Looks like they'll be an announcement of new restrictions today - ministers meeting this morning so (despite papers last night) doesn't seem they've decided what to do yet - more places in Tier 4 or national lockdown, maybe. Xmas Sad

Robert Jenrick quoted in Guardian today saying 'A judgment needs to be made as to whether the tiered system is strong enough, or whether at some point in the future we need to take further action.' which sounds a bit ominous...

Schools, especially secondary, won't be back for weeks at the start of the new term. They've sewn the seed, with the testing, and staggered return, they will announce it end of next week.
One step at a time, today was about the harsher restrictions for a large part of the country from Saturday - two and a half days notice. And the new variant (not the new one announced last weekend, but the new, new one!) The announcement about schools will have the same time scale.
Drip, drip.

For practicing Christians, Easter is more important than Christmas. So for people who see this as a religious, not secular, celebration, it's the second of our two festivals massively affected.

How many people do you believe celebrate Christmas or Easter in terms of religion? Very few. Most see it as an excuse to eat their own body weight in chocolate and get pissed. The few truly Christian people I know aren’t moaning about not being able to do this. They’re helping less fortunate people. Muslims have also missed 2 festivals. And to be honest, covid doesn’t give a shit about anyone’s religion. Religious festivals or someone’s desire to get pissed and socialise shouldn’t factor into government decisions. Health, economy, education...yes.

Jeezus - stop finding things to compare/contrast and 'critically' think about and if you must, then look for the commonalities.

Tier this that or the other, religion yes, no, none, indifferent and schools in, out, test, blended, closed and etc of examples - the main thing we all have in common is that it affects us all.

It might seem like a series of insular tragedies that happen individually behind closed doors - as happens without Covid - but it's now become a more Common Experience, shared by the majority of people.

@SophieB100 I’m just reading now that Jenrick said schools WILL be back to normal with testing as planned in the first few weeks of Jan. Seems like they’re adamant on it.

SophieB100 · 23/12/2020 21:58

Well what this government says, and then do, don't always tally do they @DfEisashambles Grin
I want to go back as normal in January.
Just can't see it happening - this new variant which is forcing tier 4 across more of the country, Christmas mixing etc., I think numbers will still rise and re-opening schools will be postponed.
We already know our High School is going back from the 5th for years 11 and 13 only, but our Head thinks this will be delayed.
What a mess.
