I'm done. We've been isolating ready to see my parents and now we can't.

This is the third time now we've had to cancel plans last min and I'm sick of it! Totally sick of it!

OP posts:

Somebody wrote a comment on another website saying that the government’s behavioural psychologist department have played a blinder on the public. It’s certainly making me think.

I am though deeply concerned with how many more people’s livelihoods, mental health etc has been destroyed now and am worried that the already excess suicide rate with get even higher.
For many this will be the last straw.

PhoebeSnow · 19/12/2020 17:17

@Illy605

I’m absolutely gutted. The 5 day travel allowance meant I could drive up to Scotland to visit my mum who I haven’t seen since March. I’m three months pregnant and was going to get to announce this to her, in person. I know there’s people far worse off but it just feels like a kick in the teeth, it’s all I’ve been looking forward to for weeks!
Go and see your mum. She will be happy to hear your lovely news.
Pulling · 19/12/2020 17:18

Just go anyway OP. I honestly don't care anymore. I really don't. I've been following the rules, I've tried. But I'm just making my own judgement calls now. I'm past it.

It's selfish, I know. No one needs to tell me I'm disgusting or vile or whatever. I really don't give a fuck anymore.

Kjc39 · 19/12/2020 17:18

Tiger bear if your PIL’s are nearly 90 this could potentially be their last Christmas anyway. Nobody knows when it will be their last Christmas. Make the most of the time you have left!

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 17:18

It doesn’t reduce the numbers. I think it makes the numbers worse

I agree. It’s like a champagne cork, the bottled up demand has to go somewhere. It’s an extremely unnatural way to live and expecting us to comply as a semi regular way of life is bound to fail.

I am waiting for the police to announce they aren’t getting involved
Me too. My son is coming here -this gvt is giving hitherto law-abiding people (I have never had so much a a speeding fine) a contempt for the law.

PhoebeSnow · 19/12/2020 17:19

@BinkyBoinky

I'm confused. He said if you're visiting family members who are in danger of loneliness then that is OK.??

I'm in tier 4 and so is my mum who in her 80s. I have been isolating and working from home for weeks. She has been looking forward to Christmas for weeks and now will be alone? I also don't have a car so I can't go "just for the day" as there will be no transport.

So what do i do?

Is there anyway you can go there earlier than you planned?
myneighboursarerude · 19/12/2020 17:20

@JinglingHellsBells

THIS lockdown is to create a pause by which time more people will be vaccinated. We are almost there, with older people being vaccinated now,

Just suck it up and in a few weeks things will be better.

Brexit is coming in a fortnight.

We will not be able to get hold of the vaccine after that if we get a no deal. If we can it’s at a hugely inflated cost.

If the info is true the vaccine is mostly redundant against the new strains. This is not ending in a few weeks.

This is why people are on their knees. There is no end to this. Lockdown after lockdown is not working.

They have no fucking clue what they’re doing.

AethelsWhiteGoose · 19/12/2020 17:20

It’s just ONE Christmas, I’ve just lost a much loved family member to covid through no fault of their own (they isolated but had to go to hospital briefly for something else and caught it there). I bloody love Christmas but I don’t want to see my 70+ parents and put them at risk when I can probably see them at Easter once they’ve been vaccinated.

EmmanuelleMakro · 19/12/2020 17:20

@DappledOliveGroves
Completely agree!

southeastdweller · 19/12/2020 17:21

@DappledOliveGroves

We're a nation - a world - of absolute pussies. Pathetic. Did the world fuck up its economies one after the other for the Spanish flu pandemic? 20 million died - mostly young and healthy - and people got on with life.

Just let the fucking virus spread. Don't admit over 80s to hospital and give palliative care to them at home . People need to accept that death is a part of life. My mother is 81, in a care home with dementia. Is it a tragedy if she - or the other poor bastards in the care home - were to die? Of course not. No-one should ever have to live with dementia and why on earth we don't have euthanasia is beyond me.

Christ - the baby boomer generation have had it all. Roaring post-war economies, employment, massive increase in house prices, final salary pensions. And now they all have to live to 100 or something, and bed block hospitals and bugger up everyone's lives for the sake of the NHS which has been a shower of shite for decades?

The world is over-populated, local authorities can't afford the enormous social care bill for people in care homes and yet people say every death is a tragedy? Bullshit. Have some pragmatism.

Couldn’t agree more. This obsession with saving lives at all costs is so wrong.

I agree. It’s like a champagne cork, the bottled up demand has to go somewhere. It’s an extremely unnatural way to live and expecting us to comply as a semi regular way of life is bound to fail.

We have a new strain that is more easily transmissible. If that gets established further outside london and south east, that will make numbers explode.

We need to hold the cork in until more very vulnerable people are vaccinated and we’re through the peak demand time for the nhs.

It’s shit.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 17:22

THIS lockdown is to create a pause by which time more people will be vaccinated.

And what will the next one be for? And the next one?

People feel they’ve given enough and they can hardly be blamed for that. Living like this over an extended period of time goes against all basic human needs.

People saying lockdown after lockdown isn’t working - your solution is carry on as though there isn’t a pandemic? How do you see that working? Confused

hungarianhybrid · 19/12/2020 17:24

Just go I’m tier 4 and still going to be seeing my family they can’t stop you!!

Cecily42 · 19/12/2020 17:24

I think it’s frightening to see how many people don’t give a fuck and really unfair on those is us who do. The hospitals are full with ambulances queuing outside. Are people not watching the news? 🤦‍♀️

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 17:24

We need to hold the cork in until more very vulnerable people are vaccinated and we’re through the peak demand time for the nhs.

And how long will that take? Who knows.

Can we guarantee the vaccine will make sufficient difference? No we can’t.

Meantime, this will be the last Christmas many people get to see, and that’s nothing to do with Covid.

newlabelwriter · 19/12/2020 17:25

Me too. I’ve just spoken to my dad who was meant to be visiting us for Christmas (he’s tier 2) and now that’s not happening. He’s on how own. I feel utterly broken.

Baileysforchristmas · 19/12/2020 17:25

And still people are coming into the country from all over the world, not isolating when they get here. I wouldn’t be surprised if this strain has come from Europe.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 19/12/2020 17:26

A reminder that Kier Starmer was chastised and accused of wanting to cancel Christmas by Boris Johnson at PMQs when he recommended that the government reconsider its 5 day Tier 0 Christmas. I think Larry the cat knew that this was a monumentally foolish idea as even coming out of November lockdown the numbers were still high. It would have been far better to lower people's expectations weeks ago so they could have adjusted plans rather than dash them at the last minute. But hey ho captain U Turn strikes again. Remember people voted for this shower of incompetents with a huge majority Sad

VulvaPerson · 19/12/2020 17:27

@PeppaPigMakesMeGrrrrr

Urgh. This is why this shit is going on so long. Too many people thinking 'fuck it, I'll do what I want'. Selfish gits.
Or, because we kept schools and such open, so obviously the virus is at high levels anyway! Of course.
OverTheRainbow88 · 19/12/2020 17:27

@BinkyBoinky

If she lives alone I assume you could form a bubble?

ComDummings · 19/12/2020 17:27

Honestly I think those people are the ones who have given a fuck and followed the rules but are at the end of their tether and are now finally all out of fucks to give. I can’t blame them. I’ve felt like that a few times.
