Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

@Dowser that's such a lovely and thoughtful gift!

We had a lovely day thanks, although DPIL decided it would be a good idea to buy DS a mini drum kit (I did try and change their mind about this but unfortunately they'd already ordered it back in September) and I'm ready to ring them to say the bloody thing can live at their house!

But a lovely day despite everything and we've had a nice walk with DSIL and DBIL this morning and an afternoon of crafts ongoing!

Hoping to meet up with my DNanna for a walk at some point in January as haven't seen her since last March.

Hope everyone else had lovely days?

That sounds lovely @Dowser.
I bought my own presents, I always receive what I wantXmas Grin.
A drum kit, I agree stays at GP’s house!
We had our very small Christmas. With DSIs and Gp’s. It was a lovely afternoon.
Back to boring life now.

Someaddedsugar · 26/12/2020 16:47

I did the same with my stocking presents @MissEWeatherwax - it was lovely! We don't do presents for grown ups anymore and instead just do family Secret Santas so this year I made the most of it with my stocking gifts Grin

I meant to join the first of these threads and now we're up to 4! We had a trip out to the beach in Whitburn today -natural exfoliation!

NoseringGirl · 26/12/2020 19:13

Just jumping onto the new thread! Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas!
We've just been for a drive with the kids to try and see some Christmas lights. I'd read on a Facebook group that Darras Road was meant to be really good. I don't know if I just missed the good bit but it definitely wasn't worth the drive out there!

Hope everyone has had a good Christmas. We are heading through to Tynemouth to have an outside walk with parents we didn't get to see at Christmas. Possible fish & chip lunch in the car. Feeding toddlers has to be one of the most awkward things of the Tier restrictions, I don't like giving them fast food so take a packed lunch & I also don't like them eating outside in this freezing weather so car it is. I'm sure (despite clear up) I'm gonna find half eaten food bits in my back seats for months

Someaddedsugar · 27/12/2020 08:46

@DaddysGirl36 hope you have a lovely walk. Riley's Fish Shack is open if you were fancying something a bit different.

I agree re toddlers and lunchtime. We've introduced DS to the car picnic and now he absolutely loves it and actually asks if we can go for a walk so he can have a car picnic after!

That is gorgeous @Dowser.
I’m not leaving house today, still got pjs onBlush.
But I am so bored. Started to take Christmas decorations down(bar humbug). Tree down tomorrow. Will leave lights until 12th night because I like them.
I am going shopping tomorrow for a exciting new sofa, living the dream.

Hopeforhappiertimesahead · 27/12/2020 15:02

Merry Christmas all, had a walk out (rural Durham area) very muddy but good to be out after the wind and rain of yesterday.

Not seen any family at all (oh that may be a good thing...) but chatted, had a lovely day, even could say the best Christmas Day for a while making the most as we will be moving soon...

Hope everyones Sunday is going relaxingly well!

gingercat02 · 27/12/2020 16:45

Went down to the beach for a walk (Whitley Bay) loads of people out, felt quite normal which was lovely bumped into a few friends we haven't seen for months. I sooooo want my life back next year

Someaddedsugar · 28/12/2020 10:43

Is anyone else feeling like all of the days are blurring into one?

Went to the Arnison Centre yesterday afternoon to do the food shop and I was so disappointed as Sainsbury's didn't have any reduced wrapping paper like they usually do! But they did appear to have a lot of heavily reduced turkeys.

We're off to Chester Park later with the football so hoping the decorated tree is still there as it's so lovely to look at.

What's the angel bus? Blush

DaddysGirl36 · 28/12/2020 12:09

Anyone tackled the Metrocentre yet? We are going reluctantly tomorrow but it's because it's my birthday soon & DH is worried the shops will shut so I'm going to pick my own presents, which I never do as I love surprises. Stupid Covid sucking the fun from most things

PickAChew · 28/12/2020 16:01

I got some reduced stuffing and jam in markses, this afternoon!

@pusheenlove the angel is the number 21 bus between Durham, Chester le Street and Newcastle. It passes the Angel of the North.

TheSilveryPussycat · 28/12/2020 16:04

Pusheen, Go North East bus number 21 runs between Newcastle and Durham. The buses have a large picture of the Angel of the North on the side. They decorated one of these buses with lights on the Angel pic and had Christmas music inside. You could track it on the Go NE website.

I spent quite a lot of time trying to see it, but never managed it. Most of the times I tracked it from Newcastle, it got to Birtley or Chester, then disappeared or turned round. And posted on the last thread about it, near the end of the thread.

Ah well, maybe next year...

Arnison was manic today - we only went up to drop off some recycling and the traffic was awful - gridlocked in the carpark!)

I appreciate I was adding to the gridlock by going but DD is v unwell with an eating disorder and to help distract from the ED voice, we plan out the day hour by hour and include some 'exciting' trips out of the house to break up the time - yesterday was beach whilst today's was a drive up to the recycling bins - living the life!
On that note any decent outside v short strolls or not high energy activity, anyone can recommend - before Xmas we did Finchale priory, have driven down to Seaham and up to Seahouses, did a trip to Warkworth...

TheSilveryPussycat · 28/12/2020 16:24

There are lots of Co Durham railway paths, with carparks dotted along them. A Google search returns links to several helpful websites.

Strange. I was there on boxing Day (sales) and it wasn't too bad.
myrtleWilson · 28/12/2020 16:29

Thanks @TheSilveryPussycat - hadn't thought of railway walks, have been stuck on a ruined religious buildings vibe Grin I'll have a search

PusheenLove · 28/12/2020 16:32

Sorry to hear about your daughter by the way. I hope she's getting help from an ED therapist

Someaddedsugar · 28/12/2020 16:37

@myrtleWilson how about Brasside pond or a walk along the old railway lines near Langley Park? Or Hamsterley Forest and Hill End near Frosterley are both lovely if they aren't too far out of your way?

OP posts:
QueenofStella · 28/12/2020 16:41

Hi @myrtleWilson - if you fancy some riverside walks there are loads of shorter or longer ones you can do around Blaydon/Ryton and across the bridge to Newburn/Lemington. Also - look at Derwenthaugh Country Park (or the Derwent Walk as we call it - behind Blaydon Rugby Club) - again loads of shorter or longer walks depending on what you fancy.

Hope your DD gets well soon x
