From this it seems the plan is to close schools in tier 4 areas but what about pupils and staff who live in other tiers and commute in?

@SquirmOfEels

This is as clear as mud right now, and very uninspired speaking
Yes. I can't follow The Boy Gav at best but he's hopeless today.

Is it: Primary as normal.
Y11 off till 11th and all others back on 18th??

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 16:33

They said they would announce areas where schools will shut later.

Posturesorposes · 30/12/2020 16:34

The title of this thread doesn’t really apply now does it..... the overwhelming majority of tier 4 primary schools are going to open on Monday.

HibernatingTill2030 · 30/12/2020 16:35

@tearsandtiaras

Anyone know where the published list of schools is ? really unfair that we are kept left waiting !!!!!
He said it would be on the Dept for Ed website- nothing yet, though as far as I can see.
TableFlowerss · 30/12/2020 16:35

@Beebityboo

Not quite as simple as just "keep them off then" is it Hmm
It is that simple. They’ve got enough on their plates than to be be penalising disabled parents for choosing to keep their child at home - if they feel safer and under the circumstances!
tappitytaptap · 30/12/2020 16:36

@Seriouslymole totally agree. ‘Keyworker’ is a bit of a stupid phrase here. The private sector pays taxes to fund the public sector. Telling the parents in the private sector they have to sacrifice jobs whilst those in the public sector could keep them is very short sighted, don’t you think?

Flamingolingo · 30/12/2020 16:36

@Hardbackwriter - they need different supervision, but I know that I have been able to get roughly similar work done with the kids at home from that age up (i.e. hardly any except for when they can be occupied by the TV). I have my WFH pattern sorted now, it’s fairly gruelling, but it’s basically get some work done while they are watching tv, spend most of the day with them, and then do the rest either early in the morning or late at night (usually both). But younger children nap also.

If we are talking about working out of the house then they basically have identical need - i.e. they can’t be left on their own at all.

RedToothBrush · 30/12/2020 16:36

@the80sweregreat

Is there a list of schools staying shut?
Yes.

But its not been made yet. Gav is still making it up.

callistography · 30/12/2020 16:36

I'm so angry. As a CV teacher I'm basically being thrown under a bus. Bastards

quirkyquails · 30/12/2020 16:37
@Emmie12345 Year 11s are going in, in all areas.
So they are taking the age group who are most likely to get it in the same way that adults do but who are less likely to be vaccinated and sending them in to schools to spread it willy nilly amongst adults who are a low priority for vaccination because the government lack the backbone to make the right decision about the exams and about vaccination?

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 16:37

Besides mass testing is all well and good but what about primary children?

Flamingolingo · 30/12/2020 16:37

But note - I’m not saying schools should open because nurseries can. I’m saying neither should open and we should focus on vaccinating the vulnerable for at least the next month.

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 16:37

@the80sweregreat

Is there a list of schools staying shut?
To be announced on Sunday evening.
Beebityboo · 30/12/2020 16:37

@tableflowerss try telling the head that. I've already been told I'll be fined Sad

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 16:38

Ffs - Sunday evening?!?!

Ohbabybab · 30/12/2020 16:38

I’ve asked for the thread title to be changed

nougatsquirrel · 30/12/2020 16:38

Do you have the website link for DoE page where you think it might be announced?

SatsumasOrClementines · 30/12/2020 16:39

@Seriouslymole of course. What you’re saying is not new.

What is new though are three things;
Firstly, the new strain. This makes schools substantially more risky places to be.
Secondly, there’s a new testing system on the way for schools. But it’s not here yet: in Tier 4 areas it makes sense to wait just slightly longer for this to be ready before sending everyone back.
Thirdly, there’s a vaccine on the way. Teachers could be part of the priority group. Again, it makes sense to wait for this before sending everyone back in T4 areas.

I’m not saying schools should stay closed forever, I’m saying prepare properly first, make the schools safer, and then reopen. Lives are at stake.

ofwarren · 30/12/2020 16:39

@Char2015
Where did you read it would be Sunday evening?

Passmeabottlemrjones · 30/12/2020 16:39

@Lairyfightzzzz

Ffs - Sunday evening?!?!
I think that was a joke! Grin
HibernatingTill2030 · 30/12/2020 16:39

Sunday evening?! What about the parents expecting to take their children to school on Monday to go to work?
Absolutely outrageous to give around 12 hours notice.
I suppose anyone in London, Essex, Kent, etc should prepare to be closed, though.

tearsandtiaras · 30/12/2020 16:40

char2015 what is your source it will be told to us on sunday evening?

I can'f find anything to verify that

HibernatingTill2030 · 30/12/2020 16:40

Ah sorry- sarcasm reader is off due to stress!

KilljoysDutch · 30/12/2020 16:40
@tableflowerss try telling the head that. I've already been told I'll be fined Sad
We've been told the same. They even sent out an attendance officer who wanted to see my childs prescription for a simple stomach bug?! We weren't going to waste doctors time with that. He didn't wear a bloody mask either.

KilljoysDutch · 30/12/2020 16:41

@nougatsquirrel

Do you have the website link for DoE page where you think it might be announced?
Should go up here :
