Be cause I pass people on the street, they pass me. Keeping 2 m away from others on our high st or at a bus stop is pretty well impossible. I don't want to infect and kill people.
I still won't wear one. Outdoor transmission very unlikely and round here you can often go out and meet virtually no-one.

Viruses mutate all the time. That isn't unique to Covid 19.

tappitytaptap · 28/12/2020 18:25

No other than for outside school/nursery drop off where they ask you to.

Topseyt · 28/12/2020 18:27

@Skipsurvey

i dont because i vape, but if people start crowding outside the chippy as they do i might wear one in future. plus i was thinking today they stop your nose from running.
I find that wearing a mask makes my nose run like a tap. Steams my glasses up too no matter which sort of mask I wear or how carefully it is positioned and fitted.
GlowingOrb · 28/12/2020 18:31

If I will encounter other people with any frequency, I wear a mask. in my neighborhood I might end up passing 1 person while on a walk and we just step aside and pass at a distance because there is plenty of space. Pretty much anywhere else, a mask is warranted.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/12/2020 18:33

I don't wear one outdoors, no.

partyatthepalace · 28/12/2020 18:34

Come on, you can look up the guidance for Tier 4 easily, you don’t need to post to check this.

No it doesn’t include masks outside, but you might choose to in a busy street.

Abraxan · 28/12/2020 19:08

I'm in tier 3.

Sometimes if outdoors I do - if it's busy particularly or if I'm in and out of places. Today I did to keep my face warmer!

At school, in the playground, I do.

Many places in Europe you have to wear a mask outdoors all the time.

Virtue signal. I literally am flabbergasted. What a bunch of twats!! You now in Asia they don't just wear masks inside or keep taking them on and off. Why should we!?
Of course wearing a mask outside when I don’t get within 5m of anyone is a virtue signal.
Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 28/12/2020 19:15

No. There is no need to wear a mask outdoors. Risk of transmission is minimal.

givemegin2021 · 28/12/2020 19:17

Here is the scientific evidence for those who said there are none

do you wear a mask in the street?
Helenj1977 · 28/12/2020 19:17

Yes.

MistletoeandGin · 28/12/2020 19:19

@givemegin2021

Here is the scientific evidence for those who said there are none
None of those are relevant to me walking down a street, 5m away from someone.
Bazoo23 · 28/12/2020 19:20

I've never worn one outside its on just as I enter a shop and off the second I'm out. Cant stand them.

MistletoeandGin · 28/12/2020 19:21

And that isn’t ‘scientific evidence’, it’s a picture some Dr (or someone claiming to be a Dr) has made. I’m not saying there is no scientific evidence for masks, but that isn’t it.

itsgettingweird · 28/12/2020 19:49

@FallenSky

If I'm going to the shops or somewhere else that requires them then I put it on before I leave the house and keep it on the whole time. Mainly because it takes so long to get it in the perfect position so my glasses don't steam up. Going for a walk or somewhere that I won't be close to people then no, but always have one with me just in case.
I also always have one which was helpful today!

Ds and I took a long walk along the beach in icy temps and drizzling rain.

Came across the beach hut/cafe and found it open.

Mask in pocket with gel meant I could stop and get me a coffee and ds a bacon sarnie!!!

ShakespearesSisters · 28/12/2020 20:02

If I'm in town on my lunch or going in more than one shop I will keep it on. Its just easier than taking it on and off all the time. And put it on in the car and take it off back in car for school runs and supermarket trips. I also drown myself in hand gel leaving and entering shops, its second nature now.

I have a stinking cold and cough (got checked and I'm negative) the only place I could have caught it was on the walk I went on with my friend, 3 miles in fresh breezy air, she said she had a bit of a snotty nose. If you can catch a cold outside I imagine covid could be caught in the same way.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 28/12/2020 20:07

Yes. But I live somewhere where it’s been mandated since April. It took some getting used to but is fine now and honestly I’m surprised it hasn’t been mandated in the U.K. at all or that nobody is taking it upon themselves to do so

LaceyBetty · 28/12/2020 20:17

I do on busy streets.

firstimemamma · 28/12/2020 20:17

No way.

EffOrf · 28/12/2020 20:19

I wear my scarf up to my eyeballs but I do this every winter because I get cold sores if there is breath of cold wind so others may do the same and seem like they are wearing masks when there is no one for miles

Yellownotblue · 28/12/2020 20:19

Yes, always, including in parks and open spaces. Used to live in Asia, and I’m convinced systematic mask wearing plays a role in reducing contagion. DH and DCs also do.

lockdownromance · 28/12/2020 20:23

I find the mask so uncomfortable that I only wear it when you have to.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/12/2020 20:32

No. I put it on as I go into a shop and take it off as soon as I come out even if I'm going into another shop. They make my nose run and I cough more than usual when I'm wearing one.

Shock horror, I even took it off in the shopping centre last week despite being indoors but I figured as my lips were tingling and I had black spots in front of my eyes it was safer than passing out!

confuseddotcom090 · 28/12/2020 20:39

Lots of people are replying like they think the mask will protect them. They're not supposed to do that. They're meant to protect others from YOUR COVID particles.

Not that there is much decent evidence they protect anyone from anything, but honestly....wearing one to protect yourself...might as well get a lucky rabbit's foot.

PattyPan · 28/12/2020 20:47

If it’s a busy street, yes. If I’ve come out of a shop and I am carrying multiple bags then I also tend to keep it on until I get home. I don’t put it on to go to the postbox, bottle bank etc though.
