I'm done. We've been isolating ready to see my parents and now we can't.

This is the third time now we've had to cancel plans last min and I'm sick of it! Totally sick of it!

The Brexit revenge.

"I wonder if the government will do a u-turn and say we can mix over Xmas if we close schools for a couple of weeks because they are already doing remote learning for the first week so maybe this is their plan."

No way. There’s absolutely no sign of that happening. I haven’t seen anyone even hint at that.

What makes you think that’s a possibility?

Well that is exactly what is happening in Scotland, of course its a possibility. Mixing on Christmas day, entire country being put into tier 4 on boxing day and schools closed until the 18th Jan.

RealityNotEssentialism · 21/12/2020 07:45

Can you stop being so FUCKING SELFISH for the sake of a god Damn Christmas dinner or we will never be rid of this

This is really not true. The reason for locking down is NOT that the virus will go away but to ease pressure on the health service by reducing the number of infections at a given time. It won’t go away now as it’s too widespread. It will still be there when the lockdown is over.

Bromeliad · 21/12/2020 08:09

@Oliversmumsarmy as this link explains https://datadictionary.nhs.uk/nhsbusinessdefinitions/middlelayersuperoutputarea.html the minimum population for an MSOA is 5000. So plenty of people to have the virus. I live rurally and my MSOA covers 3 villages.

I don't think the poster is calling people selfish for their feelings but for their actions, and suicide rates are no higher this year than any other year so stop spreading lies

Yes we know mental health is taking a hit, and we also know that an NHS collapse will make things worse

cbt944 · 21/12/2020 08:33

It will still be there when the lockdown is over.

Well, yes, but the potential exponential growth will be greatly lessened, one hopes.

As soon as you lessen the restrictions, it will spread. We had a lockdown a few weeks ago, remember? Now the virus is as bad as it’s ever been. I get the impression that some people believe that doing a lockdown now will mean we will be free of the virus sooner, which isn’t the case.
cbt944 · 21/12/2020 08:39

This is old but explains things better than I can muster the energy to try to re exponential growth. Cheery title! Still stands true.

There's no known data on suicides for this year (after March) so please shut up with your misinformation.
midgebabe · 21/12/2020 09:11

The ons have released data each quarter, so shut up with your scaremongering nonsense

And as a simple experiment look at the death rate charts released each Tuesday where the excess death that has been caused by COVID is clear and there are not enough excess deaths for suicide to be having any impact on excess deaths

But let me guess, you have not known any covid deaths and 3 suicides?
Making you unusual. Let me explain, it's not all about you. It's about the country as a whole

milveycrohn · 21/12/2020 09:11

're mental health.
Everybody feels things differently according to personal circumstances and their own resilience to different circumstances.
My mental health has suffered dreadfully since the rule changes announced on Saturday. We went from Tier 2 (Tuesday), to Tier 3 (Wednesday), and the new Tier 4 (Sunday). After last week, when the PM said in parliament that he did not intend to have more restrictions over Xmas, to suddenly cannot mix at all.
I feel so upset that I cannot eat. Family members gave made plans, bought food and drink, decorations etc, based on this, which will now not be eaten. Presents not given.
Of course, in our house, we'll be eating sausages, as that's all we have and I can't face the shops anymore
We have abided by the rules since last March. Told lockdown November to save Christmas etc.
The goal posts keep moving.

Didn't we discuss this the other night? There is no published data yet. What part of that don't you understand?

Yeah, you're wrong.

Beano78 · 21/12/2020 09:48

At the end of the day, the rules make no sense. And this is the problem that is making people ignore them. This virus is not going away. Ever. But I understand that we need to slow it's spread to enable the hospitals to function, until we can get the vaccine out to those who need it most. But for me, the rules are crazy. Teachers are allowed to work in bubbles of 30+ households, 5 days a week for the foreseeable future. People can go to work. Depending on the area you live in, shops are open, restaurants are open, leisure centres are open, public transport is running, places of worship are open......the list goes on. Yet we are now told we either can't see our family, or we can only see them for one day. It's crazy!

