Looks like they'll be an announcement of new restrictions today - ministers meeting this morning so (despite papers last night) doesn't seem they've decided what to do yet - more places in Tier 4 or national lockdown, maybe.

Robert Jenrick quoted in Guardian today saying 'A judgment needs to be made as to whether the tiered system is strong enough, or whether at some point in the future we need to take further action.' which sounds a bit ominous...

@Nousernameforme It’s on the BBC, Metro and Telegraph, I’ve had news alerts from all three. I think the BBC have changed their programming to fit it in from 2:30, too. It’s definitely been publicly announced now.

The media seems convinced it’s a tier 4 update, but it’s Hancock, so who knows.

I wonder if there's any significance in it being mid afternoon instead of at 5?

Nothing particularly earth shattering so they don't feel the need to wait until more people have finished work for the 5 pm slot?

Or they know that whatever they're going to tell us is going to have everyone running out to the shops etc and want to maximise the time available to reduce the madness?

I think it's a shift of some T3 to T4 and some T2 to T3, Boris will be back for the big 'everyone in T4' soon enough.

Changing things every few days is just putting people even more on edge

I'm in Tier 4, Christmas get togethers have already been curbed.

It is getting so complicated even just to work out if you can leave the house and for what purpose.

So today I left the house to go to the dentists which I assume is still allowed in tier 4. I left it again to go to the council tip - again is permitted. My son just left walking I presume on h is own. I cannot even remember if he is allowed to meet a friend outside for a socially distanced walk in tier 4. I can go out for work purposes so when I posted 30 work posted things earlier that was permitted as it cannot be done by email in that case.

Yes in tier 4 you cannot meet most family for lunch so my adult son who lives alone will be having Christmas entirely on his own and won't come to us in tier 4 London. That has already been done by the state.

@Popcornriver im wondering how long the single and childless/childfree couples will put up with that.

@DfEisashambles I was psychologically abused financially abused and gaslighted by an ex boyfriend. The Government is doing the same thing and i have found what they are doing worse.

and obvs i could walk away from the former.
