Looks like they'll be an announcement of new restrictions today - ministers meeting this morning so (despite papers last night) doesn't seem they've decided what to do yet - more places in Tier 4 or national lockdown, maybe. Xmas Sad

Robert Jenrick quoted in Guardian today saying 'A judgment needs to be made as to whether the tiered system is strong enough, or whether at some point in the future we need to take further action.' which sounds a bit ominous...

Many employees need school open in order to come into work but i agree that it must be frustrating for certain industries that they are considered essential/important.

SimonJT · 23/12/2020 15:34

MPs have staff, schools aren’t a priority because they don’t need to actually provide care for their own children, so school closures aren’t inconvenient for them.

LifelsAPigsty · 23/12/2020 15:34

@Bathroom12345

I hope the people flooding family in tow to supermarkets stop now along with the people who are saying they are exempt from wearing a mask.
What about those who are exempt from wearing one?
Miseryl · 23/12/2020 15:35

I'm so relieved the north west has escaped tier increases under this review although no doubt that may change in the future.

tootyfruitypickle · 23/12/2020 15:36

Jenny H is reassuring . Vaccines will work.

We just need to sit tight (literally!)

PandemicPavolova · 23/12/2020 15:36

Dr jenny harries says thank you to teachers?.. As she says, wear face coverings with people you don't know and in crowded places..

EXCEPT IN SCHOOLS as she pays us on the back and sends us back in Angry

TicTacTwo · 23/12/2020 15:36

@User647647

I would like him to be clear and specific about schools.

They must know by now what the decision is, just tell us now, not the day before we’re due to start.

They won't say anything until a day or two before term starts as they like to keep schools on their toes and give them no notice whatsoever.
PandemicPavolova · 23/12/2020 15:36

Pats us..

Yes. :(
TicTacTwo · 23/12/2020 15:37

Plus whatever they announce now will be changed a dozen times before term starts so you can't count on an announcement today being the policy when school reopens.

willsantausesantatize · 23/12/2020 15:37

I hope the teacher unions are on this .. especially of younger children / teens are more at risk :(

TammyHullfigure · 23/12/2020 15:37

Lol Bristol playing the tier ping pong. What a shambles.

Face shields should be the alternative to face coverings and every adult should be required to have one or the other. In September in Munich everyone had face coverings, no exceptions, and I cannot believe our health is that much worse than theirs.

'I find it uncomfortable' is not a reason not to wear one.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 23/12/2020 15:39

I don't care anymore. I can't face any more bad news. Dr Hopkins' dress is lovely though.

tootyfruitypickle · 23/12/2020 15:39

Well there’s no question all adults will get vaccinated now

Goldistheanswer · 23/12/2020 15:39

I feel sick and my hands are trembling but I’m trying to stay calm for my teenage DCs. Two of them are ECV and so am I plus the other dc has severe anxiety and depression. How do I keep this latest news from them about the latest variant which is even more contagious and can cause severe illness in young people? 😭

IDSNeighbour · 23/12/2020 15:40

Will they contact people that have come in from SA to make sure they are isolating?

Shouldn't be necessary as they are already supposed to be. My South African friend's daughter moved over here a week and a half ago. I've seen him since but not her as she has to isolate in their house for 2 weeks. She also had to have a negative Covid test before leaving Cape Town.

It's the contacts who are going to the problem now as they have not been isolating under previous rules. Although, if the tests are accurate, that should have mitigated most of the damage.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 23/12/2020 15:40

mercybooth providing the laugh I need 😂

ottertail · 23/12/2020 15:41

They do not care about teachers at all. Anecdotally we all know that teachers are dropping like flies and they won't release the data that they're now lying about.

RainMoon · 23/12/2020 15:41

Has anyone given the government the heads up that we are an Island? You know, could have locked down like New Zealand?

willsantausesantatize · 23/12/2020 15:41

They kept saying ' new ' and 'old' as regards the virus.
It's a bit mixed ,
but then I'm not a scientist and I do struggle to understand sometimes.

SunshineOutdoors · 23/12/2020 15:42

I'm in York, where we'd got from approx 300 per 100,000 in October, down to 59 a couple of weeks ago, now we're back up to 120 ish but still no change from tier 2? Suelry if we've doubled in a couple of weeks it's only going to get worse? Also surrounded by tier 3 areas with many people coming here into town to go out.

willsantausesantatize · 23/12/2020 15:42

Yes. I'm not a teacher , but your right.
