Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

Thank you for the new thread.

Yes, having a 'end date' would defo help with my DC.
After seeing the ONS graph & the uptick in ages 2 to school age year 6, then I can't say I don't support a temp closure of schools. It needs looking in to why such a uptick & due to the head in sand approach so far, I don't think they'll have been using the Christmas break wisely for it.

MissEWeatherwax · 23/12/2020 20:27

Gosh, I’m so relieved, we are staying Tier 3 for now, can’t believe I’m saying that!
The rain is making me depressed again.
Looking forward to trying to see the Santa bus tomorrow at Chester. Going to treat myself to a Costa, while waiting. Blush

PickAChew · 23/12/2020 22:49

Dh got a free greggs coffee and bacon roll, yesterday morning, just for downloading the app.

I didn't even leave the house today. Just couldn't be arsed.

The stuck in Dover thread has made me appreciate Durham all the more. I mean we have some pretty mammoth gridlock, sometimes but not quite that mad.

TheSilveryPussycat · 23/12/2020 23:32

Tracked the Christmas Angel bus from just south of Newcastle this afternoon. It got to Chester and then went pouff!! Spotted it again on the map a couple of hours later in Newcastle but my hunting motivation has been almost eroded by the repeated disappointment. I also checked the entire route at a not unreasonable time, and there was no Christmas Angel anywhere on the route.

Did anyone see the Santa bus today?

MissEWeatherwax · 23/12/2020 23:51

No, but I watched someone’s post on Facebook. Looking forward to seeing in on Chester front Street time approximately 11.45 am.
It must be disappointing trying to track and then it disappearing! I know a lot of the 21 only go to Chester, then turn around at bottom on street and go back to Newcastle.
My Greggs app is getting full, think I’m nearly due a free coffee/drink and sandwich. I love that you get a free treat at your birthday Blush
Went Arnison tonight was lovely but late. M&S were still stacking the shelves. I’m now done. Just got Santa to see and Christmas is hereXmas Wink

MissEWeatherwax · 23/12/2020 23:53

Forgot to say how long does it normally take for Mumsnet HQ to amend to thread title?

TheSilveryPussycat · 24/12/2020 00:10

The annoying thing is last week I found it twice, heading north from Durham. Unfotunately both times it had got to the Arnison, meaning i had missed it going past by about 10 minutes Xmas Confused

TheSilveryPussycat · 24/12/2020 00:11

Has someone reported the thread and asked for the title to be amended?

MissEWeatherwax · 24/12/2020 00:29

Yes, yesterday to add North east to the thread title. So people from North East can find.

Someaddedsugar · 24/12/2020 08:02

I've reported the thread again just in case they haven't seen the first message!

I've told DSIL about the Santa bus - she was wondering if anyone knows where the best place to wait will be with her DD so that they don't miss it - I'd suggested just outside the Boots Pharmacy?

The snow has just started here and the sky looks full! Could be all set for a white Christmas!

Just tried to point the snow out to Ds2 and he went all teenage and nonplussed!

Stanley must be under 6" of the stuff :o not even kidding - the village I used to live in was also a high elevation and we could sometimes be snowed in while everyone else had a bit of sleet. It. Would get to a point where nothing could get up the hill.

We have friends in Stanley and they've said they're not going anywhere today after looking out of the window! They'd planned to go on a Christmas light drive this afternoon but they've said they're not risking it.

The last time it snowed here it was a Monday and it was really strange as only the people who lived furthest away could get to our office! So those of us in the villages outside Durham couldn't get in, but the person who travels from Blyth could! I'm sure they all thought we were making it up that we couldn't get out. And while I could get to the bottom of the village the road was blocked from people abandoning their cars and walking home!

Morning! Thanks for new thread!

I'm excited it's snowing, although ground quite wet so it's not lying.

Also the village's water appears to be off due to a burst pipe, argh!!

MissEWeatherwax · 24/12/2020 09:29

I think Boots is good idea. That’s why I’m thinking Costs, then if it goes either to Newcastle or A167 way, I will see. I hate snow, but some people like it.
Pleased to see the North East is on thread title now.
Pleased finished my shop now. Not going to be pleasant queuing today. Was impressed the the upstairs in M&S was open last night, bought more pjs.
Just told my DD and they were excited about the snow, but they are just going to look from inside a warm house.

Oh no @juneybean - have you checked the Northumbrian Water Twitter? They usually have a good idea of how long it'll be off for on there.

We are about three miles from Stanley and it’s eased off quite a bit but just started snowing again. We normally go abroad for Christmas and this is the first time we have stayed home for years and it feels very festive!

I still can’t get over how much has changed in the last year. I had to put a pair of tights on under my jeans today because my legs are now too fat with lockdown weight to fit socks on with my wellies. Blush and it felt so strange to be putting on ‘dressing up clothes’ or clothes that I’d normally wear to work.

That’s a thought though I’m not sure any of my work clothes will fit me when we get back to the office! Better get on a diet

juneybean · 24/12/2020 10:59

Ooo thanks for the hint about twitter! I just had a text saying they had rerouted water so we have some now at least!

Ifailed · 24/12/2020 11:07

Do we think there is a genuine risk that the north east will go into tier 4?
This is the difference in 1 week. By January I'd expect most of England to be Tier 4.

Saw the Santa bus. Your sister was in perfect place outside Boots

Dowser · 24/12/2020 12:19

Marking my place.
Dh was heading off to jewellers in taxi for my present an was planning on walking back as it was bright and sunny.

Two minutes after he’d gone, there was hail.

I’ll put my cards on the table.
I hate snow or the excuse we get for snow here.
We don’t get enough for long enough for it to be fun.
Usually enough for it to be slushy, icy and dangerous under foot.
Bah humbug..and I’ve lost my phone, so am grumpy.

PickAChew · 24/12/2020 12:49

Yeah, the pavements are slushy now. Hoping it clears in the next hour so I can safely have a leg stretch and scour the local shops for yellow stickers
