Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

@Someaddedsugar in the end I couldn’t be bothered Blush. That seems my life at moment no motivation for anything.
Good luck with the cake my DD has promised to make ours, she made it last year and it was lovely, diet will have to start February!
I love reading the Christmas threads especially the crafts and Poncified ones.
Hope you had a lovely holiday.
Did you hear about the horrific crash on the tip road going to Arnison centre (at the little dip that I love) . Just so sad Sad.

MrsEWeatherwax · 30/08/2021 21:39

Yes hopefully better Christmas this year. Ours is always quiet and I only see who I like. So was hard last year only seeing my DP’s and my DSis and DN for one day onlySad.
County Durham vaccine rates are really good . Hopefully cases will still low and mild.

Someaddedsugar · 30/08/2021 21:39

Hope you're ok.

I was going to restart my diet tomorrow following a few weeks of over-eating but have decided to wait until next year as otherwise I'll be starting again every other Monday Grin

We go in a few weeks and I'm so excited. It's only two nights away but feels like a complete treat with Covid etc. Knowing my luck I'll catch the bloody thing the day before!

I joined the Next door app and read about it on there - so so sad. We drove along there today on the way back from the Arnison Centre and the wall that the car was in pieces. I can't imagine how the parents of the people in the car must be feeling. Such an awful thing to happen.

*that the car hit

That crash was awful. There's a picture of the wall in the Chronicle. They've ploughed right through it. The kids in the car are ds1's age which makes it all the more sobering. A boy in his primary school class lost his big brother in a similar crash and a neighbour lost a friend from school. It's such a waste of young lives.

I hope your holiday is everything you are hoping for and need @Someaddedsugar. It's been an exhausting couple of years, mentally.

MrsEWeatherwax · 30/08/2021 23:04

Enjoy your holiday @Someaddedsugar.
My Dad said the wall was destroyed, he didn’t know about crash as he isn’t online/ read papers or listen to radio or tv news. Blush . I feel so sad for the parents my DD’s are similar age. Hopefully the other 3 survive without physical injuries, mentally will be another matter especially the driver.
PickAChew not only is the model bus a classic, it’s history too, in a way. It’s a shame your DS isn’t up to bus rides because I think they have vintage buses on Beamish museum route.
I’m on Next door but can’t seem to find anything interesting on it.

PickAChew · 30/08/2021 23:52

I'm now a lead on next door after standing up to the resident bully that they needed more eyes for! The rules are really strict but it's quite refreshing - I have learned to make the "neighbourly" response rather than the robust mumsnet one!

There's a bus "depot" at Beamish, now. They have a true vintage bus and a modern bus decked out inside with with Beamish promos and vintage ads, which goes out on services serving the museum. I'm enjoying the gardening groups, BTW, even though my gardening attempts are usually thwarted by aches and pains. There's a re-wilding project going on in one of the villages which is heading towards an open gardens day.

Someaddedsugar · 31/08/2021 06:35

I love the sound of the model bus @PickAChew!

I agree - such a tragic loss of life too for someone so young. I saw that the police are asking anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. I hope the others who were in the car pull through.

My next door feed tends to be full of people talking about dog sitters, asking if anyone has xyz for sale and Avon sellers. I don't mind either but after seeing a few threads on here about the amusing conversations I'm a bit disappointed Grin. It's awful that people are using it as a platform for bullying though!

We went to Beamish a few weeks ago and got talking to one of the bus drivers - so lovely to talk to someone so passionate about what they do.

The mlm threads are tedious. I used to mute them but just take them down if they get spammy or if they seem dodgy.

TheSilveryPussycat · 31/08/2021 15:40

I have fond memories of the Bond buses who plied their trade between Oakenshaw and Bishop Auckland. Even though if you caught one into Willington, the bus times meant you just missed the Durham bus (not a Bondy).

Florelei · 31/08/2021 16:01

Hello everyone. I see the thread is nearly full!

We got a letter about the Next Door thing and assumed it was a scam! 😂

Someaddedsugar · 31/08/2021 20:11

Thanks for the reminder @Florelei - I’ll set up a new thread and post the link on this one - should I move it to Chat or is there a more appropriate topic?

I also thought the letter was a scam but curiosity got the better of me 😂.

I vote Chat.
On buses I still miss the bus fare collector, was always women on the bus as a child, everyone was always well behaved.

myrtleWilson · 31/08/2021 21:31

I vote chat too!
I only heard about the crash on this thread - dreadful news. My DD is the same age.

Never heard of bond buses. Such a pretty colour! Shame I've not seen the livery revived by preservationists.
PickAChew · 01/09/2021 00:12

And yes, chat. The new one that doesn't disappear old threads!

PickAChew · 01/09/2021 00:17

My dad worked as a conductor for a few months before he joined the army. He hasn't really used public transport, much, but my parents came up here a few years ago and we caught the bus to the Baltic, which meant changing at Gateshead, and he got quite emotional at Gateshead Interchange and realised exactly what it was that Ds1 loves. Dad is a vintage car and motorbike enthusiast, himself, though he's struggling to come to terms with the fact that he can't manage the restoration work, any more.

Someaddedsugar · 01/09/2021 08:45

Morning everyone! Chat it is - Thread 5
