From this it seems the plan is to close schools in tier 4 areas but what about pupils and staff who live in other tiers and commute in?

pinkpetal2. I think he said only in areas with very high transmission (assuming London and SE). But that something will be published later to clarify.

Beebityboo · 30/12/2020 16:28

Legally forcing us to send our young children out to be infected is criminal. I'm disabled and now have no fucking idea what I'm going to do.

Jenasaurus · 30/12/2020 16:28

Are nurserys also closing

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/12/2020 16:29

I'm tier 4 as of tomorrow but with a rate of 170 per 100k I'm hoping DS should be back in on Monday. Thank god.

SquirmOfEels · 30/12/2020 16:29

This is as clear as mud right now, and very uninspired speaking

Hardbackwriter · 30/12/2020 16:29
@GoldGreen I’m sorry but I don’t think those reasons are justified - there isn’t that much difference between preschool and year R in terms of leaving children unsupervised and risk, parents of school age children are also at risk of not being able to work, and I think nursery transmission has been similar to KS1, mostly ok in most parts of the country, but as soon as one child becomes unwell the spread is fast and inevitable.
Do you really think the average 18 month old and the average 5 year old need the same level of supervision?

RaffertyBear · 30/12/2020 16:29

@CanICelebrate does your son have to take GCSEs early? Why not just let him sit them in Year 11?

Meredithgrey1 · 30/12/2020 16:29

@JacobReesMogadishu

No way would I send a kid of mine to school. If it’s not safe for me to leave the home it’s not safe for my child to go to school.
Not everyone has the ability to choose though. I’m happy to send DD to nursery but if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t have a choice. Work isn’t going to let DH and I just decide we’re going to work fewer/different hours because we’ve decided we want to keep DD home.
Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 16:29

Had already decided not to send my 4.5 yo back anyway. We are in London.

KilljoysDutch · 30/12/2020 16:30

@Beebityboo I imagine my children will be spending their time at home self isolating at least for the first 2 weeks back.

Littlemiss74 · 30/12/2020 16:30

I feel so anxious - I have been advised to shield, sent a letter etc, and yet I have to send my dd8 in to school from Monday in area where the virus is
rife. I feel scared & my anxiety is growing🙁 I can’t understand how this makes any sense

pinkpetal2 · 30/12/2020 16:31

@HibernatingTill2030 Thanks. I was kind of hoping they'd close for us, I'm just not sure how I feel about it all. I want to keep them home but then again I don't Blush

Nonamesavail · 30/12/2020 16:31

I kinda want them to stay open. Bit torn.

Keep them off then
ProfessorPootle · 30/12/2020 16:31

They could have published the list where primaries aren’t going back, we’re in London, cases are increasing rapidly in our borough. Need to know if kids will be home next week. We fall through the gaps of all the government help as we own ltd companies. I struggle to work with kids at home!

BangingOn · 30/12/2020 16:31

Same here! Actually the same rate as some tier 3 areas so hopefully not enough to close the schools.
Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 16:31

Supervision maybe not but my 4.5 yo I would say requires as much input as he did when he was 18 months. He was never the kind of kid to stick fingers in plugs etc and he was as happy to watch cbeebies then as he is now.

At least at 18 months he wasn't talking 24/7!!!!

year5teacher · 30/12/2020 16:31

What I don’t get is how other countries seem to manage to shut schools completely, even for key workers. Their economies must really suffer, surely?

Anyway, the government are saying majority of primaries must open but doing absolutely sweet fuck all to facilitate that actually happening so expect absolute chaos and bubbles closing constantly, even more so than before. Which, let’s be frank, will also be disruptive to your childcare.

Of course I want schools open but I am beginning to feel that it’s just not going to be physically possible.

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 16:32

If they don't close London schools with rates as they are they are negligent.

TanglinOrchards · 30/12/2020 16:32

I am so torn also.

wizzbangfizz · 30/12/2020 16:32

I've read it as the majority of primaries in all areas will open, and quite right too.

HibernatingTill2030 · 30/12/2020 16:32

People need to know now! I expect there are lots of key workers who will need to make arrangements/change shifts around - of course they can send them in as key worker places, but what about after school care etc?
Beebityboo · 30/12/2020 16:32

Not quite as simple as just "keep them off then" is it Hmm

tearsandtiaras · 30/12/2020 16:32

Anyone know where the published list of schools is ? really unfair that we are kept left waiting !!!!!

the80sweregreat · 30/12/2020 16:33

Is there a list of schools staying shut?
