Pre-print of the new B.1.1.7 lineage published 23rd Dec 2020.

“Our estimates suggest that control measures of a similar stringency to the national lockdown implemented in England in November 2020 are unlikely to reduce the effective reproduction number Rt to less than 1, unless primary schools, secondary schools, and universities are also closed.

We project that large resurgences of the virus are likely to occur following easing of control measures.

It may be necessary to greatly accelerate vaccine roll-out to have an appreciable impact in suppressing the resulting disease burden.”

I'm Primary and have received notification from my HT today to get back up to speed with our online learning platform before next week.

Make of that what you will.

@EmmanuelleMakro

Well it depends how much people have been following the rules I guess over Christmas
. Also with this new variant. Glad you didn’t have much staff absence in your school. It certainly wasn’t the case in mine.

TheHoneyBadger · 27/12/2020 18:08

People could follow rules perfectly and still catch it. It's not moral failure to catch a virus.

BaileyBoos · 27/12/2020 18:12

@TheHoneyBadger

Indeed. Hate all the uncertainty (as I’m sure everyone does) just wanted to get a feel of the general consensus if primaries would be going back or not. I know, I know, Boris probably doesn’t even bloody know. Time will tell I guess.

BungleandGeorge · 27/12/2020 18:26

Yes, if anything is going to change they really should announce it tomorrow, or just announce that they’re not planning on changes to schools! It’s obvious what the situation is with covid, it’s not suddenly going to turnaround in a week!

TheHoneyBadger · 27/12/2020 18:37

It's hard to predict because you can't go with reason and logic because that doesn't appear to be the basis of decision making re schools Hmm
