I’m so fed up now. This is probably the least Xmasy I have felt since the one after my mum died (she died on the 29th December 2009).

I feel like it’s all being dangled in front of us then snatched away again. Iv just seen they have cut it down to one day only that you are allowed to mix. Like wtf?! It’s 6 days before Christmas!

OP posts:
Peasbewithyou · 19/12/2020 16:27

Well for 38 million of us we are now not allowed to mix at all... Hmm

I do understand why they needed to do this but I am a bit gutted all the same.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/12/2020 16:27

Just continue with your plans as normal. Boris is a clown.

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 19/12/2020 16:28

It’s ridiculous!!!

And now they are saying there’s a different strain?? Hello covid-20.

How many people will be left alone now over Xmas with no food or anything because they had other plans?!

OP posts:
SomewhereEast · 19/12/2020 16:29

I can't wait till the fucking glorious day when we haven't got a new press conference announcement shitting all over our lives.

ilovesooty · 19/12/2020 16:30

If it's necessary, it's necessary. There is evidently a more serious risk with the new mutation and transmission.

ilovesooty · 19/12/2020 16:31

Why would anyone have no food or anything ?

OublietteBravo · 19/12/2020 16:31

It was ridiculous to announce the Christmas bubbles a month in advance.

DioneTheDiabolist · 19/12/2020 16:32

Yeah it's shit but the government have to respond quickly OP.

madcatladyforever · 19/12/2020 16:32

I think it is necessary my NHS colleagues are falling like flies, none of us were affected last time. I'm just waiting for my own downfall, I've been lucky so far.
However I think it was very wrong to allow christmas then snatch it away at the last moment. It should have been cancelled from the beginning. It was obvious nobody would be sensible, the streets are packed, everyone is going mad.
I drove through town yesterday on my way to the hospital and it was wall to wall shoppers, shops were crammed.

UnwantedOpinionBelow · 19/12/2020 16:33

It's upsetting but necessary. It's foregoing one day to save lives.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/12/2020 16:33

Why would anyone be left with bo food Hmm the shops are still open.

Delatron · 19/12/2020 16:35

The government were stupid to make a call on Christmas on the 24th November

GCAcademic · 19/12/2020 16:36

@OublietteBravo

It was ridiculous to announce the Christmas bubbles a month in advance.
Exactly. Another fuck up from the government because populist Boris was so desperate to "save Christmas".

This is the first new variant of the virus. There has been a couple already. Viruses always manifest and create nee strains, it's how they survive.
Lifeispassingby · 19/12/2020 16:36

No one is going to starve, there is still 3 whole days before the 23rd (which is when people were expecting to see others) to shop

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/12/2020 16:36

Ridiculous to announce early

Inhuman to announce at the last minute.

Ludicrous to keep changing

Like anyone has anything like control over a virus!

If it has to be done then it has to be done. If it changes again in a couple of days time then so be it. What else can we do?

Pretend we believe it isn't real?

Imagine some plot to invent a new strain to hide the fact the vaccines don't work?

It's shit! It was always going to be different, possibly worse in winter.

But we have vaccines and the current assumption is they will be efficacious against this new strain.

We don't have to borrow trouble, we're bin enough of the real thing already!!!

TheRubyRedshoes · 19/12/2020 16:36

The virus moves and changes and they gather data then present information at the time that happens. The virus doesn't know it's Christmas.

I think the gov could have handled all this far better but honestly they can't help what's happening right now with a new virulent strain...

We all knew winter would be a dreadful time, the virus thrives in the cold.

GCITC · 19/12/2020 16:37

They changed the restrictions for Eid the day before. Its more notice that anyone else has had.

ChasingRainbows19 · 19/12/2020 16:37

Italy have just announced a lockdown, many other countries across Europe have been doing similar all week with some/minimal Christmas mixing allowed.... it’s shocking to do it so close to Christmas but the Christmas relaxation was for too long in the first place.

New strains of covid are known about its not a new thing with any virus for it to mutate but this particular one must be worrying the medical side for this to happen.

ilovesooty · 19/12/2020 16:37

@Delatron

They were, but things have developed since then and there has to be a robust response to that. And I say that as someone who loathes this government.
userxx · 19/12/2020 16:38

@ilovesooty Older people who can't get out to the shops.

Years ago at primary school we had a police man come in to do one of those random talks, he told us about an old lady who was left at home on Xmas day because of a mix up with her kids, the only thing she had in was stale bread and lard, anyway she choked to death on it. Why the fuck would you tell that to little kids!!

Pissedoff1234 · 19/12/2020 16:39

The supermarkets will be rammed and unsafe with all the people who hadn't bought anything as they were going elsewhere. Muppets the lot of them.

Delatron · 19/12/2020 16:40

Yes @ilovesooty that’s why they should have just waited and made the announcement nearer to the time. We know so much can change in a month with this virus it wats has.

Delatron · 19/12/2020 16:40

Always has

Mumof3andlovingit · 19/12/2020 16:40

It’s not ideal and not how we planned to spend Xmas hols, but if it’s needed then i guess I’m glad that these steps have been taken now rather than later when it’s too late and we end up in a far worse position.
