CEV won’t be fully protected until May onwards 😕

Woke up to news that Oxford has been approved - great!

The entire family were hoping this might mean my CEV parents would be fully protected in February, as the online calculator showed they would be called for their first jab at the end of January (had Oxford vaccinations started last week of Dec).

But now that they are introducing a 12 week wait between both jabs, they won’t receive their first jab until early Feb and won’t get full protection until their second jab in early May.

I just can’t believe this.

This bastard fucking nightmare feels never ending.

OP posts:
Eyewhisker · 30/12/2020 12:28

OP - please read the underlying scientific papers. There is almost no difference in protection after the second dose, it just means it lasts longer. 21 days after AZ or 12 days after Pfizer gives almost as much protection as you will ever get.

If you don’t believe me, look at this chart from the Pfizer study which tracks covid infections after first dose. For the first 11 days, there were virtually the same infections in the vaccine and control group. After 11 days, there were almost no infections in the vaccine group. This is as close to a perfect result as is imaginable.

CEV won’t be fully protected until May onwards 😕

@MichelleScarn

Are people reading the part of the thread where *@Cyclingwidow15* has apologised and accepted that they've been had? Clearly not or they have and are just enjoying a wee pile on!
Thread is to long already to read every post.

Glad poster has admitted they were wrong. That barely ever happened on here. I am actually impressed Smile

JacobReesMogadishu · 30/12/2020 12:39

My friend who is CEV and in her 50s is getting her first vaccination today and has an appt for her 2nd one already.

Fleshlumpeater · 30/12/2020 12:39

Cyclingwidows little story just illustrates to me the danger of social media and fake news. It should be obvious that a bank worker hasn’t had the vaccine privately but this was just believed because a friend told them so and not only believed but then passed on as truth.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 12:39

Does she work for the NHS?

Moondust001 · 30/12/2020 12:47

Wow I did not expect that response at all and just for the record I am pro vaccination and not an anti vaxer. I’m in the UK and this is genuine, they work for a bank and have been getting private weekly tests for all staff as well as being offered the vaccine and yes they have tested positive after the first dose. I’m sorry if I offended anyone that was not the intention of my post. I’m really annoyed at this person for selfishly taking up a vaccine that they didn’t need when there are so many CEV including my own parents who are nowhere near getting the vaccine and are having to shield until it’s safe to come out.[/quote]
Then they are lying to you. It never happened. There are no vaccine supplies available privately for purchase anywhere legally. UK or anywhere else. To have privately bought supplies they would need to have undertaken an illegal transaction. So name the bank. Easy to verify this story, and if the offer is being made to all staff, then hardly outing. Banks employ many thousands of staff.

Thanks @MilesJuppIsAnOldSlutOnJunk

Have you seen the latest statement from Blood Cancer UK? It acknowledges blood cancer increases the risk from Covid more than just about every other comorbidity (hope you’re OK!) and suggests that it’s likely we will be monitored to see how we respond, with aim of furthering understanding both generally and specifically to see if one type of vaccine should be preferred over others for us

She wouldn't be a priority unless she works in a care home or nhs.

Israel are the black line.

"Israel is just nine days into its Covid-19 vaccination drive and already it has inoculated 5.7 per cent of its population –more than five times the 1.2 per cent reached in Britain.

More Israelis have now been vaccinated than have caught the virus and that includes more than 25 per cent of those aged 60 and above.

Such is the power of the world’s fastest vaccination drive, it is predicted that the proportion of over 60s among the critically ill will drop from 70 per cent to just 20 per cent by mid-January. "

Can we copy whatever it is that they are doind?

We should do. But, important to note Israel only has a population of around 9 million people (around 7 million if you take out the U-18s) , compared to our 67 million+ and a much smaller land area. Also has one of the largest armies due to conscription (25 military personnel per 1,000 people) in the world- very easy for them to mobilise the military to roll out. (UK has 3.6 M.P per 1,000 people for comparison)
JacobReesMogadishu · 30/12/2020 13:11

@Belladonna12. She works as a GP secretary. So I guess that counts as nhs priority. 🤷‍♀️ Though I know loads of nurses, etc who are actually hands on patient care who haven’t had it. But I’m pleased she is getting it be she is vulnerable.

2bedammed · 30/12/2020 13:12

What does CEV stand for ? Thanks in advance!

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2020 13:13

Clinically extremely vulnerable

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 30/12/2020 13:13

My friend is a dentist who has been told she can make an appointment to have the vaccine because she is “front line”.

She has decided not to do it for now. She is under 35 and has no underlying health conditions. She feels strongly that there are people out there who need it more than she does.

I really hope she doesn’t live to regret that decision (but it’s unlikely).

CancerCovidQuestion · 30/12/2020 13:18

@iVampire pleased to hear there will be additional monitoring for blood cancer patients. Let's hope the vaccines come quickly now!
I've seen a trial for those with compromised immune systems for some alternative (not a vaccine? Can't recall details!) type of protection, I'm going to ask my oncologist when I'm at the clinic next week whether I might be able to volunteer.
It is a frightening time for sure and god knows I wish I hadn't had the news I have stage 3 breast cancer in the middle of a global pandemic but overall the vaccine science gives me hope. What amazing humans the medics and scientists dealing with all this are.
Hope you're ok OP, we just all have to hold on for this last bit longer xx

Yes, frontline workers are quite annoyed about admin staff getting it. Obviously good if she is CEV though.

CancerCovidQuestion · 30/12/2020 13:20

I am glad admin staff are getting it too, I see plenty of admin staff when I ho to the hospital and they're a necessary part of keeping things going I'd have thought!

I don't ho there Xmas Smile

I hadn't seen that! Having a Christmas break from the bleakness.

I'll have a look.

All ok here thanks: hope you had an ok Christmas Xmas Smile

I am 56 CEV, I will happily wait twelve weeks and settle for a half a life, because it is better than the one I have now.

I have a home, a roof, food in the fridge etc., but no life.

I have a teenager who has gone nocturnal and I can't call him on it, as I have nothing to offer him in its place.

So half a life for a lot of people will be better than nothing.

Quite a few admin staff have been working at home though.
FinallyFluid · 30/12/2020 13:51

Then surely this puts them in a position to go back into work.

Pootle40 · 30/12/2020 13:55

@DianaT1969

🤔 I can't see your point. They'll get the first vaccine soon (which affords some protection) and delaying the 2nd jab makes it more effective overall. There isn't any bad news here. Bad news would have been that it wasn't approved.
Totally. Best news we've had all year ...I don't see any negatives. We're never going to be 100% safe same as flu vaccine.
