Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

@Dowser that sounds exciting! Do you know what you're getting or is it a surprise?

In the early 80s worked in Durham and .I lived 10 miles to the West. Back then when it snowed it Really Snowed.

Our manager was from Yorkshire and had stayed in Durham after graduating. He had no idea of the geography of North West Co. Durham.

One afternoon it began snowing. Shortly afterwards some of the employees' wives began ringing from their homes in Tow Law and Stanley, saing that their husbands needed to come home Now or they wouldn't be able to get home. Because it was fairly light snow in Durham at the time, my manager didn't grasp what it might be like to the West. Thankfully he was eventually persuaded to close early.

There's a place on the A690 where snow forms drifts across the road. I nearly didn't make it home myself.

Merry Christmas North East folk.

A sprinkling of snow, a natter in the park with a few people and managed to share a chunk of dd's birthday cake out. Dh has just returned from picking the meat up from the butcher's so almost time to light the fire and watch Christmas films.

Someaddedsugar · 24/12/2020 13:47

Sounds like a lovely morning @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea - v jealous of lighting the fire! Especially with how cold it is outside

@TheSilveryPussycat I can imagine Tow Law being snowed in quite regularly. DP always jokes that in snows in summer there with it being so high up

Been to Durham this afternoon, to take advantage of free Park and Ride today. The test bit was dead, some poor staff member standing under a canopy tent. Bet they were freezing. Durham was very quiet. Chester was busier.
Now sitting in front of the wood burner eating Pringles, living the dreamXmas Blush

PickAChew · 24/12/2020 16:38

I managed to nip out to front street without landing on my arse. Now summoning up the will to wash my manky hair.

Someaddedsugar · 24/12/2020 16:44

I decided it would be a good idea to cut my own fringe this afternoon and it's the most wonky fringe I've ever seen. I'm hoping everyone will have had plenty to drink by the time the family Zoom calls come round as it looks bloody ridiculous Blush

Haha! I'm leaving mine well alone. It's down to the end of my nose and has to be wrestled off my face and pinned down. I can't see me getting a hair cut in January so I'm embracing 80s style big, wavy hair, at the moment.

Someaddedsugar · 24/12/2020 17:17

Grin fringes are one of those things that I love to have but can't quite manage to maintain!

I was booked to get mine cut and coloured (all hair not just my fringe) next week but the hairdresser has just been told she needs to isolate so I'd imagine by the time she's back at work we'll be into either tier 4 or a lockdown so thought I'd just do it myself.

This used to work for me. Starting with a wet fringe, smooth it into a point so it makes an inverted triangle on your forehead. Without cutting very much off, cut it straight across the point. Similar principle as the Mumsnet haircut, which I have tried once recently. It seemed to work to thin out the length of my unruly just-past- shoulder-length hair.

No bus hunting today. Gave it one last (infinitesimal) chance i.e walked to the shop and back, thus spending all of 5 minutes on Front Street. Bet it came by when I was actually in the shop Wink

Someaddedsugar · 24/12/2020 21:13

I'll have to give that a try @TheSilveryPussycat

Just finished putting the presents under the tree and the stockings back on beds.

Hope everyone's having a good Christmas Eve and wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas Smile

Happy Christmas from Northumberland

Rosehip10 · 24/12/2020 23:54

Happy Christmas!

NUFC69 · 25/12/2020 08:04

Happy Christmas! Just contemplating getting up. I am a GM, so no children here any more, but we're fortunate because we will see the family today. DD and her family are coming round to sit in the garden this morning, then we'll be taking the cooked turkey round to DS at lunchtime where we'll spend the afternoon with him, his family and his in laws.

So sorry for those unable to see their loved ones.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 25/12/2020 08:39

Merry Christmas NE ladies 🤶🏻🎁🎄🎉

DD9 woke at 5.30am. I can't complain as that's her usual wake up time. She's pleased with all her gifts and I'm ready for a nap.

We're going to my sister's for Christmas lunch later. Hope you all have a fab day!

PickAChew · 25/12/2020 10:49

Merry Christmas from north west Durham!

Dowser · 26/12/2020 10:50

@Someaddedsugar
I’d asked for an Opal pendant and after looking around the high street and not finding anything suitable he went back to the local guy who made my engagement/ wedding ring and took my mums engagement ring that had only two diamonds left and my aunts Opal and diamond ring and made a completely different ring for me.

Both are lovely pieces and very unique.

I was so delighted with my pendant I burst into tears.
I felt so materialistic at a time when it’s so hard for everyone. However I will treasure it.

Dowser · 26/12/2020 10:52

Every year I want to go to flamingoland in the winter to see the animals and I’ve never made it once.
I’m determined to go this year.
I just hope they are still doing it

Dowser · 26/12/2020 10:53

Did everyone have a lovely day yesterday?
