Do you think tier five will happen

Or just just being said as scare tactic? What else could they really stop people doing?

Can’t see how a curfew and banning outdoor exercise is following the science. What is the data that supports this?

Spiratedaway · 28/12/2020 18:04

If people are banned from going outside expect slot of suicides i need to get outside for my mental health

bookworm14 · 28/12/2020 18:04

They cannot ban outdoor exercise. What an insane suggestion.

If anything, that's what I mean- There ARE rules in place already and these people should not be mixing households. If these people will mix in a garden centre, they will mix in private households. I see what you mean, but I think my main line of thinking is that once you lose genuine compliance from a meaningful number of the population, it doesn't matter what you close- People will mix.

I'm not anti-lockdown, but I am also constantly despairing of the government doing the same thing again and again and it not working. Yet, what else can they do?

We are ten months in, compliance is slipping and lockdowns offer a temporary reprieve- but less people comply each time.

I truly believe that at this point vaccinations are the only 'way out.'[/quote]
Totally agree with this

Thewiseoneincognito · 28/12/2020 18:07

The reality is those dickheads who have total disregard for the rules are only exasperating the situation. Until there is not a single case of this in the UK and our borders are closed then in and out of lockdown we will go.

Imagine you had a sieve that you wanted to turn into a pan. Until every single hole is covered and sealed you are going to have a leak and the pan will forever be A pipe dream.

The vaccines are going to be trial and error, very likely to fail the first few tries, no doubt mutations will continue, some sinister ones I expect too. This is our world now, we need to learn new ways to live it’s as simple as that.

Hardbackwriter · 28/12/2020 18:07

A lot of what is being described as appalling and unendurable is pretty much what the shielded were asked to do betwen March and June (when daily exercise was added to the OK list)

I have a lot of sympathy for the shielded and absolutely think they should be getting the vaccine asap but you can surely see that there is quite a big difference between being asked to do something to protect your own health and being legally mandated to do it to protect the health of strangers and that you can't reasonably expect people to be as willing or motivated in the latter category?

I agree. I think the person who wrote the past was being ironic. Flowers
MummaPI · 28/12/2020 18:08

@MassiveSalad

It isn't a case of wording it incorrectly. As I'm sure you know, they are two very different things. Dieing with covid is not the same as dieing of covid. If your intention is to spread fear through misinformation then it's pointless getting snippy when you're called out on it.
Getting snippy 🤣🤣 Not spreading fear at all. You are on here picking at posts, so unnecessary and most people commenting on here hopefully realised what I meant. I used the word 'of' instead of 'with' and I apologise for this. Neither you or I know whether this was a major factor in their deaths and I for one would be happy to lock down temporarily if it prevented anyone within those numbers who died OF covid.

@SufferingFromLongLockdown Can’t do irony on a message board really! A curfew would be ridiculous. I know there’s one in NI but hardly anyone is about between 8 and 6. I hardly think people exercising between those times are causing the big increase. The big increase in what is now tier 4 is clearly from the household mixing that was clearly happening inside in tiers 2 and 3.

Noti23 · 28/12/2020 18:12

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss it’s not the case of “not wanting to pay for childcare”. I’d be working 8 hours a day for £25 if I paid for childcare in my area. Then I’d be earning less than my is rent each month. Besides, in the last lockdown all the childcare facilities had reached capacity due to demand.

The vaccines are incredibly effective. There is increasing evidence of long term immunity. What on earth gives you the idea that lockdown is a sustainable solution? The whole point is to unlock. They’re not meant to be a way of life.

You do realise that the purpose of shielding is not just to cocoon the individual, but to protect the NHS?

What do you think would happen if the 600,000+ working age shielded and 100,000 DC had fallen ill in short order? We would have overwhelmed the NHS just ourselves.

And of course there are still plenty of posters who say 'shield the vulnerable and let the rest of us crack on' without I think, fully realising what they are actually expecting of the CEV.

If a regime is intolerable, it's intolerable. Whether it's for the common good, or the common good plus your own benefit

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 28/12/2020 18:16

The NHS’s own data confirm that 377 healthy people under the age of 60 have died in the UK in the whole of this pandemic.

I think some people need a big dose of perspective and a trip to the grip shop.

Think some posters on here posting under more than one username saying the same thing. Where is the evidence that people exercising outdoors are spreading the virus?

Shielders were asked to shield even from their own partners and to sleep and eat separately for four months.

And not to ever leave their homes.

For four months!

Their sacrifice is a major factor in the NHS remaining functional for the rest of us.

Splodgetastic · 28/12/2020 18:26

I don’t see people abusing the privilege of exercise as you call it but I’ve seen plenty of people in the pub clearly from different households in tiers two and three!

Splodgetastic · 28/12/2020 18:28

Think Fdrexu is Litpeachl.

Beautifulbonnie · 28/12/2020 18:29

The OP said what do we think a tier 5 could mean!

Not what’s going to happen. Jesus. All those saying show me that a curfew will help. The OP asked a question

She didn’t say I have a crystal ball and this is what the government will come out with.

TheN report to MNHQ.

Troll/sock puppet hunting on a thread is contrary to talk guidelines.

Splodgetastic · 28/12/2020 18:31

@NikeDeLaSwoosh Not if they are so stupid as to post the exact same phrases from one thread to another.

Splodgetastic · 28/12/2020 18:31

Also, tier 5 is going to happen as it’s a classic media drop the bomb and see what the public says. Not helpful to suggest curfews therefore.
