I'm done. We've been isolating ready to see my parents and now we can't.

This is the third time now we've had to cancel plans last min and I'm sick of it! Totally sick of it!

OP posts:

I think just go and see them. How can they possibly police it? I think if you've been isolating in preparation, you need to weigh up if you think the tiny tiny risk outweighs the damage not being able to see family will do to your mental health

dons hardhat

SomewhereEast · 19/12/2020 16:31

If you've been strictly isolating anyway I'm unclear as to how even Magic Super Covid is going to have reached you.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 19/12/2020 16:32

Not sure it helps, but Im pretty sure they said it's OK on the Xmas Day?

PolkadotGiraffe · 19/12/2020 16:34

Same. We'll have been isolating for two weeks by Christmas so that we can see family safely. They are ruining everything when our family's plans pose an infinitesimal risk to us or anyone else, we made sure we planned it that way.

ImNotCutOutForThis · 19/12/2020 16:34

Still ll do it. I would. Fucked off with it all.

This doesn't really help people who do not live locally to their family.
DollyParton2 · 19/12/2020 16:35

I’m still spending Christmas Day with my family - Tier 4.

OohImBlindedByTheLights · 19/12/2020 16:35

🤦🏻‍♀️

tigerbear · 19/12/2020 16:35

@DollyParton2 how??

Leanandmean31 · 19/12/2020 16:36

I’m not going to let this stop me visit my family. I don’t care anymore. Sorry, nothing you can say will change my mind. This is a complete joke. The fact that collective worship is still allowed in Tier 4 shows that these rules aren’t really grounded in science.

Not if you are in tier 4 like over half of the English population.

I agree. I'll hard hat with you.

They don’t have police on every street corner

tigerbear · 19/12/2020 16:38

@Leanandmean31 agree with you regarding allowing collective worship - WTF??

Ted27 · 19/12/2020 16:38

Christmas day only isnt much help if your family live 150 miles away and you don’t have transport

Apart from a few days in the summer, I’ve been on my own with a 16 year old autistic teenager since March

Exactly one year today since we have seen most of our family.

DollyParton2 · 19/12/2020 16:38

tigerbear errrr I’ll get in my car and drive there- understand?

Not if you're now in tier 4
BinkyBoinky · 19/12/2020 16:39

I'm confused. He said if you're visiting family members who are in danger of loneliness then that is OK.??

I'm in tier 4 and so is my mum who in her 80s. I have been isolating and working from home for weeks. She has been looking forward to Christmas for weeks and now will be alone? I also don't have a car so I can't go "just for the day" as there will be no transport.

So what do i do?

MandosHatHair · 19/12/2020 16:39

I'm very tempted to break the rules, I have no local family. We have been living for this visit, sounds dramatic but we have and so have my PIL.

RosaBaby2 · 19/12/2020 16:40

Just go!

Illy605 · 19/12/2020 16:40

I’m absolutely gutted. The 5 day travel allowance meant I could drive up to Scotland to visit my mum who I haven’t seen since March. I’m three months pregnant and was going to get to announce this to her, in person. I know there’s people far worse off but it just feels like a kick in the teeth, it’s all I’ve been looking forward to for weeks!

OohImBlindedByTheLights · 19/12/2020 16:40

To quote the title of this thread, I'm fucking done with folk not following the restrictions in place. Yes it's shit, yes it's bad timing, but how would you feel if someone in your family died because you passed on covid over Christmas dinner? What's more important, Christmas dinner or your families health?

tigerbear · 19/12/2020 16:40

@DollyParton2 Righto, fair enough if you want to break the rules, but if everyone did it, then what’s the point?
My PIL’s are housebound and nearly 90, and we’d love to see them, so why are you so special that you’re breaking the rules?

RealityNotEssentialism · 19/12/2020 16:41
@Leanandmean31 agree with you regarding allowing collective worship - WTF??
Exactly. How the hell is that allowed (lots of random people congregating indoors) but people who have self-isolated before going to see relatives can’t mix?

I can’t help feeling that the more people go “oh fuck it” and do what they want, the longer this whole fiasco is going to go on for.
