@PurpleDaisies so you’re not really getting used to it

Agree everyone is different but my point being is if they get mandated that you have to wear them everywhere don’t worry because you do get used to them

You’re really not getting it. I am wearing a mask everywhere it is compulsory. I have done for months and months and months. It is no less unpleasant now than at the beginning. I hate not seeing people’s faces so I can lipread.

You seem to think you know how I feel better than I do myself which is a really arrogant position to take.

NotTerfNorCis · 29/12/2020 14:57

I didn't used to, but a week ago I went to a town centre and found it was full of people (not surprising just before Christmas) of whom at least 3 were walking about coughing... So I put my mask on. We're Tier 3.

CaptainSandy · 29/12/2020 14:59

God no.

Funkypolar · 29/12/2020 15:04

No.

Calmandmeasured1 · 29/12/2020 15:08

Yes. As this is an airborne virus and the latest strain is more transmissable, I prefer not to take chances. You only have to watch a smoker or see breath in very cold weather to see it travels more than 6' 6".

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 29/12/2020 15:11

@PurpleDaisies up to you how you choose to read it. I was trying to be reassuring

It is no point reassuring people by telling them something that isn’t necessarily true.

MMM2 · 29/12/2020 15:12

Goes on when leaving the house, comes off when I return home, cant be doing with on/off in and out off shops, and now its just become a habit.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 29/12/2020 15:13

@PurpleDaisies you seem very defensive and upset - are you alright hun?

PurpleDaisies · 29/12/2020 15:14

Once again, please stop trying to tell me how I feel, hun.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/12/2020 15:18

I’ll go out even less than I do now if they become mandatory outside. If they do and there’s no one around the mask will be coming off, I’m not wearing one when it’s not necessary.

PurpleDaisies · 29/12/2020 15:19

But don’t you think you’ll just get used to it PinkSparklyPussyCat Wink

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/12/2020 15:22

I doubt it, claustrophobia and masks don’t go well together! I’m sure some posters would have had me shot for taking my mask off when I felt faint!

RaspberryCoulis · 29/12/2020 15:47

@IJumpedAboardAPirateShip

For everyone saying they can’t bear them, you do get used to wearing them
You might. I have been wearing them everywhere that has enforced mask wearing like supermarkets at the GPs since summer. Still hate them Still wear them for the very minimum time possible.

Still actively avoiding places like museums/cinema/other activities which make you wear a mask as they suck any pleasure out of being there. They are awful and unbearable for more than about 15 minutes.

Agree with others - i have one blue and white surgical mask rattling around in my bag along with my phone, purse and everything else. It's been there at least a fortnight. Another in the door pocket of the car. Hardly anyone is doing masks "properly" by sanitising, putting them on, removing with straps, putting in a plastic bag, sanitising your hands, throwing away or washing - it's purely performance and fine-avoiding.

GawdrestyeJerryMentlemen · 29/12/2020 15:52

It is not performance. It is taking care around other people by capturing particles in my breath. I can't believe how many selfish people are hanging around here. May you all just breathe on each other and not me!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/12/2020 16:33

@RaspberryCoulis you’ve reminded me I need to go through my pockets and bags and put any random masks in the wash!

QueenoftheAir · 29/12/2020 16:34

Yes, on the high street (Tier 2 here). Most people in this town wear a mask on the high street. I take it off when I get to quieter streets.

It's showing respect & care for my fellow citizens.

I wouldn’t get within 5m of you, so I won’t breathe on you don’t worry. I prefer to just stay away from people.

I have worn them wherever I’ve needed to for months. I still detest them.

Ginfordinner · 29/12/2020 16:46

No. But then I don’t go anywhere busy.

Same here. As it is cold I can't avoid steaming up my glasses outside regardless of the style of mask I wear. I always wear one in shops, and wash it after every use.

Topseyt · 29/12/2020 16:59

No. Not all of us can get used to them. I get the sensation of needing to gasp for breath after just a few minutes and I will never get used to that.

They also cause my glasses to steam up big time, so I can't see what I am doing or where I am going either indoors or outside. Maybe that might improve when the weather gets warmer, I don't know. For now though, if I am wearing a mask anywhere I am virtually blind.

No. I will never get used to any of that.

Kaliorphic · 29/12/2020 17:04

No, unless I'm planning to rob a bank and don't want to be captured by the security cameras. (Joking obviously)

Surely a balaclava would class as a face covering? Grin

Really?

I strongly suspect that 99% of those wearing them in the street do so because they think it protects themselves rather than any altruism for others
