crisis.

WilsonMilson · 04/01/2021 21:57

Well, I think we’re all in the same boat really. There’s a sense of anger and incredulity about sitting watching the same speech as we were hearing 10 months ago and wondering how long we can sustain living like this?!

On top of that I’m fearful of the virus, especially for members of the family who are vulnerable - my elderly parents who are alone at the other end of the country and I feel powerless to help. Also desperately sad for those who have already lost loved ones, grateful to those who put their lives at risk to care for patients and to keep the essential businesses afloat, and very concerned about my husband’s business survival and ds’s GCSEs.

It’s hard to think of a worse time than this for us all. Thinking of everyone who’s in the same boat and has contributed to this thread. You’re not alone!

OP posts:
MrsMiaWallis · 04/01/2021 21:57

And I repeat. Schools were closed over Christmas and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference to the case rates.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 21:57

My last was for Norbert - if that wasn't obvious!!

Flaxmeadow · 04/01/2021 21:58

To all those who are saying it's not Boris blah blah blah. What the fuck. He is a liar. He is playing with people's lives. And don't get me started on his defense of Dominic fucking Cummings.

The opposition has backed Govt policy on every single major decision they have made.

We need to stop whining, move forward, stick to the rules, stop political point scoring, and deal with it
