Well the few have ruined it for the many again....wish I’d joined them in breaking the rules now

Just that really.

Have been sensible, followed the rules, looking forward to a simple Christmas with us and dm who lives alone 200 miles away.

Have seen quite a few definite non household groups doing what they want, meals out indoors etc and of course they will have met up with who they want to over the last few weeks and will still probably moan about the restrictions or just ignore them.

OP posts:
Belepheron · 19/12/2020 21:17

I do wonder how the people who have broken the rules, feel.

TibetanTerrier · 19/12/2020 21:17

Imagine how much worse the situation would be now if everyone had been ignorant enough and selfish enough to have broken all the rules.

supersplodge · 19/12/2020 21:18

I think a lot of people have been getting too relaxed though. The papers and social media are full of people taking selfies with their arms around their mates, and queueing to get into bars in towns. People reach across you in the supermarkets and go in groups instead of singly. I haven't experienced it too much locally but facebook and newspaper stories give a different picture.

The radio had a phone in recently and so many people were saying they were breaking the rules. One 30 something Mum of one in London proudly said she had a full diary of social engagements because they have all the big warehouse parties going on! She was proud, not embarrassed!

A recent survey said one in five people have had a non bubble person in their house in the last week. There's no chance of people following the new rules!

I try to be good and sensible but even I have forgotten a mask going into my exercise class, and tried to meet two friends during the last lockdown because I forgot. Some people are confused and a lot are just refusing now. It's all a nightmare!

BigSisLittleSisCardboardBox · 19/12/2020 21:18

How awful of you to think like this. You don’t catch the virus just because you’re naughty.

The people who I know who have caught the virus are nurses, teachers and children. What utter bastards they must be. 🙄

thenightsky · 19/12/2020 21:18

Now here we are with a new strain because it was allowed to mutate

That is what a virus does. Humans will never stop that.

LastTrainEast · 19/12/2020 21:21

"So if we'd had a glass of wine with our lunch we'd be more likely to give each other Covid?"

If you can't grasp the point of a rule even after it has been explained many times that doesn't mean it is nonsense.

That applies to the people still saying we should have closed all the schools too. You'd think by now it would have sunk in or a friend would have sat them down and led them through it.

ivykaty44 which myth? Are you one of the "Freemason lizards lied about the virus" lot?

Baycob · 19/12/2020 21:21

@BlueJackel

Well those infected pass it on to other so yes it is!

tobee · 19/12/2020 21:24

". They don't have a "new, more contagious form" in China or New Zealand because they didn't allow the virus to spread uncontrollably. That was what created conditions for a new form to emerge."

Yes how shit of us not to have a population of less than 5 million or a totalitarian regime! Any more comparing of apples and pears? Hmm

mopphead · 19/12/2020 21:25

Agree it's nobody s fault. Ridiculous of you to say that people are to blame. These rules make no sense. Like the virus won't infect us 25th, but will again on the 26th? Won't infect you at work, will when you see the same colleges in the pub? Won't infect you if you're rich enough flying for business, will infect you if you're a middle earner? Ok then....

ParkingFeud · 19/12/2020 21:26

As someone who's boss doesn't belive in Coronavirus, don't blame people going to work in non-socially distanced workplaces. Our boss told someone to come in who has a positive test and told them to just work outside but they came in for the loo and kettle.
It's not a great time to be looking for other jobs :(

Chinainmyhandsoitis · 19/12/2020 21:26

The virus is spreading because it is a virus. It spread quickly throughout the world because of all the international travel. It didn't spread to countries that closed their borders quickly. We didn't close ours. We have many large densely populated areas. The virus will spread. Blaming people for continuing to see their families is just wasting anger on the wrong thing. We can lockdown and lockdown but it is in this country now and as soon as everybody reemerges from their homes numbers will rise and it will begin spreading again.

Teaga · 19/12/2020 21:28

I’m in Kent and caught covid about 3 weeks ago now.... also been following the rules but that means me getting the bus daily to take my eldest son to school so not sure it is all ‘rulebreakers’, haven’t even been to the shops as I get it delivered.

Itstheprinciple · 19/12/2020 21:29

I've caught it from my school. I have followed every rule. I've been out only to essential shops for months, except for work. I wear my mask correctly. I wash hands. I sanitise. I keep my distance. But those pesky rule breakers spreading it around, eh...? (Or 4 year olds as they are known in my case)

Postitgluestick · 19/12/2020 21:29

Can you form a support bubble?

RosesandPumpkins · 19/12/2020 21:29

I know loads of people who played by the rules and got covid. We’re all in education.

tobee · 19/12/2020 21:30

Basically all the Mumsnet lovelies are out in force tonight:- "you're all shit! I'm fabulous!" AngryHmm

Suzi888 · 19/12/2020 21:31

You can still go OP.

nosswith · 19/12/2020 21:34

Yes the few have ruined it for the many, that's Mr Johnson, Mr Gove, Mr Sunak, Mr Hancock and Baroness Dido Harding.

katy1213 · 19/12/2020 21:35

Think positive - they're creating herd immunity by catching it so you don't have to - I'm all for it!

Dillo10 · 19/12/2020 21:38

If it was only a few people I doubt we'd be in this situation

WhoWants2Know · 19/12/2020 21:42

I think keeping the schools fully open was no better than what happened at the intensive mink farms. Of course there's a new strain. They created the ideal conditions for the virus to spread and change.

This hasn't happened because of people not following the rules. It's because the government put the wrong rules in place.

Bluethrough · 19/12/2020 21:44

@tobee

". They don't have a "new, more contagious form" in China or New Zealand because they didn't allow the virus to spread uncontrollably. That was what created conditions for a new form to emerge."

Japan has done significantly better than most countries, an island with a population of 126m.

Going up but from a v low base.

When cases were rising fast in Kent, why was it allowed to carry-on ? because many tory MPs opposed restrictions, a poor track and trace system and Boris delayed, again :(

Hearwego · 19/12/2020 21:44

But people on Facebook and social media are saying how it’s not a big deal and they’d rather sacrifice Christmas so their loved ones will survive this Christmas.
Yet these are the same people that were going to hug their granny’s and spend Christmas with big groups. This only changed because of today’s announcement by Boris. So I don’t believe some of this sanctimonious crap.

Blacktothepink · 19/12/2020 21:45

Schools
Useless government
Cronyism

dudsville · 19/12/2020 21:46

@MolyHolyGuacamole

The govt ruined it ages ago by not stocking up on PPE then refusing to close borders, and taking too long to make rules on face coverings, then they ruined it even more recently by continuing to keep schools open when they couldn't effectively enforce proper distancing.
I agree with this. It's like blaming each other for poverty or global warming when it's the people in power who pull these strings.
