Just that really.

Have been sensible, followed the rules, looking forward to a simple Christmas with us and dm who lives alone 200 miles away.

Have seen quite a few definite non household groups doing what they want, meals out indoors etc and of course they will have met up with who they want to over the last few weeks and will still probably moan about the restrictions or just ignore them.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 19/12/2020 20:22

The govt ruined it ages ago by not stocking up on PPE then refusing to close borders, and taking too long to make rules on face coverings, then they ruined it even more recently by continuing to keep schools open when they couldn't effectively enforce proper distancing.

onedayinthefuture · 19/12/2020 20:25

Many of our so called leaders caught the virus as did the scientific advisors. The audacity really.

Mummywantsaweewee · 19/12/2020 20:26

The more people who break the rules, the more restrictions we will have to live with. It’s that simple. I’ve seen people walking round shops wearing masks but not covering their nose. How dumb/ignorant can you get...?

Spanielmadness · 19/12/2020 20:27

🙄 given that most of the rules are nonsensical, you can hardly blame a load of people not following them.

Do you think the virus thinks - ‘Ah! Won’t infect this business meeting, but I’ll spread around this group of mates’.

Follow the rules or don’t follow the rules, but don’t make yourself feel worse thinking ‘coulda, woulda, shoulda’.........

RandomMess · 19/12/2020 20:29

You don't think it could be hugely down to the children attending school spreading it...?

JayDot500 · 19/12/2020 20:30

I don't think we can blame millions of children for following the rules and going to school, or their parents for allowing them. I'm definitely blaming the government for keeping schools open without much to stop infection from spreading, especially in high risk areas. I'm going to do my bit, DS is not going back to school until rates reduce drastically!

RaspberryCoulis · 19/12/2020 20:30

Fuck off with the blame game. It's nobody's "fault" that a new, more contagious form of covid is circulating.

cardibach · 19/12/2020 20:31

If she lives alone you still can see her surely? As long as you are her support bubble.

DuesToTheDirt · 19/12/2020 20:31

Yeah we had lunch out recently, but no alcohol allowed with it and no music in the restaurant. What nonsense. So if we'd had a glass of wine with our lunch we'd be more likely to give each other Covid? Hmm

NovemberR · 19/12/2020 20:31

To be honest, I feel that as long as schools were crammed with kids unable to social distance and as long as (most) workplaces were back that this is what has led to the spread.

Not Auntie Dorothy meeting up with her daughter and two kids.

I say this as someone who has not left the house for 3 months. I think it's too easy to blame 'the public' when government advice has been contradictory and dangerous.

Coriandersucks · 19/12/2020 20:32

Don’t be a dick op - if anyone’s to blame is the governments mishandling if this whole situation. Don’t come all holier than thou than anyone else.

lazylinguist · 19/12/2020 20:34

You do realise it's perfectly possible to catch and pass on Covid while following the rules, right? Dh and I are in classrooms with 30 different kids at a time and no masks all day. As are our dc. All within the rules.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/12/2020 20:37

It's school ya lemon.

BaileyBoos · 19/12/2020 20:39

It’s schools you fool

Popcornriver · 19/12/2020 20:39

Sorry but in my area people are mostly following the rules. The schools have been a breeding ground for the and the government allowed it to happen. Now here we are with a new strain because it was allowed to mutate. Meanwhile things are looking OK in places like Australia and parts of Asia where they went for a zero case approach.

MyGirlDaisy · 19/12/2020 20:43

Think it’s a combination of things. We are in tier 4, all four of us have either been working from home, working outside on their own, or back from uni following a negative test. Haven’t been in a shop for two weeks, all shopping delivered or click and collect, all of us literally isolating so my elderly parents also in tier 4 and less than a mile away could have Christmas with us, but now, no. Gutted, as are they. Although one of us is driving one parent for their vaccine this week. My other parent cannot have the vaccine because of a history of anaphylactic reactions. I see other people carrying on as if there is no virus - feeling completely pissed off!

Crazycatlady83 · 19/12/2020 20:44

Yes, because the “rulez” stop the highly contagious virus from spreading.....

Mum2jenny · 19/12/2020 20:45

I hope most ppl will carry on with their original plans as this government can’t tell their arse from their elbow.

Their mistake was telling ppl there was the 5 day window far too early so everyone thought it was guaranteed. Absolute muppets. Then they change the goalposts after everyone has booked travel, food, accommodation etc.

Just go with your plans and worry about the certain lockdown scheduled for early to mid January 2021.

CreepyCreepster · 19/12/2020 20:46

Oh just fucking shut the fuck up

It's schools, that's what's driving it

sashagabadon · 19/12/2020 20:47

@onedayinthefuture

Quite a few world leaders have caught it now. Macron the latest.
ElephantWhaleRabbit · 19/12/2020 20:47

The idea that Covid is spread around by rampant rule breaking is a comforting but it’s also total bollocks. It’s popular because it implies it could all be sorted by people just behaving themselves; it’s more palatable than the reality - i.e. that it’s spread around by people doing entirely lawful things - going to work, going to school, going to the shop, living / working in a care home.

EduardoStobarto · 19/12/2020 20:49

@cardibach

Sadly not, we were planning on spending a few days with my MIL as she lives alone but we are 400 miles away and she is not dependant on us for care so we cannot travel over the border. Just need to now do a huge xmas shop as our plans have changed, what could possibly go wrong 😆
BlueJackel · 19/12/2020 20:49

I'm sorry but I am sick to death of the blame being put on schools.

I work in a school in the Midlands we receive a weekly notice from the council telling us how many cases we have in schools across the borough.

This week the case numbers are 16 pupils and 6 staff in primary schools and 17 pupils and 8 staff in secondary schools and further education colleges.

Our general population has 374 new cases this week.

We are a tier 3 area.

It is NOT schools driving it around here.

Aroundtheroom · 19/12/2020 20:50

Exactly.

To all the fuckers paying no attention to lockdown rules, no social distancing, not wearing masks, not getting tests when you have a temperature/cough: you are utter scum, you know who you are.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 19/12/2020 20:51

During November lockdown DCs friends were going to each other's houses, having sleepovers and birthday parties. I was mocked by another parent for being a goodie two shoes for not allowing DD to go to her DDs birthday sleepover with 5 other girls some from different schools. The last few weeks I know people have been meeting indoors in pubs and restaurants no questions asked, some having work Christmas drinks under the guise of a 'business meeting' thinking they are being so clever when actually the more people that bend the rules just ruins everything for all of us.