Danllama · 21/12/2020 10:20

@m0therofdragons

It’s so depressing reading how many people on these threads want to ignore them rules. Do any of you work in a hospital? I very much doubt anyone dealing with the reality would advocate breaking the rules. Last week we had to send out a plea to clinicians to come into work on their off days because the hospital wasn’t safe to run on the number of staff we had. This is serious stuff.
Hospital understaffing is not the public's responsibility and we shouldn't have to suffer for it. I won't suffer for it. NHS has been mismanaged for decades and it's about time we confronted that elephant!
Coldwinterahead1 · 21/12/2020 10:29

I thought I was doing ok until I just read that we will all be in tier 4 lockdown until AT LEAST Easter 😩 fucking marvellous

TheGremlinsAreComing · 21/12/2020 11:02

Why are some posters talking like lockdown is the answer? Like the other lockdowns worked so well. The moment we loosen restrictions the virus spreads again. Nothing changes. Earlier this year we were locking down to save the nhs. To build nightingale hospitals. To give us time to understand the virus better and come up with a vaccine. That's all been done now (caveat only a proper cash injection would save the nhs not hands face space btw).

The nightingales sit empty.

Only over 80s and nhs staff/care workers get the vaccine.

So if only the demographic j mentioned above really need the vaccine it's clear the rest of us (with some exceptions), should be allowed to GET THE FUCK ON WITH OUR LIVES.

Everything the government wanted from us in order to do what they needed to do, we did. And suddenly we're in lockdown AGAIN. What's the reasoning this time? Ooh yes a new strain.,There has been quite a few new strains since this started, why are they making a fuss of this one when they didn't make a fuss of the others?

It's no longer about saving lives or even the nhs, it's about seeing how much control they can exert over us, especially with brexit looming. And no, I'm not a covid denier, but I do have a shred of common fucking sense.

Good luck with that when so many have swallowed the "Save the NHS" narrative wholesale; do you really think it'll be possible to challenge the rotten aspects of it, now they're hiding behind the "heroes" thing?

Off topic I know, but it reminds me of the endless begging for subs for schools "to save the kids' education", all to cover up for profound mismanagement and all while preferred personnel keep their place at the trough

Dongdingdong · 21/12/2020 11:24

We have isolated for a week and a half, not gone out except for walks and the children have missed out on sports, play dates and fun. Only because we wanted to safely be able to see the grandparents who live in a house with a garden about 2 hours away. We were planning to stay the entire allowed time.

That is now cancelled and I am dreading telling the children and try to see what kind of a Christmas I can make for the five of us in a tiny flat. We have no food as we ordered a huge online shop to the grandparents.

@MothExterminator if you’ve been isolating for two weeks before Christmas then you don’t have Covid. The risk to your family is infinitesimal. In your situation I would just break the rules and go.

Dongdingdong · 21/12/2020 11:25

Agree. Some NHS workers are heroes but some are most certainly not.

midgebabe · 21/12/2020 12:02

GET ON WITH OUR LIVES

Yes we would ALL like to do that. Unfortunately that isn't possible
Unless you can explain how it would work

Let's just take one aspect
In March the french said they would stop supplies coming in if we didn't lockdown .
They have pretty much done that now , again because of our lack of control of the virus
How normal would your life feel if the deliveries were stopped long term ?

Another aspect
Your dearest child breaks a leg. However because everyone has gone back to normal, the NHS has buckled, no beds, even worse staff shortages because more will be ill simultaneously
The child can't get hospital treatment, it goes septic and they die
How normal would that feel ?

I can see that the lockdowns just surpress the virus. Until the Spring we are struggling. However I agree with some PP. The NHS has some serious issues with their management. Some people wont hear a word against it and it will be a brave government who tackles that one.

The mismanagement is a disgrace. I used to work for a large supplier to health authorities. Lots of little cottage industries taking as long as they can to make a decision even when there are clear cost savings. Meetings about very little and then another meeting with a cast of 1000's all the while bleating they are looking for cost savings.

We are sick to Fucking death of people like you!

What people do is nobody's fucking business but their own. People are autonomous, always have been, always will be. Wind your fucking necks in you plebs.
